Super cheap sd cards are often low quality and you risk corrupting your files. Spend a little more to get a reputable brand such as sandisk

Fyi I think it's on over kill for switch and you can get the regular one for like half price (or same price for 512)
The switch can't use all the extra speed

no there’s no advantage or disadvantage either way. but if you decide to go digital download, you’ll eventually need a microsd card to expand the built-in 32gb flash storage. the built-in will only get you a few games. i recommend this. 128gb is a good starting point, and more than enough for most people. if you feel it would be better to go bigger, you can get the 256gb model. i wouldn’t get a card that isn’t SanDisk or Samsung (people have good results with PNY but i’m unsure if they’ve been officially tested) though as those brands are tested by Nintendo to work without problem.
buying used is perfectly safe also. though if you’re concerned, i recommend buying used from a shop and not a private seller, just in case.

Fair enough. I'm not tech illiterate for the most part but I thought for the most part "Micro SD Card from a big company like Walmart, it should work 🤷♂️". I guess I should've done a lil more research. Do you think something like this 128 GB SanDisk one from amazon would be trustworthy? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073JYC4XM Or should I try to go in-store and buy one from a trusted big retailer.

Dont fall for the 'gaming SD card' meme. Any class 10 will work. heres a 128 card for 21 bucks. It works fine. In a nut shell, write speeds arent all that important. You're largest writes are going to be downloads which will be bottle necked by your internet speed and smaller save writes are so small you wont really see a difference between these and faster cards. Read speeds are all that really matter and class 10 cards read about the same as game carts.
1 points • James89026
I use this one. It really just depends on if you think you’ll be buying games digitally or not. 128gb is good enough for me, and I don’t think I’ll need to buy a bigger one anytime soon based on the games I buy. If you try finding one for cheaper, just be careful and make sure the seller is reliable as a bad SD card can lead to some problems.
1 points • KuyaJohnny
your Switch has 32 GB of internal memory. if you plan on getting some digital games you will probably run out of space relatively fast
SD cards are dirt cheap these days. you can get a 128 GB card for 19 bucks for example.

128GB Sandisk cards are on sale on amazon.
If you dont want to support a megacorp, any Micro SDXC card you can find will work.
The only requirement for Switch is that the transfer speeds exceed 60mb/s. 100mb/s will get you the best performance.
Just try to stick with brands like Samsung, Sandisk or Kingston. For quality purposes.
PNY, Lexxar, and tons of companies have higher failure rates comparatively.

I just got one and I love it.
Just the battery power alone is worth it. Two days easy--NEVER have to worry about running out of power after just one day. Right now, it's reporting like 23 hours screen on time, 116 hours screen off (per AccuBattery). I'm very sure you could do 10 hours screen on time over the course of a day and still have battery left over.
FWIW I haven't had any of the freezing, slowness, etc.
I did get a 256 GB SDCard to go with it, because I felt the 32 gig memory was as bit on the small side. If you do that (and you don't need to go 256 GB, even a $9 32GB card would really do the trick), make sure to get the best/fastest type of SD card--generally the ones with U1 rating, as far as I understand.
People reporting slow, laggy performance may have SD cards that are getting old/slow, especially if they have formatted all or part of it as internal storage and then installed apps there.
I ordered this SDCard (not a particular recommendation, just an example):

It depends on the game, but they’re typically less than 25GB. If you’re going all digital I definitely recommend an SD card. I recommend either the Sandisk Ultra cards or the Samsung EVO Select cards.
It depend on how many games you’re buying, but I’d say 128GB is the minimum you should get. 256GB would keep you covered for quite a while, though!

For around $25 to $30 you can buy a 128 GB SanDisk Micro SD Card and a Memory Stick Duo adaptor.
Please verify the legitimacy of your SD Card with H2testw before using the card in the adapter. It will take a few hours to test the storage medium. If the message "The media is likely to be defective." appears or part of the window for the program turns red, it is not a legitimate card, at which point you should look for a refund and get another SD card. If you don't check, you might end up with data corruption down the line if it is counterfeit.
The SD Card can be brought here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B073JYC4XM?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
The adaptor is at this link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07F68FCHD?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Hi,
I have a Switch Lite and bought this;
https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-microSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B073JYC4XM
in my country.
My question is about loading screen or other performances. I did installed Animal Crossing in my microsd (I assume I did installed it since, I install the microsd first then installed the game) but I did noticed that loading screens take some time. Maybe I am not use to it as I am a PC Gamer originally using SSD 500 mb/s.
My question is, now I will download Zelda, should I download it to microsd or switch own storage space? Which one will perform better? Should I move Animal Crossing from microsd to switch own storage space? If so how? Thanks :)

