Interesting.
As /u/chillaban stated it looks like the Samsung BAR but the specs themselves seem identical to the one they recommend in the manual.
Can anyone spot the difference? I mean, even the price is the same.
I thought maybe one handles thermals better than the other, but no. Like, same drive, but different.

This is a very compact option: Samsung FIT Plus USB 3.1 Flash... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7PDLXC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It's not as quick as the Samsung M.2 drive or the SSD I'm using on my other Pis, but still way faster and more resilient than the SD Card. It's a good choice if you don't have a lot of room.

Here is what I got:

I saw a few people suggest it in other threads in this subreddit.

I'm using a 16gb SD card with the OS and this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D7PDLXC/ for the ROMs so I don't have to worry about re doing the SD card if something goes wrong

I use this USB key with live persistence and it’s fantastic.

I am in this exact situation and I’ve posted about it before. Buy a small Samsung USB drive to run whatever from it. It’s faster than the internal eMMC ever was. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7PDLXC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_CFgJEb0HMAW97

The manual literally provides recommended flash drives on page 166 that are only $20 for 128GB. I don’t understand why everyone thinks you need an SSD. And unless you’re storing music, 128GB is PLENTY.
This is one of the drives recommended in the manual that I use and has been flawless:

Pretty much any eternal SSD will work quite nicely. I use one from Sanidisk I would not use a thumb or spinning hard drive. I use this one. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MUF-128AB-AM-Plus-128GB/dp/B07D7PDLXC/ref=sr_1_3?crid=36JIFUAQB5FXH&dchild=1&keywords=usb+3+thumb+drive&qid=1588867602&sprefix=usb+3+thum%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-3

Maybe I'm just an idiot but I've tried. The only options I have to format in are either exFAT or NTFS.

I've been using the following for years now. I think it's still the best thumbstick in it's class with the highest Read speeds which is something you want, especially for large CD based games.

It’s pretty full and dialed in with games. Rocking it for a week and it’s working great.

DEVOPS Men's 2 Pack Thermal... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7PDLXC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Cheap and perfect for the job.
It’s tiny so it takes up almost no space and it holds 30 days or so of video which you will probably only have sentry mode on for 1/4th a month anyways

I had the same experience using the 128GB, it would always fault out even after multiple reformats. I dropped in a SSD with an enclosure and haven't looked backed since. The reliability of the data is worth saving a couple bucks to me. Especially since who knows what kind of other inputs we may be getting in the future, hopefully inside and pillar cams.
This what I got before. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7PDLXC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_nKttEb2XBWG8X

That's fair. There are mini flash drives like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MUF-128AB-AM-Plus-128GB/dp/B07D7PDLXC
After doing some quick googling though it seems like a flash drive will be more similar to a SD card than a SSD in terms of reliability, which makes sense I guess.

I would say this thumb drive from Samsung (128gb, USB 3.1, 300mb/s read, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7PDLXC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_rSBuEbVZDEKFB).
EDIT: I have the reg shield tv, so not sure if it works totally, but Amazon is great w returns and they'll refund it in full if it doesn't work I'm sure.
EDIT 2: Found an article that shows good USB / HD devices for the shield, they list a SanDisk one that's $40 that is Nvidia recommended. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.androidcentral.com/best-external-drives-nvidia-shield-tv%3famp

I just got a new Samsung 128GB stubby drive, it works aces. Assuming that Sammy doesn't have a mess of different internal parts that all get the same label, you should be able to pick up one that works too. Remember to format it Fat32 (I don't remember what it came formatted as from the factory lol).

Is this the [PNY usb] (https://www.amazon.com/PNY-Turbo-Elite-Flash-Drive/dp/B01DWN1CMG) you are using? I ask because it claims 115mb/s read speeds.
When I was searching amazon I saw this Samsung USB thats claims 300mb/s. Assuming that is the relevant metric to judge the file load times, this usb might resolve my concerns with the cut scenes stuttering.

I know there is a large amount of discussion on this, but is there a consensus on which drive works best for Sentry mode? Tesla recommends this one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7PDLXC/ref=twister_B07F718YLH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The price is great, but will it work? Some people in Amazon comments say it does not.
I know there are a couple of tailor-made solutions out there specifically for Tesla, but they're asking for $60+, but I think the only thing they're really offering is a FAT32 format and a TeslaCam folder. I can do that myself.
I know a bunch of people here have the Samsung T5, but that seems like overkill. And I'm not sure how well it will hold up in the summer heat.
Any suggestions?

One of the two Tesla recommended thumb drives:

Works fine

I have had great success with this high endurance MicroSD card and USB adapter. I used to have a flash drive, but the video would often be corrupted and I received multiple error messages on the screen that the drive was too slow to handle SentryMode/Dashcam.
Ultimately, flash drives are not designed for the constant rewriting that dashcams demand, and they fail quickly when used as such. High endurance MicroSD cards were designed specifically for dashcams, which is why I chose to use them over flash drives. SSD external hard drives are also an option, however, they are not designed to handle the extreme temperatures that MicroSD cards can handle. They also use more power and take up more space than a high endurance MicroSD card.
Honestly, I wish Tesla would just include one of these cards with the sale of the car at this point or at least provide an official recommendation to use high endurance MicroSD cards. It would save a lot of frustration for everyone.

Hello, Im trying to convert my SD card boot to USB 3 on my new pi 4 8GB RAM model. Got it last week and used the raspberry pi OS imager and everything is updated. I found this updated guide on Youtube They are a reliable source and everyone seems to be having no issues but i get error 00000044 upon boot. i also get the message "USB-MSD requires newer software"
Here is that guide I followed again, in text form
I have ran

The USB drive i am using is a Sandisk Ultra and hdparm test all look positive, read about others using that model and no errors are shown when copying the SD card to it.
I am considering this as a upgrade but not even sure what the problem is.

there is a video by madlittlepixel where he mentions he is using a usb 3.0 stick, however, it's a Samsung. He mentions this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D7PDLXC/ is the one he uses and definitely works for him. Also mentioned having issues with some other types of usb drives
about the 1:30 mark is where he starts to talk about it.

I already ordered a bunch for our Model X
-
Tesla Front and Rear rubber floor mats
-
Rear Floor Storage Unit (we got the 6 seater configuration)
-
Brighter Interior Lights (Tesla is notorious for dim lighting)
-
USB Flash Drive(to record camera footage)
Also probably going to get a insert for the front center console, there’s that deep cavernous space in there and there’s some nice inserts out there for better use of the space. We have one in our Model S

Create a Manjaro install USB, boot it up and install it to a fash 3.0 flash drive. Now you have a fully functional Windows PC, then you can boot into your Linux install from the flash drive. This is a great way to try installing and updating different distros without virtualization.

There are some other options to allow your system to boot the flash drive. Luckily, Manjaro works well with EFI booting systems (Windows). Hit me up if you have more questions. Good Luck!
