Yeah apparently a lot of people actually prefer the separate inputs. To me its fine that the ones on the back of the motherboard are separate but I prefer the front panel connector to already be a combined port.

You could pick up one of these to split your headset to both the mic in and audio out. Maybe a little bit more reliable than bluetooth.

Yes. In the back panel, the headphone output and mic input are separate jacks (green and red, respectively)

And yeah, I think a splitter like this should do the trick.

Get a 3.5mm splitter or whatever its called. Two male plugs on the one side, female on the other. Plug the one male plug into your laptop, the other into your controller. Then, connect your headphones to the female plug.

I do this when I play cross platform games with my friends. We talk on Discord while playing. So this way I have the game sounds and the voice chat from discord coming trough my headphones.

This is how the plug looks.

Something like this should do the trick if you dont want to buy another microphone. There are cheaper options I believe, but the idea remains. It takes the 3.5mm plug and separates the headphones and microphone channels into their own plugs.

My guess is your headset has a TRRS plug and you'll need a splitter like this
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Headphone-Splitter-Computer-Smartphone/dp/B073ZDDTH2/
to use both the headphone and mic jacks on your PC.

You need something like this. You can either plug them into your audio ports at the front (this splitter has matching ) or the back (green is for headphones, pink is for microphone)

I'm guessing based on your post that your headphones have a TRRS connector. What you need is a TRRS to TRS/TRS adapter.

Some instruments might be phasing themselves out. I would recommend getting a 3.5mom adapter like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073ZDDTH2/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_rEGlEb1J71M71

Put the adapter between your earphones and your current adapter

You can downvote me If you want but I'm not wrong. I've run Into this problem many times.

Those use a 4 pole/dual purpose 3.5mm jack.

Almost all computers use 3 pole/single purpose jacks.

You need a splitter like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073ZDDTH2/ although note there are a couple standards for these splitters so you need to make sure you get one that is compatible. The one I linked is an example. It may, or may not, be compatible with your exact headphones.

The audio out on your computer probably doesn't take microphone input. Get a splitter like this one off amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073ZDDTH2/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_w19BEbZAM6GHJ

You have headphones with 4 pole 3.5mm connector. that means it has one extra "ring" for the microphone connection. normal pc connectors are for 3pole 3.5mm connectors. You should get a adapter.

If the mic still works and it’s just the USB attachment that doesn’t work, you can just use a splitter. https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Headphone-Splitter-Computer-Smartphone/dp/B073ZDDTH2

You need a splitter that will connect your headset into a audio and mic output. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Headphone-Splitter-Computer-Smartphone/dp/B073ZDDTH2/ref=sr_1_9?crid=1NRXMFTV00RUU&dchild=1&keywords=single+to+double+headphone+jack&qid=1603995034&sprefix=single+to+double+hea%2Caps%2C201&sr=8-9

You might just need a reverse-splitter like this one: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Headphone-Splitter-Computer-Smartphone/dp/B073ZDDTH2, it takes the one plug which has both headphone/microphone on it and splits it into two plugs, one for headphone one for microphone.

This is a nice one that I’ve had for about a year now. I carry it around sometimes and use it when I need to. Just find the right splitter like this where it’s 1 hole to 2 ports but don’t go dirt cheap.

You need an 3.5mm jack splitter. Basically an adapter that plugs into 2 separate ports, one port that is dedicated to mic input and another port that is dedicated to audio output. After the adapter is plugged into the ports, you would plug in your headset plug into the single port provided by the adapter. With these, it usually doesn't matter what plug goes in what port as long as you have the right ports. Here's an example of a splitter you could buy on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Headphone-Splitter-Computer-Smartphone/dp/B073ZDDTH2

I looked up the specs on that and it uses a single 1/8” jack to plug in. That’s a headset jack which combines the mic and headphones into a single connector. PCs usually don’t have headset ports, just separate microphone and speaker ports. You probably need one of THESE to combine your computer’s microphone and speaker ports into a combined headset jack.

I just found out that in English it is called 'Spltter Cable'. In my country we call it Y-cable. You can find it here

  1. Make sure to never plug the line into the front panel. 2. Go to Amazon get a Headset splitter and a usb audio adapter.

