I wouldn't lock it up, but if I did I was looking at a alarm add on like this https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Anti-Theft-Vibration-Motorcycle-Waterproof/dp/B0734QN8KR/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Mengshen+Bicycle+Alarm&qid=1594161290&sr=8-1

If someone moves it the alarm will go off.

For accessories if you plan to ride at night get a better light, the built in one is really not that great.

Also keep your tires PSI high. Max is 55, you should have it around 50.

This is the one I got. It’s loud and very sensitive to vibrations and affordable. I hide it under the bike seat so it’s not apparent where it is and where the sound is coming from. A must have! I also use a strong lock.

Sorry to hear this, I just went through this myself. It's incredibly frustrating. I was lucky to have comprehensive coverage on mine, so insurance replaced the stolen cat. The repair shop said they'd seen 4 Elements with stolen cats in my area in the last month or two, so I'm keeping the coverage in place.

Anything you can do to make it harder to get under there is a good idea. Or to make it take more louder and more time consuming to cut it out. In addition to potential bolt cage or cat protector, maybe consider what I did. I mounted a motion sensing motorcycle alarm underneath the car. It can be armed/disarmed via a fob and sensitivity can be set very high.

My hope is that if someone crawls under there to cut it, they won't be able to stand the 113 decibels in their ears for long enough to cut it. Or it will notify my neighbors and scare them off. The more difficult you can make it for them to remove it while mounted, the longer it'll be making noise.

Please don't straight pipe it, we gotta breathe this air, man.

yay glad it was found!

  • sounds like damages (clutch, repaint, locks) are going to be significant repairs. Make sure to speak to a Lawyer consider a civil lawsuit something on paper whether for future insurance, directly against scumbag tweaker or parents or trailerpark, seems good idea and diligence on your part.

  • I also suggest installing a cheap wifi or trail camera wherever bike stored overnight. or a simple Vibration alarm https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Anti-Theft-Vibration-Motorcycle-Waterproof/dp/B0734QN8KR wouldve 100% deterred any late night theft?

I got one of THESE to put on my trailer, I imagine you could put them all over the property. They are motion sensitive, and STUPID loud.

I used to be the kind of person who steals things, and if that went off while I was taking something, I would sprint away. The entire neighborhood, and every dog, will get woken up.

It beeps really loud of you touch anything it's attached to, then if touched again, it starts wailing.

Also, bright, motion sensitive lights, in locations that are hard to reach.

yep - if they want it not many locks will suffice. one thing worth getting is this...make sure you put it somewhere on the bike they can't quickly get to (under the seat?) https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Anti-Theft-Vibration-Motorcycle-Waterproof/dp/B0734QN8KR/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=MOTION+ALARM+FOR+BIKES&qid=1600002144&sr=8-1

17 dollars will get you one of these motion alarms. You can adjust the sensitivity. It'll let out a warning first time it's bumped and then sounds a very loud alarm if it keeps going. I put one under my seat, they're quite small. Batteries still going after 4 months

You can buy a motion detection alarm for $13. It's made for a bike but you can stick it to anything. It's SUPER LOUD and has a remote control to turn it on and off.

I'd get yourself a cover for your bikes-- ya can't steal what ya can't see.

I parked a motorcycle on the street for a few years and this was always the advice I saw to prevent theft. I've always felt wayyy better with my MC being out of view.

Look into one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Anti-Theft-Vibration-Motorcycle-Waterproof/dp/B0734QN8KR/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=bicycle+alarm&qid=1599678767&sr=8-3

I use something like that on my motorcycle when traveling and when traveling internationally (works as a door alarm and a bag alarm)

I carry a U-lock and also picked up this little gadget:

Wsdcam 113dB Wireless Anti-Theft... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0734QN8KR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I ziptied it under my trunk bag on my rear rack. It's lightweight, hidden, never in my way, rainproof, $15 & easy to install. The sensitivity is high enough that it'll go off if I grab my water bottle. Definitely one of the best things I've bought in recent memory

Alot of people in the super 73 community recommend these products and for even more security you could buy a small tracking device for it too.

Side note any of the Kryptonite locks work thats just an example.

