Amazon sells a 3 pack of plastic “drain zipper”, this barbed style works better than anything I have ever tried. If that’s what you are calling a snake, and it didn’t work, you have to contact the landlord. If not, I suggest trying them before calling the landlord.

Here. Didn’t work for our drain beast though, if someone can point me toward the special forces of drain snakes, I would appreciate it...

As others have said find comparables and bring those to the table. What you don't want to do is start complaining about a clogged drain that you've had for a "long time" and apparently never requested a fix for and a closed gym the the state mandated must be closed. You could ask them "to consider lowering the rent a little since with the expected social distancing incl gym closures continuing for awhile it's no longer available for your use..." But it would still only be a little. Find a comparable size/location/condition/other amenities (is there a doorman) unit without a gym and use that price difference.
Is the clogged drain in the bathroom? Likely hair. Have you tried the Plastic Snake and Drano? If they don't work a clogged drain usually requires one super with a plumbing snake. They are only touching the sink or tub and faucets and need a towel/rags that can get wet/dirty. If you open the front door and bathroom door for them, ask them to wear a mask and then disenfect the bathroom or kitchen whent hey leave you'll be fine.

Make sure you don't have an old drain wookie in there.
I use these things to clean out the shower drains. They work really well, and the results are disgusting.

You can use a drain snake.

These also work a little better https://www.amazon.com/Vastar-Drain-Snake-Remover-Cleaning/dp/B01DP87IF8
Alternatively, I like to use a shop vac. Sometimes doing this can push stuff further down the pipe and cause more problems

Next you’ll need one of these. They’re like magic.

Sounds like a learning experience for your roomie, she got absolutely fleeced by that crooked plumber. That is insanely overpriced...I bought a couple of these plastic duders online, snaked it myself for $5, took me 5 minutes. Drains instantly drained 10X faster.

These are great if you can find a willing friend to help you out. Even if you have to throw some money or food bribery their way, it'll be cheaper than a plumber. Good luck!

I got these from amazon . They’re not the greatest - I used it yesterday and noticed the little spikes were snapping off but I liked that it was a 3 pack so I have 2 more. They seem to get the job done well enough though, and if they don’t get the whole clog out they at least bring it to the drain surface so you can grab it with your fingers

Have you tried something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DP87IF8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_I6zMFbZTDMSA9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I can usually remove wookie level clogs that my wife and daughters leave behind.

or just buy a cheap hair snag tool... why do people make it harder on themselves by inventing nearly useless tools to do a simple/cheap job?!??? lol.

Try this
Btw, if it is hair, this will pull out a plug resembling a wet sock/drowned mouse. Be prepared for that.

These sink snakes are supposed to be good for hair and other small clogs.

A lot less dangerous and no risk of messing up your pipes.

Quite pouring crap down your drains. Don't add chemicals to the water supply. Buy a drain snake. You can get a package of three for about 9 bucks. They last forever and you don't need to buy expensive chemicals.

Everyone with long hair (and just about everyone else) should own at least a set of these little plastic, toothed drain snake things:
https://www.amazon.com/Vastar-Drain-Snake-Remover-Cleaning/dp/B01DP87IF8
You just slide them down the drain, wiggle them around, pull them back out, and then try not to gag when you learn just how much lives in your pipes. The smell can be horrendous as its a mushy goop of rotting skin cells, hair, and dirt, but it's far more effective and less damaging to the pipes than pouring down drain cleaner.

I bought this snake for my clogged shower drain and it worked amazingly well! It’s super easy to use too

This is a p-trap https://i.imgur.com/WP1Ytuv.jpg the b line is pointing at it. It’s purpose is to keep water in the pipe, which stops sewer gases from coming up in the plumbing. It’s also where anything that falls in the drain collects. In 7 years of home ownership I’ve never really had to “clean” one out, but one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DP87IF8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JdXsFb17V4T63 is usually sufficient. If you drop a ring or something down the drain it will likely be in there. Most sinks have joints that make them easy to remove (ie they usually aren’t cemented)
The trap in the picture has a clean out on the bottom, just unscrew the cap and all the gunk falls out.

If you don’t want to put in a work order. I would suggest using a a plastic snake/ hair clog remover. You will want to wear gloves. It can be used over and over.
Something like this this.

In my experience, this is usually due to hair and you can unclog it easily with a $5 thing like this - https://www.amazon.com/Vastar-Drain-Snake-Remover-Cleaning/dp/B01DP87IF8.