4 biggest ones I'd say are SD Card,Screen Protector and a Satisfye grip. 4th being carrying case if you take it with you places.
Depending on if you prefer digital catalogue over physical I'd opt for a 256GB micro SD card or higher. If you plan on physical only and some indie I'd go 128 micro sd card.
1 points • sendblink23
As a minimum of extra storage I will suggest to go buy a SanDisk Ultra 128gb microsd, it should be $20 - https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-microSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B073JYC4XM
For safety get one of those glass screen protectors, not sure which is the best one but first google search was this one: https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01N3ASPNV
Get an Official Pro Controller(Costco should have it I assume) or if you don't want to spent much get one of those cheap wired $20 PowerA Pro Controllers elsewhere.

Trying to get this 5th gen restored and I keep getting error 1429 in iTunes. I’ve tried with two different brand new 128gb micro sd cards (Sandisk Extreme V30 & Sandisk Ultra U1 ) Both I have tried fresh and reformatted to Fat32 following the guide on the iFlash site.
I’ll plug it in and windows will pop up saying it can’t recognize the drive and asks to reformat the same time as iTunes pops up saying it’s detected in recovery mode and asks me to restore it. I’ll try to restore and it will hang on the loading bar for a few seconds before saying it encountered an error (1429).
I’ve made sure the zif cable is in as far as I feel comfortable pushing it in. Just not sure where to go at this point.

Trying to move the data off of my 8GB SD card, and onto a 128GB SD card. Switch is a factory-repaired unit. I popped my 8GB SD card into my PC and copied the Nintendo folder to a spot on my Desktop, and every file copies over except for one. It's a ~20MB file that's in my Save folder and it either locks up my PC's File Explorer, or it just errors out. I tried to use a different app within Windows to try and copy it (TeraCopy), to see if it was just a limitation of Windows, but even with TeraCopy it won't copy this one file over. ~~I think it's the file that likely that contains my wife's ACNH save, so I'd much rather not delete or leave it behind when I move to the new card.~~ All my google-fu has led me nowhere. I've tried re-saving ACNH and properly shutting the Switch down afterward before, tried multiple PCs, even tried a Mac and no go. This one file keeps being stubborn.
Anyone have a similar experience? What do?

The MiSTer wiki and forums are your best resources, though there are a few YouTube channels with MiSTer content as well.
Here are my recommendations for building one:
- DE-10 Nano - $130 - Required. If possible, get a student/professor friend to help purchase directly from Terasic and save a few bucks.
- RAM - $30-$70 - Optional, since a handful of cores don't need it. 32MB board is required for most cores though. If you can afford the 128MB board, it's required for some Neo Geo and GBA games, and can future-proof you.
- IO Board -$50 - Optional. Adds a VGA connector for analog video, has a headphone/SPDIF jack for audio, adds a serial port for low latency input options, LEDs, buttons, and a cooling fan. If you want both HDMI and analog output,it is required. If you only need one or the other, you can skip it.
- You can also get a Digital IO board, which will add all IO board features except for VGA, plus a power switch. This is nice if you want those extra features, but will only be using with either HDMI or a CRT
- USB Board - $50 - Optional, but recommended. You can use a USB OTG hub, but that won't work if you want to use something like a USB HDD to hold your games. The USB board will look nicer and give more ports, and has its own power for heavier-draw items.
- Case - $20+ - Optional, but I recommend. There are a lot of people making 3D printed ones, as well as acrylic ones. If you're going to invest in this, you might as well make it look good. If you have access to a 3D printer, there are some great case files on Thingiverse (like the one you see in my picture).
- SD card - $20 - Required. A 128GB card will fit every console ROM and most retro PC VHD images. You'll want an external USB drive if you plan on loading the full Sega CD ROMset--and Neo Geo CD/TurboGrafx CD/PS1 are being worked on, so plan on that.
- Power Switch - $5 - Optional, but way better than having to unplug it to turn it off.
- Analog video cables - $15 - Optional, for use with the IO board's VGA connector. I use these for component out, or you can use a direct VGA connection or VGA-RGBs cables.
- For analog out with no IO board, just use a HDMI-VGA dongle and change a few settings for native 240p analog output through that port.
- Network - $25 - Optional. You'll probably want basic Bluetooth and WiFi dongles, which will permanently eat up 2 of your ports.
- Both are technically optional--so don't get BT if you're not going to use BT controllers, and don't get WiFi if you're using Ethernet or don't mind pulling out the SD whenever you want to update.
- MiSTer has a couple of excellent updater scripts that will keep all of your console cores and arcade ROMs fully up to date, so I recommend WiFi or at least an Ethernet connection available.
- You can also use SMB network shares directly with MiSTer. I have an HDD plugged into my router, and store all of my Sega CD games there.
- USB keyboard is required for initial setup, but otherwise only required for use with retro PC cores.
- You can use basically any USB or bluetooth controller. I like 8BitDo's stuff, especially the M30. A lot of people like the Retro-Bit Saturn controllers. XBox360 and PS4 are common choices as well. But this is totally up to you.
- There are extra add-ons like BLISSter and SNAC boards that allow natively connecting original controllers, but that's a whole advanced topic.
MisterAddons.com and ZeroHimself on Etsy are good resources for add-on boards.
That should be a pretty good jumping off point for you! If you just want to dip your toes, you can play a number of cores (most notably Genesis, TG16, and GBA) with only the DE-10 Nano, SD card, and an OTG hub (\~$160). Most other cores require at least 32MB RAM, and some GBA/Neo Geo games require up to 128MB.
I recommend starting small and slowly building up if/when you find you need additional boards like IO or USB--a full build gets into the $400 range.
Once you're ready to start, use the SD card installer to build your SD, and add put the the updater script in the scripts directory. Connect a USB keyboard, HDMI screen, and Ethernet for initial setup, and run the updater. It will download all of the current cores, and set up the basic folder structure for you. Once that's done, take your SD card back to your computer to load ROMs into the games directory. You can run other scripts like WiFi setup, RetroDriven's arcade updater, bluetooth pairing, and ini file configuration once they're pulled down by the main updater script.
There's a lot more you can do at this point (customize settings, set up the MiSTer for FTP or SMB access so you can add ROMs over the network, connect it to your SMB network storage, set up wallpapers, etc) but those rabbit holes are out of scope for this starter guide.

