I currently have two drives. One is a 117GB Drive that has windows on it (not enough room for anything else). I'm guessing that's the M.2?

The other is a 1TB Drive that I assumed was a standard HDD (moving parts?) where I have games installed.

I believe my computer has or two expansion slots for more M2 drives. I'm picturing they look like this physically.

I'm mainly playing World Of Warcaft and though not super demanding, does have slow load times with my current setup.

Congratulations on your first build. I'll just ask some questions you may want to ask yourself when you building PCs.

Just looking at your chosen CPU,

Why the z490-e over the z490-a? Do you plan to get a 2nd 3070 and SLI? Do you need wireless LAN already on the mobo versus get an extension card? There might be some other smaller details that the 'e' has 'a', but the 'a' is $30 cheaper. For a 10600k, I'd also consider getting a ~$200 mobo such as Gigabyte Z490 VISION G, Gigabyte Z490 AORUS ELITE, MSI MAG Z490 TOMAHAWK, Asus TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS (WI-FI), or the Asus TUF Gaming without wifi for about $20 cheaper. Also, stay away from ASRock boards. They're not doing so hot right now in quality.

If you stick with the z490-e, then I believe it is quad channel. May want to double check. If not, then get 2x16. If you switch to another board, then check if it is quad channel or dual channel.

Why Corsair MP510 960? Western Digital 1TB WD_Black SN750 is, I believe, more recent, better overall performance and endurance, and about $50 cheaper right now because of deals. Other brands to look at would be ADATA, Crucial, Sabrent and SK hynix.

Why a single red NAS hard drive? These drives are ideal for storage especially Network Attached Storage and when multiple are working together, usually in some RAID configuration. You may me be better suited with A) 1 TB 2.5" SSD, B) 2-4 TB Western Digital Black (these are performance brand if you need to install additional games but not on your NVME) HDD, or a C) 1-6 TB Western Digital Blue (these are basic but sufficient for extra storage) HDD. You may also want to look at Seagate, ADATA, Crucial, Kingston, and Sandisk.

That's just a few thoughts.

It shouldn't get that hot tbh. If you really want you can stick a thermal pad on there. But that's not necessary

It may even come with the screw. But even double sided tape is sufficient. As there are no moving parts. That's what's so great about ssds. I'm sure you know of the tape memes by now lol.

I'm not sure if heat sinks are absolutely necessary but you can get them through the link above for $10 extra on the 500GB drive or $20 extra for the 1TB drive.

thank you! I don't know anything about motherboards but whether it is the B450 or the x570, it seems to be sold out everywhere besides very high marked up prices on amazon. Do you know roughly how long I can expect to be able to find one through best buy or newegg?

If you want two nvme drives, you should look at x570 boards. Asus has a good lineup this gen.
