There's almost no performance difference in games between a 3400G and a 3200G, so get the 3200G instead.

Also, running integrated graphics makes it extremely reliant on having a dual channel memory kit, so you need to go with 2x4gb or 2x8gb. A 3200mhz kit isn't that expensive either nowadays, for example this kit goes for <$60

Buy this ram instead. It’s the same speed and $20 less

Use that money to buy a Ryzen 5 3600 instead of the 2600

How can I tell whether my RAM will work with my motherboard?

I am building my first PC using the Gigabyte B450m ds3h, and this RAM seemed pretty cheap, but still fast and by a reputable brand. I don't know much about RAM compatibility, so will that kit work at full speed on my motherboard? The rest of my components include a Ryzen 5 2600 and a GTX 1650 super. Thanks!

16GB is necessary for almost anything gaming. Prices might not be better, this is the best they've been in a long time for ram. Those ripjaws are too expensive right now, you can get these which are virtually the same thing. https://www.amazon.com/TEAMGROUP-T-Force-Vulcan-3200MHz-Desktop/dp/B07T637L7T/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=team+vulcan+3200&qid=1589864921&sr=8-1

Honestly half the trouble is just finding parts that are in stock. I'd prefer if possible to order it all in one order on amazon for simplicity and delivery rate.

What are your thoughts on a Teamgroup T-Force Vulcan Z?

If you want to game on this build then this build is fantastic, but you do anything else on your pc (like phot/video editing, 3d modelling,etc..) then you should opt for AMD. the Ryzen 9 3900x is a fantastic processor and it will just cost you 30$ more Than the Intel i9. For that money you get 4 extra cores which shred though multithreaded workloads. You can also save a few bucks but opting for a 240mm liquid cooler. 3 fans are a bit unnecessary. You can opt for team t forrce RGB memory which will cost you way less than Corsair. If you wanna cut down cost try looking for a cheaper case and motherboard. Also go for a faster ram speed as well cause 2400 is slow for Ryzen. If you can go for 3200 TeamGroup 2x8GB 3200mhz Ram for $58

You don't need thermal paste or the CPU cooler. The CPU comes with a stock cooler and thermal paste already applied.

Why are you buying two separate sticks of RAM? You could get a pack of 2x8GB with a higher speed (3200) for about the same price I would think. Here's an example.

That SSD seems kind of expensive. Have you looked at WD M.2 SSDs? They'll be faster, easier to install and should be about the same price. Here's an example.

your bottlenecking your rtx 3070 with the ryzen 3 3100, so try getting at least a ryzen 5 3600, or ryzen 7 3700, and try getting faster ram, 2400mghz is really slow. $2000 for light office work/productivity/stock trading is definitely a bit of an overkill budget, but what you've built is a totally solid current-gen gaming PC and I'm sure he'll love it. Some things that catch my eye though are the 1tb SSD and 2tb HDD, is he storing any meaningfully large files? Hard drive space is relatively cheap but you could probably cut that SSD space in half (unless he personally needs it). If you don't even care about saving money and are just trying to hit that price point then a 1tb SSD could be totally fine as well, and I'm not personally sure where the savings could even be used meaningfully in that computer.

Also, Ryzen specifically benefits from faster memory speeds/timings, and your kit has slightly lower timings and speeds than I'd feel happy with in a computer so expensive. Assuming you live in the US, I found a kit of 3200MHz CL16 for only $3 more on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/TEAMGROUP-T-Force-Vulcan-3200MHz-Desktop/dp/B07T637L7T/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=16gb+ddr4+3200&qid=1597705496&sr=8-5

Please note you might be able to find a better deal on different brands/listings/websites, I skimmed it quickly.

Thats really all I can help with, maybe other people will give some better tips. Good luck with your build!

For the ram I suggest this set:

https://www.amazon.com/TEAMGROUP-T-Force-Vulcan-3200MHz-Desktop/dp/B07T637L7T

This graphics card might be a bit of a stretch but if you can afford it this one would be a significant upgrade over the 2060. The 5700xt is an amd graphics card that has around 2070 super performance. People have had issues with this card before (crashing in games) but it's fixed now.

First time builder.

I have an ASUS Prime B450M-A/CSM motherboard, and I'm having a lot of trouble finding compatible RAM. I see there is a bunch of RAM listed on the "compatible memory" area of their website, but a lot of the RAM with the specs I am looking for seem to be discontinued or pretty pricey.

The RAM I was looking at was the G.Skill Ripjaws V or the T-Force Vulcan. Both are on sale today, so I wanted to snag these, but they aren't showing up. These seem like very popular RAM, so I am confused as to why these wouldn't show up as one of the compatible memories on the website.

Am I doing any of this right?

Well, that should be all :)

I'll just say that if you were to buy 3200MHz CL16 it would be a bit better, for example this, the best quality/price ratio offering at the moment: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T637L7T?pf_rd_r=KJB6TZVNCGTR4BVFQ9PP&pf_rd_p=6fc81c8c-2a38-41c6-a68a-f78c79e7253f

But getting 3200MHz RAM that is RGB can get expensive... An alternative could be getting the RAM I just linked plus an RGB strip, or an RGB/Led fan to add to the system, well, you'll see what works best for you...

Finally, in case you'd want something a bit stronger than the 3200G or if the 3200G isn't available anywhere when you'll buy the parts there's the Ryzen 5 3400G (with this CPU the other parts can stay the same, no need to change anything) but it's quite a bit more expensive...

And yeah, I agree on the performances, it's something I would've never expected some years ago for a CPU alone, especially one priced at only 100$

First of all don't ever buy a pre built, they cheap out on parts and they are a horrible value. DIY PC for 800$.

The best thing you can do is to add a ssd (for OS and few select number of games) and upgrade to a set of 16gb of ram

I'd suggest going with this t-force ram kit that should provide identical performance for a better price and switching out to this case. Other than that everything is looking good!

Edit: also this gpu might be a better alternative.

Id keep the psu,gpu and pc case and just buy a new cpu, motherboard and ram and just upgrade the gpu later on as the r9 280x is still halfway decent and its better then make sure the system is up to date.

Motherboard $72
16 GB RAM $55

Given the announcement of how stupidly powerful the upcoming Nvidia 3000 series cards are, You'll probably be able to find a used 2070 or 2080 for $200 in the next several weeks, bringing total cost up to $750.
