Which specific ones you want to get is really a matter of preference, but a nice keyboard and mouse that feel right to you definitely make a huge difference. I spent years using my company's standard-issue tiny laptop mouse that I had to claw my hand up to use, and in retrospect, I was an idiot for waiting that long to spend a few bucks on a mouse I actually liked.

Unfortunately, one thing to consider here is that - provided you work in an office - your keyboard needs to be relatively quiet if you don't want everybody in a 10-foot radius to hate your guts. That rules out a lot of otherwise nice keyboards.

Noise-cancelling headphones are also pretty nice. I have these and I'd recommend them to anyone who works in an office with other people, though they're relatively expensive.

So first of all, all these things are why i loathe and abhor open offices and will never work in one. It's a cliche answer, but if your boss is not only the kind of person who insists on in-office workers for IT but also open offices, it's time for the old job hunt.

Secondly, if for any of plenty logical reasons you're not ready to do that, buy yourself a pair of these. It helps a lot. They're expensive but very worth it any time you're in a public place like that and sound amazing. https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Noise-Cancelling-Headphones-WH1000XM3/dp/B07G4MNFS1

Your neighbors sound fucking awful. Put in a nice big hedge wall. Gosh I bet nails fall out of that van, that could be dangerous to tires. If you see loose animals you should definitely contact the humane society, it's the right thing to do. These headphones are unbelievably good at blocking out noise: https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Noise-Cancelling-Headphones-WH1000XM3/dp/B07G4MNFS1

XM3 on Amazon Warehouse on sale right now for $235. https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Noise-Cancelling-Headphones-WH1000XM3/dp/B07G4MNFS1/

This was on sale during black friday too and a lot of people got them with no issues but some people including me got different headphones (I got sent an XM2 inside an XM3 box). Thank goodness getting a refund was no issue.

I purchased a Sony WH-1000XM3 about 3 months ago. However, the unit that I received produced static noise in the right ear when Noise Cancellation was on, so I had it replaced. The second unit had the same problem, so I had that one replaced as well. All in all, I'm on my third unit (the second replacement) and this one seems to work well enough. The thing is, I've been without the headphones for these 3 months and just recently, as I received the latest unit, Sony released the WH-1000XM4. So my question is - is there any way I can exchange this brand new 1000XM3 for the 1000XM4 and pay the difference? Kinda like a phone trade-in? Is that possible at all?

I know that feeling of being like a raw exposed nerve ... I have found something which works for me is the following - noise-cancelling headphones - BOSE and Sony in particular - it is an investment but it can really help. You can have different kinds for different situations - for instance I use these Sony over the ears ones when I am in the office Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones WH1000XM3 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G4MNFS1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_pvTOEbXHRPDSP And have some in-ear Bose ones for outside - it really takes the edge off. The Sony ones make the world go away and people have to tap me on shoulder to get my attention. You can tweak it so you can still hear voices that you need to. Great for music and also phone calls. Additionally, I found it helpful to change the times when I went outside - even if it meant going on earlier train if it was going to be quieter. The last suggestion is one I am still working on - forced desensitization - going into situation I know will trigger me and seeing how long I can last. While there - I try to practice empathy for the people around me instead of intense loathing. Anyway .. hope something here helps a bit ! Good luck!

If you are only choosing between these two, go for the Crusher Evo.

If ANC is very important to you, you can do a lot better for around $200. The Sony WH-1000XM3 is available for $229.99 on Amazon.

I bought the newest Sony ones on Black Friday sale. They’re stupidly expensive but worth their weight in gold. Would have bought some a long time ago if I knew they were so good! They’re the best on the market, and even then they’re not 100% blocking it’s soft enough that when you start playing anything it sounds silent.

Have you looked into Sony Wh1000xm3s? Here pretty soon you could probably find a good deal on some. I haven't heard them personally, but I've read good things. Not sure how the bass is, or comfort for that matter. Best thing I could suggest from my experience would be the Dt990s, or HE4XX with an amp and some bass EQ'd in there. The 4xx with a decent bass shelf slams pretty good and the treble isn't as rough as the 990. Either way it's hard to get good bass without an amp at that price. If you haven't already, check out r/HeadphoneAdvice and r/AVexchange. You could have a decent setup used for $300

Edit* wh1000xm3 on amazon for $300

I don’t have loud neighbors, but I sometimes wonder if I’m being too loud, and I would more than welcome one of them letting me know, kindly. Then again, I don’t vacuum or move furniture at night. However, as others have mentioned, walking and talking is reasonable of them, I would think.

