Protac hlx low cost, super effective, very rugged

Not only is the protac HLX cheaper, it's designed to go on a rifle. There really isn't any reason to put a TLR1 on a rifle. I'm assuming you're talking about the rail mount version: https://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-88066-Professional-Flashlight-Batteries/dp/B06VTLLDH4

The Streamlight Protac Rail Mount HL-X is probably the best overall long gun light for your money. It's got a good balance of throw and flood for a long gun. It's super popular and has lots of accessories available like mounts.

First, let's get this out of the way: that example is guaranteed to be garbage and its output is nowhere near 9,000 lumens.

Alright, back to business:

By "touch sensor", I assume you're referring to the pressure switch commonly used in conjunction with IR lasers and illuminators. I would stress that pressure switches are an additional failure point that you can often simply omit with smart placement of the light. See the light placement on my home defense carbine - instead of a switch, I clamp the handguard as I always do and my thumb naturally rests near the tailcap switch.

If you insist on a light that supports pressure switches, your best bets would be from Streamlight, SureFire, or Modlite. By far the best bang for the buck of those is the Streamlight HL-X, which delivers 1,000 lumens in a relatively compact and durable package that includes a rail mount and a pressure switch. A comparable SureFire setup would cost more than twice as much.

I guess I’m confused why you didn’t just buy this

However, I doubt they manufacture two different versions of the lights internals. Seems the only difference is the integral mount and the tail switch. I would say if you can find a used switch and a suitable you shouldn’t have problems, but again I would try to maybe return/exchange the current streamlight for the weapon mounted version.

I just bought this Streamlite HL-X from Amazon for about $145. It’s still untouched so I could return it.

Is this deal in the OP better? Is that light better than the one I bought?

Edit: wait is this literally the same one? Lol Amazon has it cheaper even when it’s not on sale. What am I missing?

[WTS] Streamlight ProTac HL-X Railmount + Cloud Defensive LCS - $145 [CA]

I have a Streamlight Protac HL-X Rail Mount with a Cloud Defensive Streamlight LCS for sale (Amazon links provided for reference).

Light has been mounted on my rifle for several hundred rounds, runs well. I've cleaned the lens after each session, and it's very clear as you can see in the photos. Happy to provide more pics upon request if need be.

Included is the ProTac HL-X railmount light, the tapeswitch, batteries, the Cloud Defensive LCS, and the thumbscrew picatinny rail mount. If you need it, I can throw in a Magpul M-Lok Pic rail section for you to mount it on. It's served me well, but I only have one rifle (for now) so I'm going gucci and getting some Surefire.

Asking $150 obo.

I'm unfamiliar w/ lights for rifles, so I was Googling your recommendations, and I found a number of mentions for the Streamlight HL-X, but they all appear to be related to the railmount (i.e., Streamlight ProTac Railmount HL-X or the Streamlight 88066 ProTac Railmount HL-X). Is the HL-X not the model name of the light itself but instead the railmount portion of the light?

Also, one other question, do you have a recommendation for the number of lumen? I don't really have a great need for a light, but I figured that it's better to have one and not need it, rather than not have one, when it turns out that I do. Is 750 lumens suitable, or should I go up to 1000? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I’ll put together a list of accessories that would work and are fairly cheap. For a weapon light. Look at the protac hlx. link most people really like these. For the price they are pretty good. It comes with a mount and a tape switch. For a foregrip. I would go with a Magpul MVG. They are cheap and fairly comfortable. link primary arms where I linked to is a very reputable company. So look around there for some other think he like mags and what not. For mags. Stick with Magpul, Okay, Duramag, Lancer. These are all good brands (I’m sure I missed 1 or 2) but stay away from super cheap stuff here. For red dot sights. Look to sig sauer Romeo 5 or a Holosun. Those are both good entry level setups. After that a sling. If your interested in looking for one of those hit me up and I’ll try my best to guide you. But there ends up being a lot of personal preference. If you have any questions feel free to ask me, or anyone here.

Also have a 7, I really wanted one of the replacement forends that have a light mount integrated but either they are out of stock or the companies that make them haven't made a version for the 7 yet.

I've gone with the Streamlight HL-X and also the Arisaka Defense offset scout mount. Both are on the way but not here yet. Best solution I could come up with until Midwest or GearHeadWorks make the 7 forend.

Note: the Arisaka mount option will work with the Surefire Scout.

I really like the streamlight options. Ive had this one for a while on my duty rifle.

Whats nice is you can program it so that the first press is dim (so you dont blind yourself indoors) and the next press is bright (so you can actually see targets at distance).

Upper, lower, trigger, buttstock, barrel most everything is still stock M&P 10 16 inch

Grip is Magpul MOE-K2+

Foregrip is ProMag Swiss Pattern vertical Foregrip

RDS- EOTech HWS EXPS2 I don't see myself buying nods or going diving with this gun any time soon so no need for a 3.

Quad rail is UTG Pro AR style 308 quadrail

Flashlight is Streamlight Protac HLX 1000 lumens with a rail mounted pressure pad (on other side)

Flip up sites are Magpul MBUS flip ups for front and back

And finally the retention strap is a Ferro Concepts The Slingster ... because Garand Thumb recommended them and I have 0 experience or opinion on such things anyway.

Big ol' album here!

I haven’t shot it yet – just got it yesterday – but will be taking it out soon! This is my first time installing accessories, so feedback on anything that looks wrong would be much appreciated. Especially wondering about the following:

  • Is the red dot is positioned far enough forward?
  • Is the light is far enough away from the muzzle?
  • Is it okay if the rear sight hangs off the end like it is now? It still feels sturdy FWIW.
  • What do you suggest for cable management of the light switch?

Part list:

Lastly, I really can’t decide which barrel end I like better: the Black Moose 5050 can or the KVP Slim XL linear comp. What do you guys think?
