There is one thing that I’d recommend doing to level up your setup: get rollerblade wheels for your chair. I replaced my regular casters with these chair wheels and my chair moves like a dream. It’ll go so well with your wooden floors. Also works well with carpet. Highly recommend them!

They make rollers specifically hardwood floors. They are a VERY soft rubber. I have used them before on hardwood floors and they work well.

I think I recommend this in every thread but get you some roller blade chair wheels. I have them on my desk chair and they are so luxurious. Moves silently and no chair pad needed.

That chair needs new wheels. You can buy them on Amazon. Get the ones that look like expensive roller blade wheels. This is not a criticism. It’s a well done setup but trust me on the new wheels it’s an amazing change. I decided to grab the link after writing my post:

Just buy yourself some rollerblade style wheels for the chair. They roll around easily on carpet and then you don't need the shitty mats or the vinal floor.

Not sure if this would be the best place to ask but as far as not destroying newly laid high pile carpet should I consider getting a chair mat or could I get by replacing the wheels of my chair with something like these?

But as answer to your question, yes it slows it down but mainly because I’ve a buttkicker installed on the chair and so not to disturb my downstair neighbour i’ve put ~1inch thick sound damper foam pad below the rug.

Do yourself a favor and buy a set if rollerblade rubber wheels for your herman miller .. it's quite, smooth and doesn't scratch the floor over time