I do have a pretty outrageous case of water hammer, every AM around 5. I suggest those new ish noise canceling headphones by Sonythose new ish noise canceling headphones by Sony. They’re crazy good and don’t hurt my head if I keep them on all night.

[DEAL] Sony WH1000-XM3 - price reduction on Amazon

Hi All,

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice on here recently. Finally decided to go for the Sony XM3 headphones (close call with the Bose 700).

I waited a few days and last night randomly checked Amazon, and they had the Xm3 reduced from $349 to $278 (US warranty). A great deal, so I went with those. Really good price. Link here if interested: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G4MNFS1/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_G.M1EbTAT4SWK

I'm probably gonna get some shit for this but I really enjoy the $350 Sony WH-1000XM3's. Bluetooth Wireless so you can get up and walk around the office, very comfy, decent sound, noise cancelling, good controls, folds up so you can toss them in your bag when you go.

If you don't want to spend that much then the corded $150ish Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO are stupid comfortable cans. Like for hours comfortable. The one I linked benefits from being amped but if you are just rolling a cellphone then they also come in very easy to drive 32ohm versions. Great sound for the price. These do not fold up. As long as you don't overcrank the volume, they do fine in an office / shared space environment.

I had a pair of Sennheiser HD580 headphones, with a Schiit Audio Modi 2 DAC, and a RODE-NT USB Microphone. It's a great setup, but then the headband on the HD580 headphones snapped (I had them for 15+ years and got a good run out of them), I was going to replace it with a pair of Sony MDR-7520 headphones but I ended up going with a pair of Sony WH1000XM3 wireless headphones instead. I no longer use the DAC for my headphones since they're bluetooth, but I still use the RODE-NT microphone, and I do plan on getting a nice pair of audiophile headphones again once I'm setup in an apartment/house where I can have a pair of open backed headphones without hearing my girlfriend watching TV.

If you are on a budget and aren't doing anything like a stream or a podcast where you would need a separate DAC and sound mixer, you should consider getting something like the Steel Series Arctis wired (or wireless) headset. The quality is great and it's cheaper than having the fully separate components, though it doesn't offer as much flexibility in terms of fine tuning.

Sony ANC iems you are thinking about are the Sony WF1000XM3

The cans you are thinking of are the WH-1000XM3

These names are understandably confusing. But most people just refer to them as the Sony XM3, and use context or IEM/Over ear to distinguish.

2 headphones listed as the same name, but a different price on amazon

So my surface headphones broke a few days ago, and I’ve been trying to find some new similar headphones. From what i can tell the Sony WH 1000XM-3 are the best wireless noise cancelling headphones. However, on amazon there are 2 listings, one for $350 and one for $250. Both have thousands of reviews.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H2DBFQZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5m0WEbNRP3T3Y

I was wondering what the difference is, and whether it’s safe to buy the cheaper one for $250

Idk about background noise cancelling for calls, so much, but I wear these when using my table saw, and really knocks out a bunch of the outside world noise. EDIT: I linked amazon but you should be able to find them cheaper elsewhere. The new XM4's have come out/coming out, so I assume the XM3 will get marked down more.

It's tough to say... To keep it simple, a similarly priced pair of wireless headphones like the Sony WH-1000XM3 has a greater frequency range (4 - 40,000hz rather than 10-40,000hz that the arctis has), so bass will be "better" on the Sony, but those aren't gamer headphones (directional audio in-game might be lesser, there's no retractable mic and dual-battery system, etc.)

Each pair can produce great bass well, the Sony just has a slightly cleaner bass.

The Steelseries Engine 3 software that's recommended for adjusting Arctis Pro Wireless settings can certainly greatly improve the sound, especially of the bass.

