This is one of those problems that is only a problem if you want it to be (i.e. a bad excuse). When you lump it all together, it sounds like a huge amount, but no, it's really not that much.

Even taking your numbers which is probably an over estimate, 20 Gb/month means it will take 50 months or a little more than 4 years to accumulate 1 Tb. A 1 Tb external hard disk is $50. I think the police can afford an extra $13/year per officer.

To be clear, this is an OVERESTIMATE, as data storage is a LOT cheaper when done at a larger scale. In fact, in most of those cases, data storage companies charge per file transfer rather than per Gb stored.

I know 50 bucks isn’t exactly cheap for everyone, but this will solve your issue.

May have a faulty or incompatible USB drive. I’d recommend Seagate Portable 1TB External Hard Drive HDD - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CRG7BBH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_hQhpEbWDA359K. Another thing you can try is to download ModMii and follow the steps to install usb loader. Also make sure your usb device is plugged into the port closest to the edge

Those speeds would be crazy if they were achievable lol.

Ya you're right, it looks like in this situation he may be better off going for a cheaper option that provides more storage like a HDD I thought he would be able to utilize the SSD's speed but that doesn't seem to be the case.

That's a relatively cheap 1TB HDD with 3.0 connection if you end up seeing this OP.

An update I don't think would go as far as corrupting the bios. I don't know what it could be, but I can recommend a cheap 1tb USB hard drive that I have.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CRG7BBH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_MdZoFbK9K383W

I honestly don't think your going to be able to repair your hard drive, simply because I don't know enough about messing with efi files, and it would take a lot more time to do so. A USB hard drive like this is a good investment, always a handy thing to have. If I could think of another way to save your files, I would tell you. The only other thing would be saving them to the cloud but that'll take too long to upload and you would have to have a major subscription to cloud storage somewhere, so I think buying a high volume USB is unavoidable.

Sorry bout that.

I bought this 1 TB drive off Amazon, and it's suited me pretty well since I don't usually have a ton of stuff on my hard drive at one time anyway: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CRG7BBH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Obviously this is from America so the price might not be too helpful, but unless you really need a TON of room this should get you by.

i would get a 1TB HDD then you will have enough to install the new update.

if you're willing to spend the money here's one for $50 all you gotta do is just plug it into the PS4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CRG7BBH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_N4X5EbF2EVSFN

This would be about as cheap as you can go if you want space and quality. You can also bump it up to 2 tb for about $15 more.

What is the actual problem that you are having with your PC?

here, but I would recommend looking into either a 2tb (which is only about $15 more) or a 4tb (which is twice the price, but 4 times the storage). These things fill up fast, and 1tb won’t last long at all

You can get a 1 TB drive on Amazon for $46. That costs more than 1 TB of whole sale server space.

And OP said this 9 hour video was only 43 GB. I'm sure 99% of youtubers don't have 1 TB of media up there.

For an Xbox or Playstation it doesn't matter all that much if you get an ssd or not. I know the next gen Xbox offers first party SSD expansions, idk about playstation. That should be a good ssd but you're only going to get the full value of it if you get the next console. If you just want one for your current console, I have this one and it's really good. It's just as fast if not faster than the normal internal hard drive and it's twice the space of the one you're looking at.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CRG7BBH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_-uUSFb6A21Q3Y

But yeah if you want one that will be good for the next console the one you're looking at is good.

Seeing you dont have much experience with computers, I would recommend A portable HDD if you don't care about speed. Just plug into a USB port and you are good to go.

If you do care about speed and is willing to open up your computer get Adata SU760 for faster time opening files and programs on it.

Considering you can get a 1 terabyte external hdd for about $45, and you can use it for things other than games, I'd say it's a worthwhile investment regardless of how much space you think you'll use.

Lg b7p owner here.

I have a 1tb usb hard drive. Formatted in NTFS, and just watched a HEVC 4K Dolby atmos 7.1, 65gb file of John wick chapter 3.

Forget the stick, just get a usb hard drive. They are super cheap. And can store much more than a thumb drive.

This isn’t the one I have, but hell, even a 5tb drive is 99$

I suggest local storage on an inexpensive hard drive.

For $27.00, you can get a cheap 250gb external hard drive:

https://www.amazon.com/Portable-External-Storage-Compatible-Desktop/dp/B07DK94WJJ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa

For less than $50, you can get a 1TB external hard drive:

https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B07CRG7BBH/ref=sr_1_3

I personally have every file I trade for in local storage, and send things to the cloud to trade them.

