Insanely bad deal. 802.11ax PCIE cards are already available and are dramatically cheaper.

Wifi extender vs PCI wifi card

Hello,

Unfortunately, hardwiring is NOT an option. I hate that this is so but it is what it is.

What is faster?

  • Buying a cheap(ish) router, configuring it as a wifi booster and plugging my PC into that

  • Buying this fancy wifi card and using that?

Thanks!

I bought this a month ago for a build and use it for about 9 hours a day.

TP-Link WiFi 6 AX3000 PCIe WiFi Card | Up to 2400Mbps | Bluetooth 5.0 | 802.11AX Dual Band Wireless Adapter with MU-MIMO,OFDMA,Ultra-Low Latency | Supports Windows 10 (64bit) only (Archer TX3000E)

Wow the name is a mouthful.

But it works really well. If the stars align and the ISP isn't overloaded with stay-at-home workers like myself, and my flat-mates aren't data hogs, I get 300Mbps easily. And that's a fraction of it's claimed potential.

The nice thing is that it also includes bluetooth capability.

It can be installed in any PCIe slot, and the bluetooth is plugged by a short cable from the card into a USB 2.0 port on the motherboard, itself.

It has two movable antennas on a strong magnetic base, so you can place it pretty much anywhere on the PC case, or on your desk.

It's a bit pricey, but I thought it was worth it...

For a few more bucks I’d future proof your WiFi card with something like this:

Tp link makes an amazing network adapter, I've been using it for the past couple months and I prefer it to an ethernet cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZV2CJL2/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_IJr.EbF7EQDKK

The ethernet cable coming from a repeater will only provide the same bandwidth that the repeater can get from the router via wifi. The positioning of the repeater is the key variable. If the repeater is close to your computer it will be virtually a glorified antenna for your wifi. You'd might be saving some money by getting a wifi NIC with an antenna.

The best placement for a repeater would be at some halfway point between your computer and the router. In that scenario you'd be running an ethernet cord half the distance between your PC and your router, while only getting the bandwidth of a wifi connection. At that point the signal strength between your PC and your repeater might be good enough that the ethernet cable would not offer anything.

Yeah so I only have one pcie x1 slot and used it for a usb 3.1 adapter to drive link. I also thought USB would allow me to aim it at the play space rather than being stuck on the back of the tower.

Oh I guess maybe something like this? If it works wl enough maybe j don't need the usb c anymore. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZV2CJL2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_X2DzFbVXBPC9D

Is there any guidance on choosing stuff a WIFI card? I'd also like Bluetooth. I have a B550 Tomahawk, fiber internet, and Windows 10. Not sure if anything else matters.

This one seems pretty good? I'm happy to spend a bit more if there's an option that makes a more significant difference.

I just bought this TP Link WiFi 6 AX3000 and I absolutely love it. I bought it for the bluetooth 5.0 functionality mainly (and the external antenna) but I love it for how solid it feels, how convenient the magnetic antenna is (my desk has metal running up the sides to an upper shelf and I mounted it right to that), how long those antenna cable actually are, and how easy it was to get going.

I've installed WiFi adapters in the past that were horrible, this was a breeze to install and the range is amazing (plus I can finally get HD bluetooth on my headphones throughout the entire apartment.)

I would mainly look for something from a big name brand for better driver support, quality control and warranty. TP link or Asus come to mind. You probably want bluetooth 5.0 too. I would avoid bluetooth usb dongles. The 3 I tried all had driver issues and poor connection compared to my current motherboard's built in.

Getting xbox controllers to work over bluetooth can be a pain. My old motherboard's bluetooth just refused to work with it, but my new one works fine. The tp link card I linked uses the same chip as my motherboard, so it'll probably work for an xbox controller.

That wireless card is the #1 best seller on amazon, and gets good reviews. But, it has small antenna, and only two of them.

Compare to:

https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Bluetooth-Ultra-Low-Archer-TX3000E/dp/B07ZV2CJL2/ref=zg_bs_13983711_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=BYE7TFE377YD96PJX0VA

Big ass antenna.

>I do not have this issue on my laptop and if I connect my phone as a hotspot to the desktop

They probably have better antenna, or better positioning/less distance and blockage/interference.

Hi, quick question if you don't mind.

Was considering on getting the TP-Link Archer TX3000E, but started looking into the requirements and realized that for the bluetooth cable to connect to my motherboard there needs to be an available F_USB port. I don't think mine has that, only USB_E12, USB_E34, USB1112, and USB31G1 according to the manual.

Is there any workaround to this whether it be via getting another adapter or just finding a different adapter entirely? I'd like to be able to have bluetooth capabilities and it would've been convenient to have instead of buying an extra USB bluetooth dongle.

Let me know if you need any clarifications. Thanks a bunch for your time and answer!

I've been usiing this TP-Link Card. Its a little more expensive than the others, but I got it due to it being Wifi6 and Bluetooth 5. Its an Intel chip and I've had no issues with it in Ubuntu, Manjaro and Pop_OS.

One has nothing to do with the other. Your motherboard has 2 PCIe slots and the bottom one can accommodate a Wi-Fi card like this one that supports Wi-Fi 6.

Just going by what I've seen several other people post, the "best" way is to put a pcie WiFi 6 card in your PC, set it up as a hotspot, and connect the Quest directly to that. That way you've got the Quest going directly to your PC, which will give you less latency and congestion than going first to a router. This works best if you PC is hard-wired (Ethernet).

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on this: TP-Link WiFi 6 AX3000 PCIe WiFi Card

Is there any particular reason you're looking to change the board rather than just add a wifi adapter?

This card will certainly do the job with a lot less hassle than changing out the motherboard. And unlike a lot of motherboards with integrated wifi, you can also get a wifi card with remote antennae, and is a heck of a lot cheaper than $250.

If you spend a little more, you get a way nicer card (more consistent signal which is less likely to drop and better range).
