The one I got is unavailable at the moment, but this one should do
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008IFXQFU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_KcHfEbDW1QFBN
But keep in mind you should buy one that corresponds with your internet speed but this one is pretty cheap.

Looking for USB WiFi adapter for Dell Inspiron 5000
Hi everyone,
I’ve got a dell inspiron 5000 14” and I’m looking to make it a Hackintosh. I’ve heard that intel chipsets are not compatible with Mac OS so I was wondering if there was any usb alternative I could use. I’m a bit skeptical of opening th laptop replacing the WiFi card since it voids my warranty, however if there is no alternative I might have to.
Edit: Found this one after a bit of searching: https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-wireless-network-Adapter-SoftAP/dp/B008IFXQFU If anyone with similar hardware has had success with this adapter please let me know. Thanks.

That Realtek RTL8821CE seems to have a lot of issues from what I read based on a quick google search. If you've done the driver update and whatnot, then it might not be a software issue and may be that the wireless chip has stopped functioning. I always keep a cheap USB WiFi dongle to troubleshoot problems like this. Try that and if that works, then your problem may be malfunctioning hardware.

I bought this TP Link dongle and it works with the stock image of Retro Arena. I'm mainly using it to scrape box art.

Consider getting something like this ($8 wifi usb stick). It can connect to a hotspot on your phone or any other available wifi. A wired connection is always going to be superior, but if it's this or nothing, an $8 solution is good to have as a potential backup.

USB wifi adapter for $10. You prob wouldn't need an extender after getting this.

What do you need more USB ports for? Assuming the OS supports it, I imagined having a small USB WIFI adapter like this in the port.
I can't think of anything else I would use the USB for.

What's the model of wifi adapter? I'm guessing it's out of tree if you're installing drivers, that doesn't generally bode well for support.
Might just be worth buying another one for a few bucks that you know is supported in kernel. I've had good luck with these, I have a few that work on old computers and SBCs like Beaglebone Black.

I had this same issue with a Cloudready build I am doing for some family members right now. Look for WiFi dongles that have Linux support and lots of reviews from people saying it works on Linux.
I just ordered a TP-Link N150 from Amazon, but have not received it yet to confirm it works.
Panda adapters seem like the go-to for serious Linux users. I would have bought a Panda if this was for myself and I could wait a little longer for the shipping.

That specific Dongle You list - On amazon has some trouble comments.
https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-wireless-network-Adapter-SoftAP/dp/B008IFXQFU
It seems like many times in the past, the company can take a Dongle, and come out with a 'new version' that is nothing like the old one.
So it seems V1 of that dongle worked well on linux, the newer V2 - has issues. But it seems there is a V3 - out now - with not much info i can find.
I would just get an Edimax or cana kit brand made for the Pi. About the same price/features - and should work with no issues.

How far away are the rooms?
The cheapest and easiest thing would be to get one of these for $8. https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-wireless-network-Adapter-SoftAP/dp/B008IFXQFU/
If it works and meets your needs then cool. If not then try more complicated/expensive options.

If for some reason you cant get it solved, your next option could be getting an USB TP-Link Wifi adapter.

Anything specific I should look for in my new one other than a 5ghz connection? Are the ones that connect to the motherboard better than USB?

I got a micro wifi USB dongle like this that I had triple checked before worked well with Linux. Fixed all my issues. Bluetooth still sucks but I can just plug things in with no complaints. They make the same size Bluetooth USB dongles as well. So small I don't even know it's there. Just make sure you disable your built in wifi. They also make a 5g version if you need.

I have a TL-WN725N (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008IFXQFU) and it absolutely refuses to connect to my router at all though SSID scanning works fine. That adapter worked fine with the Bleemsync kernels.

This is good if you are looking for something cheap. Anything cheaper is usually garbage.

