The size isn't a problem. I'm not sure how it stacks up to the gold standard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWZWYVP/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_sQQ6EbE284M18

Skip this and get a 128GB Samsung EVO Select for $25. It's faster and has double the amount of space. A Nintendo Switch isn't going to write to microSDXC very frequently anyway.

I have one and all it does is serve as an archive drive for games that I haven't played in a long time as well as saving screenshots/video to upload to Twitter.

128GB for $20. This one lasted me two whole years before I filled it up.

But you can get a little better GB per $ ratio by going for the 256GB card for $32.

Micro SD cards aren’t needed but given we’re in a global quarantine it’s a little bit hard to get physical games atm

here’s a link to a 128 GB micro sd, it’s $20 and it’s the one I personally am using

A good amount of games are larger then the systems default 32gb, not to mention dlc and updates

The EShop is like the Switch’s App Store, you can buy games and have them directly downloaded onto your switch, no need for cartridges. You can simply plug your PayPal or credit/debt to pay and almost every single switch game is on the eshop (unfortunately the popular Ring Fit Adventure is physical exclusive :( )

I don’t have MP but I’m pretty sure, yeah it’s impossible to play without joy cons, If you had the wii, the set of joy cons you get with your system acts like 2 wii remotes, one per person. So you can play MP with yourself and 1 extra person, anyone else you’ll need to get another controller. There’s a lot of great switch controllers you could get besides joycons, joycons them selves come in tons of colors (they are expensive tho about $80 for a set) (most 3rd party remotes can be about $20-50, if you don’t want them to be wired aka plug the controller into your dock, that’ll run you closer to $50)

Hope it helps let me know if I can help :)

Lots of info here. Tl;dr this is a fantastic camera. A lot of functionality. Blackboxmycar.com has a youtube channel and has great resources on their website for learning more about cameras. And you can buy everything i talk about minus the specific brand of SD card from them and they’re pretty much on par with everyone else with pricing, but they usually throw in free extras

No night vision, but it does very well in low light situations, and in my car on my widows, in rain it’s very very good. I did some experiments with not using the wipers and i only used the wiper when I could barely see out the window. The camera picked up details very well (if you treat your windows with rain-x or a similar product which beads the water it will make it even better). GPS can be turned on or off via the settings. If you purchase the hardwire kit and install it (use fuse taps to make your life easier and plug into your fuse box. Also, the viofo hardwire kit made for these cameras has an adjustable battery voltage shut off so you wont deplete your battery leaving you unable to start your car), you can use parking mode which will automatically start recording full video, a time lapse, whatever you set it to do. The G sensor has sensitivity settings so it wont trip in high wind/rain but will record when someone bumps it. Additionally, the G meter when tripped automatically locks the video file to prevent it from being overwritten. You can turn on wifi and connect to it on your phone and using the viofo app download the videos straight to your phone. Leave wifi off unless you’re downloading video. Use the 5G wifi vs 2.4 for faster speeds.

I highly recommend it. Worth the money for sure. Make sure if you get the duo version, to decide which camera gets which cable end. There is a straight end and an L shaped end, and depending on your car’s design the rear may need the L shape. You can test the camera with a phone charging brick. Invest in a high quality SD card no matter what you buy. U3 at least. I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWZWYVP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_iWZYEbX39XA1H 128GB gives around 6 hours when i have 30fps 4k front and full HD in the back. Lower resolution makes for smaller file sizes but the detail of 4k is worth the extra space. I’d recommend 3 minute video files in the settings 5 minutes is like a 1 gig video at least, and it’s a bit excessive.

Verify it’s a legit samsung micro, even amazon has had counterfeit sd cards sold. It’s a good idea to have at least a 32gb sd card as a backup in case your main dies.

And consider buying the polarized lens for it as well to reduce glare. It just snaps on the camera.

Finally, the 4k file type is h264 by default, and my computer had trouble playing the vids back on the default video software. VLC ran it fine, however. You may need to tweak the settings, something about decoding the files. I had the blotchy smear of pixels happening and I reversed the changes i made back to default on VLC and it was crystal clear.

