If there is enough space you can just mirror your hard drives, but when the whole thing gets fried for some stupid reason or burn down then everything is lost. But I guess you have a home network? Then you can just add a NAS like this, put some big hdds inside and configure it in less than 30 minutes and then tug it somewhere close to your switch where nobody would see it.

I'd second this OP. The J-series is great for backups and light tasks but if you're going to have a few or more users connecting a lot then you're going to be finding bottlenecks quick. If you're going to be serving and possibly transcoding movies for the whole family you're probably going to want a plus model. There's a huge deal on the DS920+, you'd be smart to jump on it: https://www.amazon.com/Synology-DiskStation-DS920-Diskless-4-bay/dp/B087Z34F3R/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=synology+ds920%2B&qid=1602623479&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sr=8-1
