$18, actually

This is the one I used. There are a few different options like I believe one comes with clips that actually go inside the joycons and fixes broken ones but I just swapped out the sticks entirely.

The thing is Nintendo doesnt actually care about your problems. I'd recommend swapping out the thumb sticks yourself. It's pretty easy just look up tutorial on youtube and here is a link to a stick I used to swap mine out https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MRJ12HX/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_MZ-BEb3V2K229

You can replace the sticks yourself (2pc for $15):

I replaced my left 2017 one a year ago and it has been great since. I'd rather pay $10 than $80

I just repaired mine with this kit from Amazon ($15 USD for 2 joysticks)

It’s not too hard to do and this tutorial made it easier for me

[Amazon/US] 2-pack Joy-Con joystick replacements, includes tools - $13.49 (Lightning Deal, 150 minutes remaining)

This one has both sticks, it did the trick for me. Was a little frustrating to take everything apart and put it back together but it was worth.

I bought a kit like this one : https://www.amazon.com/Veanic-2-Pack-Replacement-Joystick-Controller/dp/B07MRJ12HX/ref=sr_1_3?crid=22XQXQGLYF6MO&dchild=1&keywords=joycon+joystick+replacement&qid=1591997457&sprefix=joycon+%2Caps%2C301&sr=8-3

If you decide to fix the joycons yourself, I ordered this kit from Amazon and watched a video to assist with the process. I’m not a DIY kind of person at all, but this was very easy to do. I replaced mine and my son’s control stick in ~45 minutes, and I took my time with it.
As for your 2nd question, I don’t have a definitive answer, but make an account on Deku Deals and keep checking there for sales. I go on pretty much daily to see if anything on my wishlist is on sale.

Just so you know this "fix" is just temporary if you want a more permanent solution

I bought the repair kits off Amazon for like $10 each and repaired 6 of my joycons for less than the price of new joycons.
If you don't have any of the tools- https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07MRJ12HX?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Oh! Good news they make a repair kit for $15. I have personally used this to fix the left joycon and it worked flawlessly. It comes with the tools needed as well.

I just replaced my left stick and joycon shells last night for the first time, and it took me a while to do it all, but I would estimate the stick replacement to be maybe 10/15 minutes? I have experience with phone/computer repair, but I think if you can follow a YouTube video and be patient, it's worth it. I used these ones from Amazon. Comes with 2.
I've played an hour with the new stick, and it feels great. Obviously too early to tell how long it lasts, but so far so good.

Here's the one I bought several months back. There seems to be a lot of options these days, so dont hesitate to shop around a bit by the off chance there's better prices or qualities around.

I recently bought Veanic 2-pack to replace the thumbsticks because of drifting. They work fine and saved myself money for a new set! Inserting the ribbon back on might be a bit tricky since it's kind of awkward (at least for me) and I recommend watch a youtube video on the repair as well. Takes no longer than 15 minutes!

I replaced the left thumbstick of my original joycons when I did a shell swap a few weeks ago. These are the replacements I ordered from Amazon.
Have you tried recalibrating the new analog thumbstick after installing it?
1 points • ediciusNJ
Yep, the sticks I ordered on Amazon came with the tools, including the screwdrivers I needed. Only $18.99 and took me maybe 30 minutes from start to finish.

My son plays handheld all the time and had the drift issue. So I replaced the joysticks with these for $15. They work great and were easy to install.

Because Nintendo knows its fans are suckers who will not only buy anything, but will lambast anyone who criticizes Nintendo, so they no longer have any incentive to produce quality hardware.
I recommend you pick up a few of these. They only take a couple of minutes to install, and it's much cheaper than buying new Joycons that will only fuck up again.

I don’t remember since it did it around a year ago, but it was fairly easy to follow and find. Plus the sticks on Amazon come really cheap with the needed screwdrivers. I'm not sure on the turn around time since I've only ever repaired mine. Here is a link to the thumbstick kit I have used to repair some and they work great, plus you would have them in by Monday so before the DLC drops. Only snag is if you don't feel comfortable taking it apart and dealing with the ribbon cables. Hopefully it is your left one as I find it to be easier to take apart since it doesn't have the nfc reader or IR camera attached to the main board inside like the right joycon does.

Veanic 2-Pack 3D Replacement... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MRJ12HX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I bought this to replace the thumb stick and then looked up directions on how to remove it properly without damaging the electronics inside. It was a little tedious and a bit stressful but mine has worked great once I fixed it. Also the most cost effective choice in my opinion ($15) for two thumb stick replacement and tools needed
1 points • draculasbacula
Not the easiest way to fix the joycons, but I replaced mine with this. Comes with all the tools and worked great. Going on a year now with no drift.

Gives you everything you need to take them apart and includes extra screws for when you strip out the stock ones. There’s a wikihow with pics how to open up the joycons. Probably some videos on YouTube now a days too.

If you're handy with tools, you can buy joysticks on Amazon. I bought a bundle with 2 for 16$ and repaired myself. YouTube has good tutorials.
The first one only lasted me a couple months, but the second one has lasted me over 6 months now, no issues.

If you’re American, I purchased this kit, and it worked great. Surprisingly simple to fix, coming from someone with zero experience and shaky hands. Putting the little ribbon cables in made me nervous and was the only difficult part but it was easier than I feared it would be.
I only did this a few weeks ago, so I can’t comment on how long these ones last, but they have like 40 hours on them between my wife and I.

If cleaning doesn't work and you're feeling adventurous you can try to replace the joystick using this kit and a good youtube tutorial

Replacements are fairly inexpensive.
There are probably cheaper ones. These are just the ones I was going to get before I just got a new pair for my son.
Edit: in lieu of the recent flood of Rick Rolls, I assure you this is not one of them. SFW Amazon link!

I picked up a couple of replacement joysticks on Amazon, and they were pretty cheap and not too tough to install myself.
Actually I replaced the joysticks in both mine and my wife’s joycons.
The kits I bought came with two new joysticks and all of the tools I needed.

Honestly if you look up joy con repair kits they should pop up. I ordered these but im not sure if they ship to Canada.
1 points • GEORGE_ZIMMERMAN_AMA
This is the one I bought. I tried to do the cleaning thing first, but it’s almost impossible to disassemble and reassemble the joystick housing without breaking the metal tabs and making it useless.
Watch some videos on YouTube and take it slow. The first one will be kind of tricky, but it’s a breeze once you figure out how the ribbon connectors work. Make sure you recalibrate the stick and then reboot your system after installation. Mine is working perfectly now.

I just bought a new set of sticks for $15, since COVID hit just as I was about to send in my controllers and I couldn't bother to wait. A quick YouTube video and 15 minutes later and the things work good as new.