Any questions let me know

They are actually cheaper than that. A 128gb Evo card which is probably the most you'd need for most use cases is only $20 right now. But I am pretty sure it will work fine. They may have some sponsorship agreement or something. Who knows though.

I use a Samsung Evo 128GB microSD card. You should at least get a class 10, UHS-1 microSD. Sandisk and Samsung works, though other brands would be okay as well.

Make sure you buy from a reputable seller. If you're buying mainly digital games, start with 256GB.

Glad you’re enjoying your model s! I had some issues with a few different USB drives so I bought a 128 gb SD card and a USB adapter and haven’t had any issues in 6 months. I bought the SD card on sale so everything was ~$20 total.

A lot of people recommend getting the Samsung T5 500gb SSD. I’m sure it works well but I personally think that is a bit overkill when considering the cost.

I haven't used up too much more than half my internal storage so I save that space for apps and put everything else on the card.

I tried newpipe but I couldn't get my playlists like watch later to show up so I ditched it and suffered with the ads for a while. I now just watch youtube in firefox mobile with adblock plus and video background play fix addons so I can listen to music with the screen locked or the app in the background without having to pay for yt premium.

I would inform your older brother about the situation and tell him he should take his PS4 back or gift it to you because of your little brother's bad behavior. I hope hearing this will influence your brother because I sure as hell wouldn't let my sibling borrow MY electronics after hearing about them selling my siblings' electronics and videogames so they can buy more videogames. Who says they won't sell my games and electronics too so that they can buy whatever the hell they want???

Get a lock for your door like others have suggested w/ a key. Your little brother is not welcomed in your room. If you're old enough to help pay rent you are old enough to have a lock and key for your room because you pay to live there and you also live with a thief and what he did is not acceptable.

Also I would suggest buying digital copies for your games. This is the microSD card I bought for my switch. Only about 25$ I bought this years ago though so you can probably find similar priced microSD cards for your switch. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWZWYVP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_vtX5EbA0RKP52 I own about 20 games including skyrim digitally and I still have less than half of this taken up. I have 80.8G of storage on my microSD card left meaning I have only used ~38% (48G/128G) and I have owned my switch since the release of Zelda BOTW. The only physical games I own are BOTW and Mario kart.

I had a Kingston sdcard that was plenty fast and works in my mavic 2 but when I put it in my skydio it would only record 1min of footage at a time. I bought 2 new ones and they work great. You can a better price for a microSD card. On Amazon you can a 128 GB for $19.99 or the 256 GB for the about same price as the Nintendo branded 128 GB.

Also a word of advice if you’re looking for a 256 GB on Amazon and see that the San Disk one is three cents cheaper than the Samsung one, don’t buy that one. The Samsung’s microSD card are U3 while San Disk has U1. U3 has a faster write speed of 30 mb/s and U1 has write speed of 10 mb/s which can affect the loading times and download speeds.

FINALLY! Someone else recommending them! Super cost effective for 400 mbp/s recording and I've done \~3 years of shooting on them, probably 12+ terabytes with no issues.

If you don't care about 400 mbp/s, I use these cheap Samsungs also. Price is unbeatable and they are dead reliable. I've done probably 60+ terabytes on these in drones, Gopros, Panasonics, Sonys, Canons, Nikons, and even Samsungs and have had no problems with the cards, ever.

Actually, I just went through and tested the game with my MicroSD card disconnected. I deleted the game data, removed the card, and redownloaded to force it onto the system’s internal memory. My existing save remained intact, which means it was already on the system’s internal memory to begin with.

Unfortunately, I continued to experience the same problems with the game hitching on auto save as before.

Also, per the linked article below, save data will always be written to the system memory regardless of the game data’s location. https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22289/~/data-management-faq

For reference, here is the MicroSD card I’m using - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XWZWYVP/

The card has a 100MB/s transfer rate, which is actually 5MB/s higher than Nintendo’s 60-95MB/s recommended range. I don’t know how that would impact performance. Ive been totally fine with every other game I play.

