>Many people have mentioned that since they're 150 ohms they don't need an amp but they won't get loud without them.

That's not necessarily true. They are fairly easy to drive and work pretty well on a PC.

I would get them first, and see what you think. Don't feel you have to run out to buy an amp/DAC.

You do decide you want one, the Tempotec Sonata HD Pro dongle for $40 on Amazon measures as accurate as the best $200 desktop amp/ DACs. It just doesn't have as much power output. But plenty to drive the HD58X to moderately loud volume with crystal clear sound

well i'll use it in listening from here on and get a better feel but it drives with my hardest to drive headphones in high gain mode, i can't tell it apart from a 100 dollar desktop dac by ear, and as a dac alone it works fine with my other amp. cable's going to turn to powder in short order is the only downside so I'll order a replacement.

it's crazy that a 40 dollar chifi dac/amp that is the size of a flash drive does basically as well as what i spent 200-something dollars on a decade ago. especially idk how you justify a dragonfly today. this is a great portable option is my opinion rn

also the biggest complaint in the reviews (big volume steps) is not an issue on mine, there's plenty of steps

The Meizu HiFi Pro and TempoTec Sonata HD PRO are better alternatives.

Is it this one?

Is it really that good? I’ve heard of Syba Sonic but then I was told it might be downgrade after imac’s internal dac. Don’t know though

Most of them will be better than your old phone's built in DAC. Apple DAC is really good for the price but there are some issues on android. The Sonata HD Pro is even better.

Maybe the TempoTec Sonata HD PRO. I have no experience with it but a lot of people say this is a great amp/DAC if you just need something barebones.

Thank You for the answer tho! Should I sent them back and get something else instead? What kind of headphones would be close to SuperLux HD681 Evo in terms of sound, but also as solid construction as MK II?

I was wondering about keeping them and getting Asus Xonar DG or Creative SoundBlaster Audigy FX. Somebody also recommended me this: https://www.amazon.com/TempoTec-Sonata-HD-PRO-Android/dp/B084YX4MZD/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?ie=UTF8&%2AVersion%2A=1&%2Aentries%2A=0

EDIT 1: I have been using the AKG MK II ParamtericEQ preset from GitHub. I doubt it's better, but ofc it sounds somehow.

TempoTec Sonata HD PRO, trust me. I upgraded from my fiio e10k to this. and yes, it does look like rebranded gray market Chinese shit on whatever is a foreign equivalent of Etsy. And that’s because it basically is. But it’s powerful as all hell and the only issue is that it’s hard to fine tune the volume on the amp itself. I don’t have a link, but somewhere online somebody probably trustworthy said it performs like a $100 dac/amp. Also, e10k has an annoying thing where if you play it too low there’s a channel imbalance, and when you turn it there’s sometimes static.

Using my Etymotic Research ER2XR connected to TempoTec Sonata HD PRO hooked to my Galaxy S10+. The app I use is USB Audio Player Pro. Sounds killer! And I got the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 80 Ohm on the way, very excited.

Get a blon bl-03 and a tempotec sonata hd pro. You will have an awesome set for under 60 bucks.

Maybe you have to spend extra on a cable since the cable of blon sucks sweaty balls.

I will share some links (NOT AFFILIATE)

Blon - https://www.amazon.com/HiFiHear-Earphone-Diaphragm-Headphone-Detachable/dp/B07TXXRPZJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=blon+bl-03&qid=1596364900&sprefix=blon+&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExRUVZUkFLQTJMMkVVJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjMwNzE0U1VKMjA3WDBHVkRWJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA4MzM0MDkzREM4T09UUVFRU1Q1JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfcGhvbmVfc2VhcmNoX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Tempotec sonata hd pro - https://www.amazon.com/TempoTec-Sonata-HD-PRO-Android/dp/B084YX4MZD/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=tempotec+sonata+hd+pro&qid=1596364944&sprefix=tempotec&sr=8-3

Now these are from Amazon, total costs comes to 72. If you order from AliExpress you can save some 10-15 bucks. But will take a long time to reach you.

Tempotec Sonata hd pro is a dac (digital to analog converter) which bypasses the dac of your devices in your case it can be a phone or even the laptop. Since most phone nowadays doesn't include headphone jack anyways you can buy the sonata hd pro. And it will give you a better sound.

Or if you are skeptical for spending $38 on the dac. The $10 apple dongle (US version) is a great device too. Also the blon is a fun sounding iem in my opinion. That is you will enjoy genres like pop, pop-rock, rock, edm (atleast in my ears) similar genres better in it.

Sorry I am not a seasoned audiophille (idk if I should call myself that) unlike many people here. But I tried my best helping you :)

Cheers mate!

get a simple USB DAC/Amp, I recommend this one, it's dirt cheap and is very well reviewed.

I've recently purchased Sonata HD PRO following the recommendations on this sub. It is pretty portable and lightweight. There is another version here with support for iPad and iPhone. I am so happy with the performance/clarity of this little guy.

hey, so I just bought a pair HD 280s and they're fairly quiet for my liking, so I was wondering what amp would be good for it. I was recommended the tempo tech sonata hd pros and the fiio a3. so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

No.

Get a Tempotec Sonata HD Pro instead. As what u/raistlin65 usually says, Dragonflies are pretty much obsolete. The Sonata HD Pro costs only $40 yet it measures as accurate as the best $200 desktop DACs/amps, let alone better than the $300 Dragonfly Cobalt.

(A similar model is the Hidizs S8, both it and the Sonata HD Pro pretty much have identical internal hardware, save the different enclosures.)
