- QUAD HD+ RECORDING: Featuring an entirely new chipset design & Sony sensor to support Quad HD+ recording in 2560 x 1600P / 2560 x 1440P at 30fps to create high quality, vivid and detailed images in various lighting environments.
- SONY 5MP STARVIS SENSOR: Experience the new Sony Starvis 5MP technology with detailed, brighter and crystal-clear images captured in day-or-night time lighting for super clear and consistent night vision.
- MOTION & COLLISION DETECTION: Using the camera's G-Sensor and State-of-the-Art motion detection technology, video footage is now intelligently captured in parking mode when moving objects and/or impacts are detected while the vehicle is parked. Files are flagged as important and protected onto the SD card for review.
- PRE & POST BUFFERED RECORDING: Capture the whole story of the events leading up to and after events or collisions with intelligent recording technology that automatically saves footage both 15-seconds before and 30-seconds after a detected collision and/or event.
- TRUE PARKING MODE: Forget the old and conventional style of parking mode 'frame-by-frame' recording. This camera's video segments are captured in full-continuous clips while the vehicle is parked, rather than strung together 'frame-by-frame'.

Though the dashcam video could save this driver too right? That's the reason I am shopping for one but the choices are overwhelming. Is the A119 V3 still a good choice? I've seen that recommended a lot.

I just got the Viofo A119 v3 and really like it, not too expensive and records in 1600p. The parking option is what I really like, motion detection recording and g sensor where it saves 15 seconds before detection and 30 seconds after so it get everything that happened, not just video of someone driving away.

Anyone know of a good dashcam?? Not too expensive but won't shit out on me.
EDIT: Okay I was just made aware of the recommendations sticky thread. Also seems a lot of people on Reddit like the A119 V3 so that's what I'll probably go with.

Viofo A119.
Bought one each for my wife and myself. Had them about two years, zero issues whatsoever. Highly recommended. Price tag is ~$120.

So you want a 4k front only cam under $200? I would just go with the A119 V3. A lot of the 4k cams on the market actually are not true 4k and their video quality is lackluster. The A119 V3 is 1440p 30fps or 1080p 60 fps and the video looks good too. The video quality is fantastic in the day and great at nigt.

I have this one and don't have complaints. Easy to mount, decent video quality, not too expensive.

If you ever get a dascam might I recommend this. https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-A119-1600P-Camera-Logger/dp/B07SRQH4R7?ref_=ast_sto_dp It has a couple different parking modes. One that senses acceleration changes. Always on. And time lapse. The hardwire kit has a switch on it where you can make it shut off once your battery hits a certain voltage that is adjustable to four different voltages. There is also a version with front and rear cams. Hardwiring it for is super easy. You just need to tap into a fuse that is always on for parking mode, a fuse that is only on when the car is running for the regular dash cam, and a ground.

What kind of dashcams do police cruisers use? Cause they are in major need of an update.
I am planning on getting one myself. Is the A119 v3 still a top contender or should I look into a Garmin or something completely different?

I bought the Viofo A119 V3 after a lot of research and the dashcam sub rating it best $100ish price range. I love it. The amount of cool animal footage that I get is amazing.

Just replaced my previous one with one of the top recommended ones on the dashcam reddit.

I'd say front cams are the way to go. How does the VAVA compare to the A119 V3? The A119 is like one of the most popular cams on reddit at least.

Thanks! The dashcam is a Viofo A119 V3.

Unfortunately most phone apps are gimmicky and the large file size and slow transfer speed don't make them very useable.
For large temp changes you wanna get something with a capacitor instead of battery powered. They hold up much better and don't have the risk of exploding. There are a few morels but the favorite on Reddit is the A119 v3. It's the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Also the goods mount allows it to be quick detach.

This one comes highly recommended, I’ve owned it for a few months and it has performed very well. Make sure to get a high capacity SD card too. Worth the piece of mind.

Get one! I got this one, got some nice footage of Bakersfield action saved.
Honestly, if you're ever in a car accident and it's just your word against theirs, you'll want some video evidence on your side. Unless you're at fault I guess, then forget about the dashcam and let the adjuster figure it out.

The Viofo A119v3 has really good video quality for the money and is just inside of your budget.

I am a huge fan of this dash cam called the viofo a119 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SRQH4R7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_F0jgEbK1NP4VH
If you’re looking for cheaper I also had the Yi dash cam which was $50 and I was very happy with that too. ttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C89GCHU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Q1jgEbDP67PF9

I literally just bought one after reading and watching countless reviews. This was the one that everyone raved about being the best value
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07SRQH4R7?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image
I bought it last week for $91. Seems like the price went back up

yeah that V3 is listed as having a capacitor, it's also listed on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-A119-1600P-Camera-Logger/dp/B07SRQH4R7/ --- skimming a few sites it looks like all V3 units are from VIOFO and have a capacitor. Also, if you find the camera has really bad glare off the windshield, pickup a CPL filter for it. ASIN: B01N0KVD4C

I've never found a triple channel cam. The best I can suggest is buying a dual channel camera and a second camera for the missing third channel.
For example:
- This one for the front and cabin
Even if there are triple channel ones, they are so few that you're really limiting yourself; so you'd best be sure that it overrides any other features.

I used the Viofo A119 V3. But i wire it into the arm rest.

The A119, I believe it's very popular. I spent maybe 15 minutes researching online. Seemed pretty clear cut if you want decent quality. There are of course cheaper cameras.