Testing: Transfer speeds via USB cable (2.0 vs 3.1/3.0 cable test) for pictures and videos

Hi all,

I had made a post here a little while ago (see that post here) asking why I was getting slow file transfer speeds between my phone and computer. A few of you had asked some questions on what type of cable I was using and it turns out that although my cables were anker, they were only USB 2.0 (which I thought was strange).

Anyway, I purchased this USB 3.1 cable to do some testing and see how much things improved.

Before I get to the testing, I wanted to lay out some information that I know for sure to clear up any issues anyone has in the future.

  • What is the speed of the stock cable which comes with the phone?: This is a USB 2.0 speed cable.

  • What is the USB port speed of the Galaxy S10?: The port speed is a USB 3.0 port

  • Does it matter if I have a fast Micro SD card installed?: Obviously the faster card you have, the better. I'm running a 128gb Samsung Micro SD card.

  • Will using a USB 3.1 cable help improve my speeds?: Possible, but highly doubtful. We're likely talking margin of error here since the port on the phone is only USB 3.0. I just wanted a future proofing cable and it's handy to have.
  • Is it worth saving my files to internal storage instead for faster transfer speeds?: See testing results below.

Not that it much matters, but here are the specs of my PC that I'm using:

AMD Ryzen 1700, 16Gb of Ram, Transferred to a 1Tb HDD and a 500Gb SSD, Windows 7 Pro, Plugged into a USB 3.1 port.

Onto the testing:

Cable Used| File Type| Quantity | Total File Transfer Size| Time Elapsed| Transfer Speed ----|---|----|----|----|--- Stock USB 2.0| Photo Files| 325 Photos| 1.1Gb| 0:43| ~25Mb/s Amazon USB 3.1| Photo Files| 325 Photos| 1.1Gb| 0:22| ~50Mb/s Stock USB 2.0| Video Files| 5 Videos| 7.13Gb| 3:41| ~32Mb/s Amazon USB 3.1| Video Files| 5 Videos| 7.13Gb| 1:27| ~82Mb/s

I then ran the test again transferring over to my SSD and got +/- 1-2 seconds in the test, so I don't believe transferring to the SSD really helps much at all.

So from the results, you can see roughly a 2x transfer speed if you are transferring over just photo files, and roughly a 2.5x transfer speed if you are transferring over videos.

I additionally tested transferring files from the internal storage over to my computer using both test methods and got +/- 2% on total transfer times, so I would consider them pretty equivalent (expandable storage vs internal storage).

I hoped this helps people decide if they are having issues with slow file transfer speeds for their S10 or if they think the upgrade to the cable is worth it. I definitely think it is for my purposes.

TL:DR; Stock cable is USB 2.0, Port on S10 is USB 3.0, upgrading cable to faster speed protocol shows pretty significant improvement. Data goes vroom vroom now.

The biggest thing you need is something that can survive high temperatures.

I bought one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7P4SY4/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_VjjVEbBTDMGC8 because it is rated for temperatures of 180 degrees or so. Also rated for high wrote speeds.

I also bought a small USB-A to USB-C adapter so I could plug the thing in to my phone to get the footage. The adapter isn't necessary though since they built a dashcam video viewer in to the car.

As of this afternoon though I've shifted to a [Raspberry Pi 4B] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TD42S27?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) with a 128GB [Samsung Evo Select Micro SD card] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWZWYVP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) running [TeslaUSB] (https://github.com/marcone/teslausb). I did this to leverage this feature of TeslaUSB: https://github.com/marcone/teslausb/blob/main-dev/doc/SetupRClone.md wherein the footage is automatically uploaded to my OneDrive when I get home.

I post over at /r/Teslacam occasionally and this makes that process easier.

I also like to just keep the footage in general, just in case.

