I had this same issue with my old acer Gn246hl after upgrading from a GTX970 to a newer GPU without a DVI port and my conclusion was that it isn't worth it to try to get displayport to DVI-D 144hz working. If I remember correctly you need to buy some special active displayport/DVI-D adapter which costs $100 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A493CNY/) and 144hz may or may not work based off comments I read. You also may run into monitor flickering issues or black screens from what I read. I decided to avoid the hassle and bought a new monitor instead.

Retire that Acer GN246HL. DVI adapter that can do 120Hz+ cost more than a new 144hz monitor.

Unfortunately you are going to need an expensive powered adapter to make this work. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A493CNY

I don't think an HDMI to dual-link DVI adapter exists. The typical HDMI to DVI adapters you find are passive adapters and only provide a single-link DVI signal which will not get you 144Hz. The cable you linked to is an example of one of these passive adapters.

If your video card has DisplayPort there are DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapters. However, they are quite pricey. Here is an example of one of them:

The comments on this one do/don't suggest it can do 120 hz. No e of the powered adapters I can find specifically say they can do high refresh, but some comments say they do.

He needs an "Active" Displayport to DVI-DL adapter. I had to use one for my 2080s to use my old benq to get 144hz.

Heres the one I used. Expensive yes. But the only way to get DP to Dual Link DVI which is required for 144hz.

The manual doesn't state it explicitly, but very likely your monitor can only do 144 Hz over Dual Link DVI.

In theory you can get a relatively expensive DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI adapter (ex), but in practice many people have a bad experience with them.

Take note, that just any Displayport to DVI cable won't do. Normal DP to DVI cables only have single link DVI, that doesn't have enough bandwidth for anything over 1920x1080 at 60hz. You will need Dual Link (for 120/144hz), and that requires expensive active adapter.

If you want 120Hz, you need an active, DP to Dual Link DVI adapter like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-DisplayPort-DVI-Adapter-Dual-Link/dp/B00A493CNY/

Expensive, but that is what it take to keep carrying forward and old monitor that doesn't have modern ports.

The monitor uses what it's plugged into. The 3600X lacks integrated graphics, so plugging it into the motherboard will do nothing. If you had something like a 3400G, it would use the built in Vega 11 rather than the 5700XT. There were some workarounds where you could get an Nvidia GPU to passthrough an APU using the Nvidia Control Panel, but that requires an APU to work.

You'll have to either upgrade the monitor or get an active DVI-D DL to DisplayPort adapter for like $100 if you want to use 144hz.

Oh ok then so your monitor only supports 144hz through the dvi port therefore you need a display port converter to dvi that supports 144hz. Unfortunately they are pretty expensive and I had the same problem. This is the adapter I recommend as it has to be a dual link active dvi adapter.

Maybe a DVI-D dual link cable is the answer?

It would have to be a displayport-to-dvi cable. And there is one that's known to do it.

Hey I have this exact monitor and ran into That issue. I bought this and it fixed my problems! I can now run it at 1080p @144hz. Was pretty pricey for just an adapter however.

You could get an adapter like this, reading through the questions it does support 144Hz. It is expensive though, I found cheaper ones but they didn't supprt 144Hz.

the monitor only supports 144hz through the dvi-d connector

to properly adapt it you need an "active" displayport to dvi-d adapter like this

650W should be enough, depending on the rest of the hardware. Can you post the rest of your build?

And like u/Harlodchiang said, 144Hz will be achievable on only the dual-link DVI connection. You will not need to buy a new monitor, and instead an active adapter will make it work at 144Hz.

The best I can think of is a active DisplayPort adapter which aren't that cheap if you want one that supports 144 Hz as you might not get 144 Hz with a cheap one. The best one I could find is this one on amazon that also supports 144 Hz.

I'm planning to use the same active adapters as the other guys' configuration, only that the DisplayPort is plugged on the monitor instead of the gpu. You think that could work?

One of the comments for that cable notes that it isn't capable of above 1080p @ 60Hz, as it's not dual link.

@Blazik3n99; It's likely you'll need something more purposeful, a quick look suggests this StarTech DVI-D adapter. Although the price tag will probably offset any thing saved through your friends monitor.

According to the manual for your monitor, the HDMI only supports up to 1080p @ 60hz. It can support 1080p @ 144hz using a dual-link DVI or DisplayPort only. Because your graphics card doesn't have DVI, you have 2 options:

A) Use a DisplayPort cable, problem solved B) Use an expensive DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter like this one as your current adapter probably only supports single-link DVI (which has a 1080p @ 60hz limit)

I recommend option A

>cannot find any mini display port to two DVI

As usual in such posts people never ever reveal what hardware they're using speaking only in generic terms. So I'll assume it's something like an old Dell 3007W 2560x1600px display with dual DVI inputs you wanna connect to?

In that case you'll need something like this

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-DisplayPort-DVI-Adapter-Dual-Link/dp/B00A493CNY/

too bad it eats away your only USB-A port though...

I don't think it makes any sense to spend $100 on an adapter so you can use a $200 monitor. Also, adapters are often a huge hassle and may decide to stop working randomly from time to time and are much more likely to fail outright at any given point compared to a monitor failing.

If you sell your current monitor for $100 and add that to your $100 adapter budget, you can buy a new monitor with DisplayPort, hell, you could even buy the newer version of your current monitor, the BenQ XL2441p for $200 at that point and you'd get DisplayPort on the monitor.

Here is what you are looking for though, but again, you are better off spending your money on a new monitor rather than throwing good money after bad to trying to keep DVI-D alive.

Your BenQ monitor uses "Dual-Link" DVI.

The various adapters you can get that go from HDMI->DVI or DP->DVI are usually "single link" adapters that only supports 60hz.

There ARE dual-link DVI adapters out there. They are active and require power, they are expensive, proprietary, and I'd be worried about latency.

It can be done, but is it worth it? Up to you I guess.

Here's an example: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-DisplayPort-DVI-Adapter-Dual-Link/dp/B00A493CNY/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=dvi+displayport&qid=1588694625&sr=8-2

Slow down. No screen runs at MHz, only Hz. 144Hz over DVI requires a dual-link cable (and a max resolution of 1920x1080); you'll need an 'active' adapter which are not cheap like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-DisplayPort-DVI-Adapter-Dual-Link/dp/B00A493CNY/

Which, for a $160 list price in the US--you can buy a new 144Hz monitor for that money. If you're outside the US, prices/markets vary widly so the economics will shift.

No.

The only thing that could work (and probably won't) would be to plug something like this into the Xbox, then something like this into the output of the first adapter, then use a DVI cable to connect it to the monitor.