If you're plugged into a router, the only signal you can get is the one coming from that router. The mother board may not have WiFi.
Get one of those to access wireless internet

Wireless dongles come in a few types:
USB Tiny - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008IFXQFU
USB With Antenna - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J65G9DD
Do your research. The ones I linked are not the only ones. Some include WiFi and Bluetooth. Some are just WiFi or just Bluetooth.
Check the WiFi speeds on the listing - you'll want AC1300 or AC/N1900. Don't get just N - it's the slower/older standard.

FYI that motherboard looks to be sold out. I would suggest this one and buying a $15 wifi USB adapter:

Hm. Does the system use some external add-on piece like a USB wifi adapter to gain access, or is it internal?
Also, be sure to check the Power Management settings for them, regardless.

USB = cheaper, less range, slower ~ https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-wireless-network-Adapter-SoftAP/dp/B008IFXQFU/ref=sr_1_4?
PCIe = more costly, good range, faster ~ https://www.amazon.com/OKN-2974Mbps-Bluetooth-802-11AX-Wireless/dp/B07X462KRK/ref=sr_1_11?

You need to check the brand's website to see if there are linux drivers for it. Otherwise, you need to buy a new USB Wifi adapter that is already linux compatible like the following:
1 points • xltk
You absolutely need to purchase a wifi dongle to support online access. I can't really speak to which adapters are compatibile, but pretty sure the following https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008IFXQFU will work.
As for the Chrono Cross, not sure what core you are using for retroarch. Probably would help diagnose the problem. Also knowing if there is a specific video config. (GL vs. GLES) you are using . Are you using ALSA audio or something else? Without running top on command line connected to the psc, it would be hard to know if there are any other processes that are running in the background.
1 points • noiceturtle55
This motherboard does not come with wifi. Wifi isn't normally included with lower-end motherboards. There aren't any motherboards with wifi that are under $100 (on amazon, at least). I was able to find a b550m version of the one I linked earlier with wifi (here) but it's $110, so probably the best thing to do is to get a wifi adapter instead.
These adapters can be hit and miss so i made sure to link one with many good reviews. Getting the b450m motherboard and a separate adapter is going to be cheaper than getting the b550m with wifi.

Do you have access to another PC? If so grab LinuxMint and make a bootable USB flash drive, then boot your PC from that USB drive and see if LinuxMint is able to recognize your WiFi adapter. But it's 99.99% dead when it's gone from your Device Manager just like that.
To fix it you have to replace it if it's not soldered on (same with laptop and desktop) but it's easier to get a USB WiFi adapter for under $20-ish or so. Something like this one from Amazon.
2 points • tunaman808
Well, they're just USB devices - not "drives". But they generally work well. A lot will depend on how far away the desktop is from the Wi-Fi source (router). If it's in the same room, you can probably get one like this, that's the same size as a wireless mouse dongle. If the back is hidden, or the router is a couple rooms over, something like this would be better. For all around best performance on a desktop (and none of the downsides of USB), you should go for something like this - much more stable and reliable.

If you're going to buy one with the intent to test with and maybe use while you wait for a driver update, or use as proof that you need a warranty repair, then something like [this] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008IFXQFU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3FkyFbBTZF0A0) would be just fine. On the other hand, if you're thinking this might permanently replace your current wireless adapter, then you could get yourself something closer to [this] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MRVJY1G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_yLkyFb830CWEN). Not that I buy them often, but it's been a long time since I've spent more than $20 on a wireless adapter, so the second one is a little excessive IMO.
If you do go the adapter route, make sure you disable the original adapter in device manager.
Another thought, is there any evidence to show that this might be a problem with your ISP? I was having a similar issue this summer where my internet would drop out around 9-10 o clock everyday. Turns out that something chewed on one of the cables outside 🤷♂️

Both of the builds are good but this is better. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HjyKwh. Ik I went with 3200 ram but its at such a good price and i knoooow you said no overclocking but its super simple and who knows you may change your mind. I spent that money toward a way better psu and I think it was worth it. If you want faster ram itll only be ten dollars over budget.