Go with the A119 V3 with the GPS. It's honestly the most features with the best quality for the price. I've had one for a year now and its been reliable and has made some great videos. Just make sure to get a high endurance Micro SD card which is only a few bucks usually more but lasts longer in dashcams.
You could go cheaper with an Aukey or other brand but I'd definitely buy another A119 when the time comes.

I use SimpleUSBCable 12V to MiniUSB Two-Prong Universal Dashcam Adapter
with a VIOFO A119 V3

Works flawlessly with the powered rearview mirror. There's a few pictures that will help you install this on the Mazda forums.

I got this one because of the back cam. but the back cam was absolute shit.
But now that I notice that one is unavailable, I'd recommend this one. it's the brand I had before and it lasted me ~ 4 years. Pretty good quality.

I'm using these 2 in our jeeps.
VIOFO A119: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SRQH4R7
Pros: Excellent build quality, heat resistant, uses super capacitor, logs gps, i got an anti-glare lens too.
Cons: No app and wifi to transfer videos without removing micro sd card
Roav DashCam: https://www.amazon.com/DashCam-Dashboard-Resolution-NightHawk-Wide-Angle/dp/B07DF8MQX1
Pros: Good build quality, good heat resistance, has an app to download videos without removing microsd card.
Cons: Uses lithium ion battery, build quality issues with older models

If you know how to connect a phone charger, than you can connect a dashcam, it uses the same thing.
I recommend this one: https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-A119-1600P-Camera-Logger/dp/B07SRQH4R7
It has a super capacitor so it can withstand high heats and cold temps and whenever you get in a car crash or turn off your car, it safely saves the files (which most dashcams cant do if they dont have supercapacitors), it is highly rated as well for having good picture quality. Highly recommend it.
If you wanna get a bit more protected, I highly recommend this one: https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-Buffered-G-Sensor-Detection-Recording/dp/B07RXQJ148/
Also recommend you buy this sd card or anything that says "Endurance"
https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Endurance-microSDXC-Adapter-Monitoring/dp/B07NY23WBG
DO NOT CHEAP OUT on these micro SD Cards

I went with one recommended on r/Dashcam. The A119 V3 was reasonably priced and met all of my needs. I highly recommend getting the version with the additional polarizing lens. It made a HUGE difference in my video quality during the glare of the afternoon commute. Also, I picked up this SD card ro minimize overriding.

> Looking on Amazon and most of the cams y'all don't like (like Garmin mini) get great reviews and the cams suggested in the faq get worse reviews, so I'm confused.
Amazon reviews are fake, like 100% fake. The reviews there are so fake fakespot.com - was setup, and fakespot.com only picks out the fakest ones now. Fake reviews, fake people, Amazon.com.
> Want a small, unobtrusive camera to go in front of mirror. Don't care if it has a video screen as long as I can view footage on my phone. Only need when driving, don't care about when parked. Under $100 ideally unless I can get something much better for a little more.
-
B1W ($47-55 USD) - Has wifi/cellphone app, Good video, Good build quality, Lackluster parking mode: Automatic, Not buffered, Requires hardwire kit with low voltage cut off feature to enable parking mode. - No GPS - Cheapest dash cam that I would purchase.
-
A119 v3 ($93-110-120 USD) - Excellent video quality, Good build quality, Buffered parking mode. - VIOFO has surpassed the A119 v2's video quality with their A119 v3, a very impressive feat indeed. Review #1, Review #2
Texas - Might look at Street Guardian.
> Don't care if it has a video screen as long as I can view footage on my phone.
Screens don't matter. WiFi/Cellphone app doesn't really matter either.
Build quality
Video quality
Parking mode
Matters, everything else is a bell and whistle and does not matter.

I have Viofo A119's in all of my vehicles, front and rear. There's a kit to wire them directly, but I just used USB power since it's easier. For the front cameras I was able to use the included USB cable I think in all cases. For rear, I bought some 15 ft USB cables and ran them up to the front to plug into either existing USB ports in the vehicle or a cigarette lighter adapter*. It was surprisingly easy to tuck the cables under the trim so they're not visible at all - plenty of Youtube videos on how to do it.
If it's kosher to leave them mounted and simply unplug, this setup would make it really easy to do every day as you drive up.
*If plugging into the vehicle's port, the entertainment system wanted to put the camera in disk mode, which is not desirable; to prevent this it was easy to make the USB cable into a power-only cable.

I recently picked up the VIOFO A119 V3 2560 x 1600P Quad HD+ Dash Camera with GPS Logger 2020 Edition. It's one of many recommended by /r/dashcam (check their sidebar). You have to pick up a microsd card separately (the A119v3 can take up to a 256GB card), but it otherwise comes with everything you need. I've previously purchased the A119v2.
I'm sure you can find a lot of dashcam install videos, but this one was useful for the 2019+ RAV4s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWO34NCTZeQ. YMMV with a 2017. My Limited trim has the ambient light, so I ran the cable along the passenger door sill and under the seat to a usb connection in the center console. I also ran the cable down the A pillar to the windshield wipers and then back toward the front right vent (unlike in the video) - I didn't want to run the USB cable in a way that might have possibly interfered with the passenger's side airbag (so, at 2:06 in the video, I kept it going along the windshield instead of down like they did and then met back up with their install at 2:46).
I've now installed dashcams in four different vehicles, but the process ends up being pretty much the same and doesn't take much time.