Hatred of money would be a reason, I suppose. No, the manufacturer just prints a little mushroom on the card and presumably kicks Nintendo a licensing fee. Which is why they cost more.

Are you in the U.S.? I searched "microsd 128gb" on Amazon and found three under $20: Samsung Evo ($19.49), SanDisk Ultra ($19.49), and SanDisk Ultra ($16.36).

The last one is cheaper because its transfer speeds max out at 80MB/s, rather than 100MB/s. It should work fine in your Switch, though load times could be a second or two slower. Nintendo recommends transfer speeds of 60 to 95 MB/s for optimal performance. (That doesn't mean that it will have problems with cards "up to" 100MB/s ... just that the Switch isn't rated to use those extra 5MB/s of speed.)

Is that the current recommendation? Or from the original product manual regarding the size? Check and see if it was true for the most recent firmware.

I doubt it's active, but the Head-Fi discussion thread for it probably has discussed the card capacity more than once: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/the-fiio-x1-discussion-and-help-and-support-thread-192k-24b-100mw-lo-inline-remote.691332/

Yes, you can get the microSD cards. Amazon regularly puts the cards on sale and you’ll usually find it cheaper on amazon vs in retail store. I’ll edit this to post some I recommend I included the cards I used and work fines for my switch after 6+ months of use.

What we mean by “overpriced” are the officially licensed ones with the Switch logo on the card as they were priced 2-3 times the normal SanDisk ones

Samsung 128 GB $21.99

Samsung Evo Plus 128 GB $22.25

SanDisk Ultra 128 GB $19.99

My verdict: This card has no speed rating other than the obsolete "class 10" rating, which is extremely slow by current standards and requirements. In fact, it's so obsolete, that an entirely new class system has since been developed and this is no longer used, other than to be there for people to know it's certified for older devices which specified the memory must be "class 10."

Here's how big of a difference it is, and how slow "class 10" is now in today's standards...

  • Class speeds: "One's" of MB/s of the minimum steady stream write/save data (Class 2 = 2 MB/s, Class 6 = 6 MB/s)
  • Class 10 speed = 10 MB/s
  • UHS speed class: "Tens" of MB/s of the minimum steady stream write/save data (Class 1 = 10 MB/s, Class 3 = 30 MB/s)
  • UHS-1 speed (U1) = 10 MB/s
  • UHS-3 speed (U3) = 30 MB/s
  • V speed class: Actual number of MB/s of the guaranteed minimum sustained performance for recording video / steady stream write/save data (Class 30 = 30 MB/s, Class 60 = 60 MB/s)
  • V30 speed = 30 MB/s
  • V60 speed = 60 MB/s
  • V90 speed = 90 MB/s
  • Application Performance Class: At least 10 MB/s and a minimum IOPS (input/output operations per second) for reading and writing, determining whether apps stored on an SD card can be accessed without latency and delays between operations to read and write multiple times in succession
  • A1 speed = 1500 read IOPS and 500 write IOPS
  • A2 speed = 4000 read IOPS and 2000 write IOPS

Here's a nice chart: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SD_card#Class

(See also Speed)

What's important about speed ratings vs speed claims is that flash memory might be capable of 50 MB/s read and 40 MB/s write speeds, but not be capable of being certified for sustained 20 MB/s write speeds (claimed 40, not even certified of 20 at a sustained rate, which is necessary for video), hence only having a class 10 rating, certifying that it's capable of just 10 MB/s sustained write speeds. In that case, it might only reach 40 MB/s write speeds for an extremely short duration, such as one tenth of a second or even 10 seconds, meaning that if you attempt to save video onto the memory, it will stop working after either 1/10th of a second or after 10 seconds. That's why the above certifications are important.

How to find a microSD card

Here's how I would approach this..