I do many of the same things as others have mentioned here. Here is my setup: https://imgur.com/a/3LVJRS0 It's not meant to survive thugs with heavy cutters and such, but will deter folks without tools enough to keep them away. I try to leave the trailer at the track, as they generally (not always) have security or others around who won't mess with your stuff.

Another option (something I'd like to get) is a simple motion alarm. Something like this (from a quick Amazon search) https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Anti-Theft-Vibration-Motorcycle-Waterproof/dp/B0734QN8KR/ref=sr_1_2 I would say, wrapping the trailer in a heavy tarp, hooking it all up, locking it and putting the motion alarm on it should be fine in a decent part of town. At the hotel, if you pack your stuff wisely, you can always get a dolly and cart your expensive tool box/gear into the hotel room instead of leaving it out. Takes a bit of extra time/planning, but gives peace of mind.

Extra locks around the wheels and hitch are a good idea, as well.

Put bike/motorcycle anti-theft alarm on your battery or hood. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Anti-Theft-Vibration-Motorcycle-Waterproof/dp/B0734QN8KR

Just make sure it is not close to the engine (heat might destroy it)

It's very easy to assemble if you've ever done maintenance on a bicycle.

If you're going to ride it in the street, I recommend getting at least a mirror covering the left side (if you're in the US or Canada or contl Europe). Mine goes a solid 25mph but I still get passed all the time and it's easier and safer to use a mirror than twist around to look behind you.

To deter theft I got the heaviest duty chain and u lock from kryptonite and this alarm off amazon which I cannot recommend enough: https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Anti-Theft-Vibration-Motorcycle-Waterproof/dp/B0734QN8KR. It's so cheap but it beeps loudly twice if anyone moves your bike. If they continue to move it, it launches into a full, loud car alarm pattern. I installed mine under the seat.

When researching, i found that they can be picked much easier as well as cut. The link above claims it can't be cut, drilled, picked, etc. I really don't know for sure but I do like the lock and reviews are all solid. I also bought a theft alarm for my z-1 that also makes me more comfortable with leaving it outside for short periods of time (never over night). Security system link below:

Tip - I got a $14 alarm on Amazon and mounted it to my e-bike as a little extra deterrent when I need to park and lock it up for a few minutes (e.g. quick run into a grocery store).

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0734QN8KR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I try not to ever leave my ebike locked up for long, but when I do need to leave it locked up I feel a little better knowing that if anyone tries to mess with it, I'll hear the loud alarm to alert me (and others!)

I've got the 2018 version and I love it. The first thing I did was buy a top-case for it. Most people recommend either a Shad or a Givi case, them being more expensive but definitely worth the cost. I went with a 39 liter Givi case and it fits my full-face modular helmet with ease. I could got the helmet under the seat but it's tight and I wanted the extra storage space anyway.

They run about $160 but you'll never have s problem with them. There is a catch though. If you want a top-case you have to buy a top-case mount that is not included with cases. It's two pieces of metal, one of which you can see in this picture. It connects right under the two passenger hand rails and runs up under the mounting plate that's under the case.

They're bike specific so you need to buy the one that fits your SMax. This one It kinda sucks it's so expensive but I don't think there's a way around it. So with tax, all told, it's like a $275 upgrade. I use it every ride though so it was worth it to me.

The second thing I bought was an alarm. It works great, I just zip tied it to my left handle bar, doesn't look out of place. It's one of 2 security measures I use.

The last thing I bought was this cover. Awesome, awesome cover. It doesn't really show it in the pictures but it's designed for a top case, and fits over it perfectly. In the rear view shot on that Amazon page the bike doesn't have a case and the cover is kinda lose. With a case it's perfect. It's night so I don't want l wanna take pictures but I could tomorrow if you want. It's a great cover.

The cover is my second security device because I truly believe people are less likely to fuck with a bike under a cover. And if they do decide to lift it up, the alarm starts going off and they bail. I came out one day to find my cover half pulled up and I believe that was a successful defence.

Also, make sure to change the oil at 600 miles and check your valves at 2k. All I got for now.

Awesome scooter!
