Really, your best bet at this point is to get an external hard drive and use it as your time machine backup. I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but a cloud service will cost money as well, and depending on the speed of your internet connection, could take several days to a week or more to finish a full initial backup. Unless of course you have a fully symmetric gigabit internet connection.
By contrast, just plugging in an external hard drive could have you fully backed up in a couple of hours. It will also be the easiest and quickest by far to restore your computer when you get it back.
Something like this would be perfect.
Note: this isn't to bash cloud backup services. They are VERY useful and I recommend them. But, I usually recommend them in combination with a local backup, and given what you're trying to do, backing up to a hard drive is the quickest and easiest way to get it done.

You want an external drive? This should help but I am not sure about the headphones as I just use my regular Sony ones

I’ve had mine for about 2 years and never had any problem at all. I have the 4tb which is 90$ and they have 2tb for $60. They even have videos on YouTube of how to connect external hard drives using this certain one.
1 points • TitillatingTrav
I have this and it does the job. Has no affect on playability. I've heard load speeds are faster with external USB hard drives but I haven't noticed a difference.

Consider the 2TB Seagate BUP Slim external hard drive.
It's going for really cheap right now, $55.99.
Had it for almost 5 years and it's been my best way to store massive amounts of data. You can also take advantage of cloud storage, some sites offer really cheap monthly/yearly rates.

According to the specs on the page, it's an older drive that only has USB 2.0, so no.
The drive needs to be USB 3.x and at least 256GB in size.
This one will work and it offers double the space for only $5 more than the one you linked to: -
https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B07CRG94G3/
But yeah, if you're shopping around, just make sure it's USB 3.x and at least 256GB in size and it'll be fine.

You might have been reading reviews on Seagate’s external HDD’s. When I researched this three years ago it seemed most people considered Western Digital more reliable.
I have the 4 TB version of this, but the 5 TB one is only $15 more. I’ve had it for three years and it still works fine.

the interface is USB A to USB Micro B. the BUS device is powered (it shows a solid light when connected to Linux, but a blinking light on Windows). Drive ASIN: B07CRG94G3, drive serial number: STGX2000400 . amazon link for drive

This is a great value. For backups, you don't need an SSD, since speed isn't important. You might also consider writing to a CD, since they're much longer lasting than most other digital storage mediums.

Dont quote me. But the ‘official seagate’ ones for the ps4 and xbox (blue and green respectively) are just refular seagate 3.0usb externals i believe?
Im oretty sure any 3.0 usb hdd will work. There are a lot of options atm like the 3.5mm docks where you can use full size hard drives, the 7200rpm ones and connect them via usb 3.0. I think for 2 tb youre looking at around $60 these days?

idk much about 2.5 mm hdd speeds. Idk if they list them anywhere, i know it usually goes by the usb cable
1 points • sujal1208_
Tbh, getting an ssd goes 50/50. Transferring to the ssd will be a big penalty hit cause your device only supports probably usb 2 speeds. Leaving 95% of ssd performance go to waste. The only time the ssd will help is if you are going to connect it to a new machine to transfer files or whatever.
If you arent going to connect it to a newer machine, i would look into this one Seagate Portable 2TB External Hard Drive Portable HDD – USB 3.0 for PC, Mac, PS4, & Xbox (STGX2000400) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CRG94G3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Z1c.EbZPKFF7R.
Save the $80 dollars and get a slower driver and give hdd.
1 points • jamtoast44
I cant remember but this is similar to the one I have
EDIT: Oh yeah don't put anything on the drive cause when you connect it the ps4 will format and wipe anything on it.

Hmm... I don't know how practical it is for you but if you save another $60 or so you could start looking at external SSDs in that range. I am guessing this is probably for movie storage and the faster load times really are worth it.
Here is a drive I have that's pretty reliable and on budget https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B07CRG94G3

Depending on your budget. This might work.

Not sure if mine was discontinued or an older model, but this looks the closest to what I have https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B07CRG94G3/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=seagate+2tb+external+hard+drive&qid=1588214204&sprefix=seagate+2&sr=8-3
Perhaps corona is affecting prices and shipping. This was like 40 bucks when I ordered similar if not the same device.

But I had to carefully remove the drive from the enclosure before installing it. A little extra work. Buying the drive itself would probably be easier.
1 points • TheDarkSwordsman
Okay. In that case you could probably start off with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B07CRG94G3/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=2tb+external+seagate&qid=1584066817&s=electronics&sr=1-3
It's a little bit more expensive per GB than a 4 TB compute, but it should be able to handle a bit more abuse (I feel like a drive in your system is the least reliable compared to a dedicated NAS or External/Portable drive) and the R/W speeds should be a bit better than the Compute drives.
I have an older version that I've had for at least 4 years at this point and it can read/write at over 130 MB/s sequential. It also does a great job scrubbing with multiple files in Premiere.
What you can do with this is see how you use the storage before committing to something larger.
For Example: If you want to horde all of your RAW and Complete footage and you are gonna run out quickly (filling it in less than two years or so), you can setup a RAID system to have more redundancy and space (with, say 4 6TB drives in RAID 5 for 18 TB total).
1 points • Axle9325
I have this and it works pretty well I have had no complaints form it in the past year.
1 points • follyburr
what are the write speeds? mainly want this for copying video files into this drive and playing them from this drive. I've tried THIS DRIVE and the write speeds were conistently 90-110 MB/s, but the 5tb model is $109.

Just get a fucking external hard drive. Here’s a 2TB hard drive for $60.

I found this for $60, should fix this for the foreseeable future.

Don't know about that external drive, but I just ordered this one today. But from what I've heard, both Seagate and WD are pretty good anyway so you won't go wrong with either of those.
1 points • bonafidehooligan
I’ve had good luck with this . I’ve had it 2 years now and no issues at all. You could always go larger capacity as well. 2 years ago I paid I want to say $100 for a 2TB and now you can get 4TB for that price.

If you want to capture video save yourself a headache, return that little 64GB flash drive, you’re going to need a lot more space to capture video without hassle.
2 points • cjdouglas0307
Not double the game in free space, but enough space to download the entirety of the game again (i.e. game is 250gb, update is 30gb, you need 250 free). Would highly recommend an external HDD - not only more space but you can put it in any PS4 and have all your games ready.

Yes, you can buy External Hard Drives / SSDs. Be sure to get one with USB 3.0 or higher, internal drives are much faster but as you don't want to open it an External would be fine.
Not sure if Reddit will block my link, but assuming United States:

If your disk is formatted with HFS, and not APFS, then I believe this free app will do the truck of recovering your files: http://www.macdatarecoveryfreeware.com
Otherwise, if its APFS your best bet is a paid app to recover files.
> Honestly if you knew my bad luck, you wouldn't be surprised this would happen to me.
I can empathize with dealing with data loss. I lost something like 200+ albums of music when my external HD died, back in 2007, I remember the day. But there is nothing special about you that you lost data. It happens to everyone. Take it as a lesson to own multiple-backs up, preferably scattered in multiple locations. Especially if you're working with photos and video. Especially if you're doing it professionally. It doesn't make sense to not have a backup. A Seagate Portable 1TB External Hard Drive is $50. A 4TB version is $100.