In brief:

  • First, assess what the minimum requirements are, and what is wanted to meet your goal (size, speed, reliability, etc.) and explore available options.
  • Second, to check this item specifically, check for reviews of other items of this brand, and check the seller reviews and ratings.
  • Third, scan/analyze this item and other items from the seller using available online tools that assess the legitimacy of the ratings/reviews and also show price history.
  • Fourth, check other legitimate websites that sell items like this to see if any sell it. Start with Google Shopping perhaps, then some individual stores, like B&H, Newegg, Microcenter, Bestbuy, Walmart, then also Target (and make sure it's items sold by those store, not other sellers selling through those stores.)
  • Fifth, check for reviews on YouTube and search the web in general for the specific brand. See if it's bigger, more known channels making reviews of this brand. See if anyone is includes the brand in a review of fake memory cards.

In more detail:

Step 1. Consider minimum requirements and what meets your goal:

  • A. Minimum write speed (U rating, V rating, Class rating)
  • B. Minimum read speed (usually not an issue as it's almost always higher than write speed)
  • C. Standard vs High-Endurance memory needed (things that constantly write and re-write data, like dashcams, require high-endurance memory cards as standard cards are not designed for it and will fail prematurely with the amount of writing and re-writing data required for that use.)
  • D. Capacity (storage space)
  • E. Consider the actual usage: if it's for a phone and you know dumping most of the contents of your SD card every year is what can work for you, and you know you typically save less than 30 GB per year of pictures and video per year, and you're getting a new phone that takes pictures and video at higher resolution, thus higher file size - say twice the size per picture and video, then consider that a you might now use 60 GB per year with your new device, so a 128 GB card would be plenty of capacity with some extra buffer. (Also consider that the phone might store other data there, so you wouldn't want to get an outdated card that is only available at much slower speeds too, so yet another reason to not get small card, like 32 GB or 64 GB.)
  • F. Consider the 'sweet spot' price per GB of cards. Don't just look up one size, like 128 GB, and buy it. The prices might be nearly the same for double the size. For example, the prices (of these non-endurance microSDXC flash memory cards) could look like this:

-- 32 GB for $8 Samsung Evo Select 32 U1 only U1 speed

-- 64 GB for $11 Samsung Evo Select 64 U3 (GA price: $25)

-- 128 GB for $20 Samsung Evo Select 128 U3 (GA price: $29)

-- 256 GB for $30 Samsung Evo Select 256 * (GA price: $50)

-- 400 GB for $75 SanDisk Extreme 400 C10, U3, V30, 4K, A2 ratings

-- 512 GB for $80 Samsung Evo Select 512 (GA price: $130)

-- 512 GB for $75 SanDisk Extreme 512 C10, U3, V30, 4K, A2 ratings

-- 1 TB for $230 SanDisk Extreme 1TB C10, U3, V30, 4K, A2 ratings

(Note - these are real prices gathered on November 23, 2020, using mostly Samsung Select EVO cards for a single-brand comparison, except for a one or two options. I contacted Samsung and learned that models ending in "HA" are models made/marketed for Amazon and are identical to the models ending in "GA," with no differences other than the model number. I suppose this is just to allow Amazon a lower price and to prevent Samsung and the brick and mortar stores from losing more money from selling the identical GA models through non-Amazon stores by preventing price matching since "the model numbers are different." (That sounds pretty sketchy.) Where both models exist, I list the GA pricing at the end, and for anyone on mobile, I'll make the GA price a link to it on Amazon in case you are in a brick and mortar store and want to price-match.)

Step 2. Since there are no or few reviews, check other products of the same brand for reviews:

  • A. In Amazon, click the brand link below the name of the item and narrow by category to the left to find others of the same brand and check them for reviews. Choose the products that are the most similar.

  • B. For this example, this product you asked about that has no reviews is similar to these other products by the same company:

-- SUPERDUODUO 256GB Micro SD Memory Card (Class 10)

--SUPERDUODUO 128GB Micro SD Card (Class 10)

--

--

  • C. Check the ratings for the seller on the Amazon seller's page. For the example you provided, that's:

I didn't finish writing this up because it's taken a lot of time so far and I need to sleep.

To be continued... maybe..

(Maybe I'll turn this into its own post to help people shop.)
