Does your CL modem/router have both wireless G (2.4 GHz) and AC (5 GHz)? Any WiFi extender should work but make sure it supports the WiFi protocol the modem/router has. Normally, an AC WiFi extender should be backward compatible but read the description to be sure.
Here is an example on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N1WW638/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_8v0pEb0D2MWS7

I got a TP-Link AC750, as far as I know they should work with any router and it has good reviews online as well. It’s setup by connecting the extender to your router via their app or website

The tp link one on Amazon has worked great for me. https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC750-WiFi-Range-Extender/dp/B07N1WW638/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=tp+link+wifi+extender&qid=1596659203&sprefix=tp+link+wifi&sr=8-3
Would definitely recommend, getting great speeds

I basically have the whole basement set up with Ethernet but not the upstairs. The router is in one end of the basement. I thought about setting up a second AP, with a wired connection to the first...
But although I am experienced in IT (mostly Windows Server stuff), I've never actually set up multiple APs or a mesh network on a wireless network. I picked up one of these on a Prime sale, configured it to broadcast the same network and hooked it to the same router...
But as soon as I turn it on everyone near it reports way way worse speeds and was getting ~5 mbps.
I'm assuming I'm configuring something wrong. Any tips per chance?
It seemed like the logical setup...main router on one end of the house, second AP on the other end...but I'm a little stumped on how to properly configure it.

I would rather not buy another router (expensive) or move it, but instead buy an extender like this one. https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC750-WiFi-Range-Extender/dp/B07N1WW638/ Will that work? If so, got a suggestion of which to get?

I mean, do you have something like this: https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC750-WiFi-Range-Extender/dp/B07N1WW638/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?keywords=tp+link&qid=1583552810&sr=8-15, or do you just have one router which all devices connect to? Also SideQuest can cast wirelessly to your PC.

this looks pretty easy to set up...
1 points • soukaixiii
this but I fail to see why you need it close to you instead of letting it hang next to the router
1 points • ajairo
This will allow you to connect to other wifi networks and then create your own.
1 points • ToastySpring219
hey so the room I'm gonna be using virtual desktop in is upstairs from the router, could I buy an extender like this and connect it to that instead?

Why wouldn't you maintain one Wifi network with extenders? Something like these

- The Ethernet port of RE220 can easily turn your wired Internet connection into a wireless access point. It can also function as a wireless adapter to connect wired devices, like Blu-ray player, game console or smart TV
That way you van wirelessly connect to your wi-fi with TP-Link and wirely connect your PC to TP-Link

Yeah, the naming is confusing, my colleague was recommending me this one the other day: https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC750-WiFi-Range-Extender/dp/B07N1WW638 it’s an extender and adapter in one. I’m not familiar with the brand of the one you posted but it looks legit 👍

Thanks for the rec! I was wondering if this would work also: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N1WW638/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_apa_i_VOJmEbSA3RK4M
I was trying to find stuff under 30 bucks because i have an item ~$30 and i'm trying to hit $50 for a promotion on amazon lol.

Do you have a large bandwith limit? If so I can recommend a WiFi extension for just around $20 off amazon that allows for Ethernet. I’ve been using one since I’m about 300 feet from my router and gigablast doesn’t exactly have the best range. The one I use: TP-Link AC750 WiFi Extender | Covers Up to 1200 Sq.ft and 20 Devices Up to 750Mbps| Dual Band WiFi Range Extender | WiFi Booster to Extend Range of WiFi Internet Connection (RE220) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N1WW638/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_zdrDEbGRYQDXF
It’s $25 and is EXTREMELY worth it. It’s capable of 5G and up to 750mb/s Which is plenty for streaming/gaming/downloads etc.
I cannot remember bough if it comes with an Ethernet cable so I recommend buying one along with it if your original modem hadn’t come with one by default just in case.

I got one of these recently for my garage since that's where our treadmill is and my wifi was terrible out there. It works great, and it has an ethernet port.

I'm aware that it doesn't emit a wifi signal but when I have it plugged in my internet speeds and wifi signal both drop dramatically. I was reading through some troubleshooting threads on Tmobile's website and a few mentioned that when they moved it 12 feet away from their router they had no more issues with their internet speeds. So that's why I'm wondering if it would work with an extender before I buy an extender to try and fix this issue. This is the extender I've been considering.. https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC750-WiFi-Range-Extender/dp/B07N1WW638
1 points • EsKayNYC
Yes, it is most likely some type of electromagnetic interference. You can try changing the broadcast channel on the router. A different frequency may resolve this issue. If this doesn’t work, buy an extender for her room. This one on Amazon is highly rated at $28 and this one at Best Buy is a good and cheaper alternative.

Buy this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N1WW638/
Put it in Client mode. So it connects to your router. Enable the 2.4ghz radio as an AP.
Buy this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N1L5HX1/
Place in your bedroom. Put it in AP mode, connect wire to it. Make sure the 5ghz frequency is on a different channel than the one in the living room. Plug your desktop into it too.
This will provide you with the best speed/ping and most reliable connection.
Repeaters are hot garbage when everything needs to happen twice on the same channel. This prevents that scenerio.

> My wireless internet connection works a lot faster on my phone and my gfs laptop with SSD, would SSD increase a bit my downloading speed?
Not likely unless your hard drive write speed is much lower than your max download speed. It just sounds like you need your computer in a better position for the wireless connection, a better wireless adapter, a powerline adapter, or a wireless extender with an ethernet port. Also, if the NVMe drive you find is much more expensive than the equivalent m.2 or traditional SATA version, go for the SATA version, the NVMe speed difference doesn't really help traditional users.

Have you thought about just getting a WiFi extender with an ethernet port to connect? TPLink has a really good one that I think would work for this.

>I tried to use the WiFi extender that works through the power wire and it did not work in my house
Most likely cause is that you didn't put both devices on the same group.
> if the tp link mesh WiFi works like the extender
Yes. But I don't know how big your house is, but these and these work just as well, for a lot less.