I haven't researched what great gamer headphones are out there for bass-heads, but I know that the Sony XB-900N are loved because they have INSANE bass, I hear. Great for Bassheads, idk about gaming, just haven't looked into it.

TLDR; if you're a true basshead, maybe do some more research and just figure out what you truly want in a pair of gamer headphones. The Arctis Pro Wireless has a lot of great features, but bass isn't what it's built around - it still has enjoyable bass, because they're $330, but nothing quite as clean and premium as a pair of headphones designed around music rather than gaming.

Thank you, first and foremost! Your compliments flatter me beyond belief. I'm just a hobbyist, but I'll do my best to advise you!

Let's start with the easiest, your Antlion ModMic 5. I personally own an Antlion ModMic Wireless, and can attest to their lineups quality.

Your Creative Sound BlasterX G6 is surprisingly good(Source: Amirm of ASR Forums). Just from USB power alone, it delivered quite good results. You're not getting clean bass from this however. It distorts something fierce at low frequencies, and with low impedance headphones (Bose QC25 are only 32Ω) it'll fling your bass wherever it feels like. It also clips something fierce if you dial it to high on the volume.

A quick explanation on Ω, or ohms. You'll see me throw around these numbers, what do they mean? In laymanns terms, the impedance rating of headphones is a measure of drivability from the host device. You plug in a 32Ω headphone, and the host device won't have to work as hard to drive this as it would a 300Ω set of cans. Easy enough, so why ever get higher impedance headphones? Being harder to drive also means easier to control. What? How's that make sense? With lower impedance, it's easier to create distortion at lower volumes, making your music clip or sound like shit. Having higher impedance means more power which means higher detail in what you are listening, thus more control over what your listen to... Oh okay, that starts to make more sense, cool.

So let's break it down with the options I offered, the Topping D10 and the JDS Atom. The Topping D10(Source: Amirm of ASR Forums) offers nearly identical SINAD, a bit better filter noise (Creative wasn't audibly noisy), but vastly better distortion values. As in there wasn't any. From 16Ω IEMS to 600Ω, the distortion at ear damaging levels will still be distortion free.

Where the Creative G6 gets creamed is in power. But not just power, clean power. At 33Ω (your QC25), the G6 can deliver 258 milliwatts of power, compared to the ONE WATT of the JDS Atom. And at that 4x amount of power, it has inaudible levels of distribution compared to the G6, which was all over the place at higher Watts. At 300Ω (The DT770 I linked previously), the G6 offered up 85mW of power, versus the Atoms 250mW. What does this mean for you? It means that if you're using lower impedance headphones (you are right now), your levels of distortion from both the DAC and the Amp sections of your G6 are distorting at higher volumes, and at more demanding sound signatures (bass). This being said, your G6 is competent, and surprisingly so. My recommendation is if you want to clean up your audio, go ahead and pick up the Topping D10 that I linked above, or wait for it to don't back on Drop, and to grab the JDS Atom for much more oompf.

Now for headphones. This is TOUGH, because sound is so subjective. Everything up until now has had no subjection bias. Now we go into the jungle of Subjective opinion. Based on what I know about the QC25s and what you have told me, I can narrow it down to two choices. The ANC version would be the Sony WH1000XM3, and the non ANC would be the 250Ω Beyerdynamics DT770 Pro.

I won't get into each one much, as this will have, and I mean have to be something you yourself look into. I will say that the Sony is a more familiar device to you, with ANC comparable or better than Bose. It has a neutral, if warm sound. The DT770 is a closed back V shape sounding pair, a sound signature you're familiar with in the QC25s. Except the DT770 does the Lows and Highs better. It's got good passive noise cancellation, but not on the level of ANC. It's harder to drive but the Amp and DAC I listed are more that enough. I personally own the DT770s and they're on my head as I type. I love them and daily them.

BONUS ROUND: DROP PANDAS These are the new hotness, 400 bucks for the "best sounding" wireless headphones that have existed. Dunno how you'd get them, but definitely put them on your radar. I'd take these over the Sony. No ANC again, but apparently incredible passive cancellation.

This was a LOT, but I hope it helps you and you take it all in. No TL;DR, reading won't hurt you and I spent way too long on this post to dignity a summarisation.
