I would stay away from that one too; it costs the same price as the 2TB 860 evo

They're doing 25% cash back on the 2TB version. Makes it about $187 before tax once you get the cash back.

I believe i used this model in a 2012 mbp. I suggested macsales cause they are pretty good at providing tools, advise and videos. Plus a small dealer. Check ifixit too.

Dude for sure!!
I used to always keep my Kontakt, EW, and Logic libraries on my internal SSD, but I've since ported everything over to my external SSD(s) and it's literally the exact same boot up speed and time. I never run into the Disk Too Slow error, and then I get to take everything with me to other studios if I'm using a portable rig for the day.
Honestly if you're going to expand your storage, do this-
Grab the drive they'd be putting in your system (while upcharging you literally another drive to install it)
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-860-EVO-SATA-Interno/dp/B0786QNSBD/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=internal+ssd+2tb&qid=1596953719&sprefix=internal+ssd&sr=8-3
And then grab something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5RLG2C/ref=vp_m_pb_TIER1_cmlr_lp_B07D2BHVBD_pd?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01N5RLG2C&pd_rd_w=nZqzh&pf_rd_p=785db917-35c9-4e08-a5f2-1b2998b0997b&pf_rd_r=5e43e23d-9407-4ede-b481-b757bc6385b6&pd_rd_r=5e43e23d-9407-4ede-b481-b757bc6385b6&pd_rd_wg=KhGCS
Now you have literally 3tb for the price of the upgrade.

Same price on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Inch-Internal-MZ-76E2T0B-AM/dp/B0786QNSBD/
Was actually posted earlier - https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/jzdwgy/ssd_samsung_ssd_860_evo_2tb_25_inch_sata_iii/
I would buy from Amazon as the customer service is much better, especially when you deal with return issues.

>Is it a good idea to use an SSD to save my files?
Yes !
SSDs are of course faster but also more resilient to damage & drops than HDDs. It mainly boils down to budget.
For the Boot drive and software, you should get an NMVe. Even a cheap 250Gb one will facilitate fast boots and shorten load times. Now about the storage drive : f you use the drive to store games or media editing files, get an SSD. If you're storing files that do not require fast transfer speed and are infrequently opened (e.g. movies, series, music library, pdfs ...)
For instance, you could get a 500Gb PNY CS3030 NVMe for $70. This drive is very fast, but expensive, at 7$ per Gb. On this thing, you install Windows, software and the games you're currently playing.
Then the storage drive : let's compare a popular HDD vs a popular SSD of the past years :
- HDD : Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 2Tb - $55 - average read/write speeds 134 MB/s
- SSD : Samsung 860 EVO 1Tb - $115- average read/write speeds 440 MB/s
Here you can see the SSD, with the storage volume normalized, is four times more expensive but also is more than three times as fast.
So it really comes down to you much you want to spend. But as a general rule, don't plan on gaming on an HDD, as some games can experience freezes and long loading times.
I would personally recommend getting a large enough (1Tb) NVMe along with a big, cheap HDD.

Linux supports being a time capsule, I configured it fairly easily on my Ubuntu machine. Any computer with the storage you want should be able to handle the job. A dual core with 4gb of ram would suit your needs, and you can pick up a Dell optiplex any day of the week for well under $100.
Otoh, 2-6tb of ssd is not going to be cheap. A 4TB Samsung will run you more than your budget. 2TB is much cheaper. If you browse r/hardwareswap, you might find a good deal.
If you don't care about ssd, life is much, much easier on your wallet.

Also which SSD would be a better buy the Crucial MX500 2TB (https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX500-NAND-SATA-Internal/dp/B078C515QL) or Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2TB (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Inch-Internal-MZ-76E2T0B-AM/dp/B0786QNSBD)

https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-FireCuda-Gaming-Accelerated-Performance/dp/B07H2F3741/ 165 (ouch) typically in the past could find between 60-100 depending on time of year. like i said.. covid....
how big is the hd now? if 1tb then you definitely need 2. if 500, and you want to save money, go for a 1tb.... newegg has for $57 (59 at amazon) https://www.newegg.com/seagate-firecuda-1tb-st1000lx015/p/N82E16822179111
if you need more space and can't find a cheaper firecuda... just spend a little extra and get ssd. much better performance. https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-SSD-PLUS-Internal-SDSSDA-2T00-G26/dp/B07YFFJK2Q is $189 or https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Inch-Internal-MZ-76E2T0B-AM/dp/B0786QNSBD is $199

Hey guys, first time posting here, sorry if this is long for this thread. I'm not great with computers and I had a friend build one for me a few years back. I've begun to run out of room on my current setup and would like to add more storage. I'm not sure if my motherboard is compatible with the storage I would like to use and I have a few questions based off of that.
This is my equipment.
My motherboard: MSI X99A SLI PLUS https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813130841?
The storage I would like to use: Samsung 970 EVO plus 2 TB. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MFZXR1B/ref=twister_B07NLZ58HW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I asked the friend that built my PC about upgrading and he said he's not sure I can use the NVME storage, he can only see SATA compatibility, I just wan to make sure we're not missing something.
Questions:
Is this storage compatible with my system?
If compatible, am I right to say that I can only have one m.2 drive on this motherboard?
If this storage is not compatible my backup is to use this https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-500GB-Internal-MZ-76E500B-AM/dp/B0786QNSBD/ref=dp_ob_title_ce?th=1 . I already have two 500GB of these drives installed and I'm wondering how many more of this type of drive I can install without any additional equipment.
Thank you guys so much!

Title: [USA-DC] [H] 2017 iMac (w/Applecare), 2014 Mac Mini, and matias wireless backlit aluminum keyboard [W] Paypal
Username: /u/afewscribbles
Body:
All prices include shipping to CONUS via USPS or FedEx Ground. Open to negotiation since my bigger concern is just getting rid of them.
2017 iMac picture one (for verification of the Applecare date and general info) and picture two (for current verification of operability) This is the high-end 21.5" iMac, with a 3.4 GHz Core i5 and the Radeon 560 Pro. It has been upgraded with 32 GB of Crucial RAM. Uniquely, it was originally equipped with a Fusion Drive, but the 1 TB SATA drive has been replaced by a 2 TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD, and has been configured to use it with the in-built Apple SSD as a Fusion Drive. It also has AppleCare+ Coverage until December 21, 2021 and will come with all the original packaging and the included mouse and keyboard unopened and unused. Looking for $1250.
2014 Mac mini picture one and picture two [Unfortunately, I no longer have access to a TV or monitor, so the first picture is a current timestamp and the second is from when I previously tried to sell it that shows it powers on and functions) This is the mid-range 2014 model, with a 2.6 GHz Core i5, maxed out memory at 16 GB, and the Intel Iris Graphics 5100. In addition, it has a 1 TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. Unfortunately, it was bought secondhand, so it will not come with the original boxing and materials. Looking for $300.
Matias wireless aluminum keyboard Pretty straightforward. An aluminum keyboard from matias, one of the better makers of chicklet standalone keyboards for macs. Lightly used before transitioning to Windows and it's most notable feature (and why I bought it originally) is that it can switch between three devices. Looking for $70.