Get a 1 terabyte drive. You're obviously very smart. I can tell by your writing style and your thoughtfulness. You're being a bit spoiled. You don't need a new computer. The Intel thing is a non-issue as far as security is concerned and won't be one for many years. The SSD isn't supposed to be used as swappable storage. It's mostly for programs and saving things temporarily. They give this small drive to keep the unit lighter and more affordable. These days even a 500g is going to fill right up. It's all about local external drives and some cheap cloud storage if you want. For a very cheap price you can get a 1 or 2 terabyte drive, portable, and the issue is over.

The thing is, you WANT a different computer. You don't need one. When you're 14, things feel painfully important. I'm not talking down to you. I'm just saying, it's not that important because your computer is fine. Stop doing factory resets by the way. SSDs aren't meant to constantly be written over and over. There's no reason to have to do that. Simply keep your programs on the SSD and your files externally. Discussing the purchase of a large storage option is a much easier conversation than a new computer. You can make a case for storage.

This 1 terabyte drive is under $50.

Good luck. You're not an asshole by the way. You sound like a smart industrious kid. But in this sub you're asking us, so you have to accept the opinion.

I have Dropbox and my phone automatically uploads the pictures taken onto it. I have access to Dropbox on all my devices (computers, phones, tablets... etc). I pay an annual subscription fee for Dropbox to get more storage. You can do the same for Google or Microsoft OneDrive.

I also have external hard drives to back up my files, including pictures.

This will do very nicely, depending on how much files you have.

Mostly all external drives will work, just stay away from enclosures. Use gui format to format the drive. Finally if you want a drive that will for sure work I recommend this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CRG7BBH/ref=twister_B08B28LGP9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

If you know what’s taking up the space you could move things to an external drive. If you’re not sure why so much space is being used try CCleaner.

I don't know how much space you are using on the 1tb hdd, but assuming you havent filled it up, a 1tb external should be enough space to backup both, and not that expensive, around $50

https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B07CRG7BBH/

CDs are not a good or safe option to backup your data. They scratch easily and fail unless kept in ideal safe conditions.

I love dropbox. The annual fee is high for the amount of storage I need so I haven't gone that route yet.

As a ScrapBooker it is recommended to keep your photo's in several different ways - printed, computer, thumb drive and an online backup.

For example? a 1 tb portable hard drive for my games: https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B07CRG7BBH/ref=sr_1_2?qid=1578717604&refinements=p_36%3A1253504011&s=pc&sr=1-2

Or maybe instead of getting a 250 gb ssd you could get a 500 gb one: https://www.amazon.com/-/es/dp/B0781Z7Y3S/ref=twister_B07P5VF5TL?ie=UTF8&language=en_US&th=1

(250 gb ssd is 60$ right now, so if you're building those 40$ can literally double your storage capacity for example and you would still have money to spare) .

Basically take the base price of whatever hardware you have and see how much performance you can buy for those extra 40$

I use Segate 1tb external drives with my PI and use this program called hd-idle to spin them down when they're not in use. They have great speeds as I use them with my plex server as well as my backup server

These two tutorials should set you up right:https://maker-tutorials.com/en/spin-down-magage-hard-drive-on-raspberry-pi-hd-idle/https://medium.com/@tamashudak/spin-down-hdd-with-raspberry-pi-using-hd-idle-7709e6c921f8

Also here is the drive that I use:https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-External-Hard-Drive/dp/B07CRG7BBH

Edit:
Not all external drives are compatible with hd-idle so maybe do some research beforehand. If hd-idle doesnt work use hdparm

You can save money and have a better build if you source the parts locally. I.E. get a Pi4 4GB ram version (2GB will also work but 4GB gives you room for future projects while the larger 8GB is total overkill for anything other than using the pi as a Linux based PC).

Get a small SD card or use an existing one (8GB will suffice) to do the initial boot and flash the EEPROM of the pi to boot from the hard drive. I've included options for a wired or wireless controller. I own both versions and have used the wireless for over a year and can attest to the solid build of it. Both controllers have a very similar feel to the original SNES controller with a tiny bit of "sponginess" in the directional pad you wouldn't notice unless you had an original controller to compare against. IMO this build is superior because of the case and the rock solid controllers. This case is made of aluminum and does a really good job of dissipating heat (The Pi will throttle itself so it can't overheat but it WILL slowdown if it gets too hot. Another and probably the biggest gripe about these custom kits is they violate the license of RetroPie and they are custom so if your a novice you'll get a lot of gruff on the sub for using custom images (see sub rule #3).

One final thought, to setup a really enjoyable retro experience takes a little bit of effort, think of tweaking a new PC and setting it up to be "yours". By building your own pi you'll gain the experience of tinkering and have a lot of satisfaction knowing you did it and have it setup just how you want. There are so many options to truly make RetroPie your own.