If its wired then a simple y cable (I don't think this is the 'normal' style so be careful ordering others): https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Headphone-Splitter-Computer-Smartphone/dp/B073ZDDTH2/

I use a 5.1 surround receiver for my computer audio...that's a high power consumption way of solving the issue as well even if you use a standard stereo receiver instead.

Is your budget firm, or is there some play (around an additional $40-$50) in your current price range? If so, I'd recommend checking out the Creative SoundBlaster G5 for your budget, though you will have to pick up a splitter. If this recommendation doesn't work, please tell me why, as options may be a bit limited.

You're talking about 1 set of earbuds that have an inline mic right? Like these?

AFAIK most 3.5mm jacks are for audio output OR audio input and are labelled accordingly. Phones and some laptops are more likely to support earbuds w inline mics via a single 3.5mm jack but you can get a splitter like this one (no idea if that one's good but this is the kind of thing you'd want I think) to turn your single input/output jack into an output jack and an input jack.

OK, I think I get it.

How about combining some cables?

There is a gotcha lurking though: two standards exist for 4 pole (or "TRRS") connectors: the older OMTP and the newer CTIA (or AHJ). The latter also comes in Apple and regular flavour ;-)

Assuming non-Apple CTIA, you could try something like the following combo:

This is perhaps not as clean as you would have liked and will add weight to your headset. Otherwise you need to DIY some custom cables.

Okay so here is the picture of the two ports used to connect audio and microphone.

https://imgur.com/a/rbRXuDU

Here is the link to the splitter, I purchased.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073ZDDTH2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

When connecting the headset from the 3.5 mm into the two splitters to the two ports, the sound works but the microphone does not.

The input device would have two devices, one saying Realtek Line 5 device and another saying HyperX Cloud Orbit.

Trying both did not enable the microphone to work.

Edit: I have also tried using the two ports near the back attached to the motherboard, and it also did not work.

so it looks like the base puck for the steel-series 7 only has a USB port ?

how are you connecting it to the phone ?

for the pro, they make 3.5mm TRRS breakout cables,

https://www.amazon.com/MillSO-3-5mm-Jack-Adapter-CTIA/dp/B071NDLCGC/

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073ZDDTH2/

you could try that in addition to a male/male 3.5mm TRRS cable to the phone, and see if it works. you'd use both the input and output 3.5mm ports on the puck.

Yes, you'll have to get a splitter though.

Something like this should work: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Headphone-Splitter-Computer-Smartphone/dp/B073ZDDTH2/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=3.5mm+splitter&qid=1588776372&s=electronics&sr=1-7

Basically, plug the Cloud into that and then plug the headphone out to the Scarlett and then the mic out to wherever you wish to plug the mic into. Though, that ends up making it very short at the end so depending on what you are plugging it into, you may need to get an extension for the mic out.

An extension like this should suffice: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-3-5mm-Female-Stereo-Audio/dp/B01CNAUYBY/ref=sr_1_3_0o_fs?almBrandId=QW1hem9uIEZyZXNo&dchild=1&fpw=alm&keywords=3.5mm+cable+extension&qid=1588777104&sr=8-3

Solution worked. You can indeed use direct monitoring with earbuds (or in-ear monitors -- basically, any device that would use TTRS.

If anyone is curious, here is what I did.

I bought these headphone splitters:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073ZDDTH2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  1. I plugged my TTRS jack (Shure SE215) into the female 3.5mm of the splitter.
  2. The male stereo TRS jack goes into a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter, you can find something like this:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D82XXGO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  3. Plug the 1/4" to 1/8" adapter into your audio interface or respective device.
  4. Talk into your XLR microphone, and wallah -- direct monitoring works as expected without any noise distortion (or muffled sounds).

Lesson here is, avoid plugging TTRS devices into the 1/4" to 1/8" adapter without splitting the TTRS signal into two separate, audio and microphone connections first. Then you can connect the headphone jack back to the adapter for a correct transmission.

As WalnutTheDog has mentioned, it is because TTRS connection is unstable via TRS mapping so a headphone splitter is required.