Hatred of money would be a reason, I suppose. No, the manufacturer just prints a little mushroom on the card and presumably kicks Nintendo a licensing fee. Which is why they cost more.
Are you in the U.S.? I searched "microsd 128gb" on Amazon and found three under $20: Samsung Evo ($19.49), SanDisk Ultra ($19.49), and SanDisk Ultra ($16.36).
The last one is cheaper because its transfer speeds max out at 80MB/s, rather than 100MB/s. It should work fine in your Switch, though load times could be a second or two slower. Nintendo recommends transfer speeds of 60 to 95 MB/s for optimal performance. (That doesn't mean that it will have problems with cards "up to" 100MB/s ... just that the Switch isn't rated to use those extra 5MB/s of speed.)
2 points • DerpMaster2
If you already have an enclosure then a high quality desktop hard drive would be the cheaper option. A 128GB SD card hangs around 20 bucks from viable brands like SanDisk, they work just fine but are maybe a tad slow. If you go the cheapest possible route, then you could pick up a 120 gig external hard drive for 15 bucks, but because it's off-brand you have no idea how its compatibility is or if it'll last long. If you get just a regular old SATA hard drive under the Samsung or Western Digital brands then I bet you could get a terabyte one for 20 or 30 bucks. But then you'd need an enclosure.

Here's one by Western Digital. I know you don't need this much space, but hey, at least you won't run out. 120GB is kind of a dead size now because storage gets cheaper over time, so you will want 240 or 500 gigs minimum, there's no reason not to because the pricing is so similar to 120GB.

Here's a Lenovo one, a terabyte, a brand that I trust.
This one's an SSD, it'll be way faster than a hard drive. You'll need an enclosure, but this is also a good brand and it'll last longer than a hard drive too.

Yes, you can get the microSD cards. Amazon regularly puts the cards on sale and you’ll usually find it cheaper on amazon vs in retail store. I’ll edit this to post some I recommend I included the cards I used and work fines for my switch after 6+ months of use.
What we mean by “overpriced” are the officially licensed ones with the Switch logo on the card as they were priced 2-3 times the normal SanDisk ones

This is a good beginner raspberry pi project to start. Raspberry Pi Zero with Retroflag GPI case and 120GB microsd card combo. The reason why I recommend going with the 120gb card is because I ran into storage issues once I loaded all the Gameboy Roms, scraped the Art and added the game preview videos for all the games. I had to clean the library for the GameBoy Advance Section since a lot of the games are 2/3/4 in ones and random sucky games at least to my taste. Once you learn how to load the software, understand the basics of emulation on the Pi etc etc, do I recommend on tackling the bigger projects.
Retroflag Case : https://www.amazon.com/Retroflag-CASE-Raspberry-Zero-Shutdown/dp/B07RT9VGS4/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Retroflag&qid=1587897577&sr=8-3
The reason I include the pi zero package is because its easier to hook it up to a physical keyboard and monitor when first configuring the pi zero and for future add ons.
**Optional** USB Hub to plug in keyboard and mouse.
