>What model number did you go with?

HP EliteDesk 800 35W G4 Desktop Mini PC, Model 5DD49PA. Any model should work if the motherboard chipset supports >= 64GB RAM.

>Googling seems to show that these only support 32GB (2x16GB DIMMs). Did you have to do anything silly to get them to take 2x32GB?

That's correct, all the product literature states they only support 2x 16GB SODIMMs. However checking the specs for the motherboard chipset states it supports up to 128GB, so I took a gamble and bought 2x 32GB SODIMMs and they worked out of the box. No special tweaking required. I'm guessing the HP product literature only says up to 32GB total because 32GB SODIMMs are only fairly recent.

These are the SODIMMs I used:

I used Samsung 32gb x2 DDR4 2666MHz 260 pin SODIMM. However, i wouldn't purchase 1 32gb stick but instead 2 16gb sticks that way you can run dual channels instead of single. (I can't answer the SSD question. I just know it's a single 512GB SSD component)

Here's the link to the Samsung sticks i purchased from Amazon:

the 8th gen nuc with the i7 NUC8i7BEH2 also supports 64GB ram so you might find it cheaper.

Also you can use these sodimm modules: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2666MHz-Memory-Computers-M471A4G43MB1/dp/B07N124XDS

I have an adata xpg8200 nvme ssd btw, cheap price/performance

FYI I run such a nuc as an esxi lab and the ram modules work flawlessly :D

No issues but I didn't exactly run benchmarks either. Would there be concerns about the RAM not compatible? The service manual looks the same (could just be outdated though).

I put a Samsung 32GB SODIMM in mine, for a total of 40GB. It's pretty dreamy for software development and general computing now.

The amount of RAM you need depends on the types of computing you'll do. What are your plans?

I would upgrade RAM and storage depending on usage.

I recently(today) upgraded my RAM, I have one 32gb stick and the stock 8gb stick. It is a very easy process just pop the back off and take out the RAM and put new sticks in.

One word of advice, it is only supposed to work with 1Rx8 RAM sticks, however the 32gb RAM stick I used is 2Rx8 and works no issue. I did try 2 16gb 2Rx8 RAM sticks at first from my gaming laptop and the T480 just played a tone letting me know it was not happy and would not boot.

RAM stick I purchased for reference

I have two of these installed:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N124XDS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The BIOS sees all 64GB. Windows 10 Pro, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, and Fedora 32 see all 64GB.

Though, I don't recall for certain if I've ever gone above 40GB of usage at any particular moment in time as of yet.

Yes I got less RAM only 32GB in the Thinkpad. Why? Because unlike Macbook RAM is not soldered to the motherboard. You can buy RAM yourself and install it and save hundreds of dollars. $125.05 x 3 = 375$ https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2666MHz-Memory-Computers-M471A4G43MB1/dp/B07N124XDS

SSD you better off again buying your own. 2 TB for only $350 https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-970-evo-plus-nvme-m-2-2-tb-mz-v7s2t0b-am/

$2,334 + $375 + $350 = $3059 You get a monster GPU with 16 GB and you pay $1400 less. Thinkpad give you Options Apple does not you have to pay for their ridiculous upgrade prices and can't buy parts for 1/4 of the cost and install it yourself. Not only that the SSD you can remove it from the Thinkpad and put it in another future laptop or even Desktop in the future. If the Macbook SSD or RAM dies you got a dead Motherboard period and if you are out of guarantee you are screwed. Another option is the P53 which have a superior Screen to the P73.

The trick with Thinkpad is 1) Buy on Sale (back to school Summer or Black Friday) 2) Buy with Corporate Discount if you want it, you can PM me.

Sure thing! Here is some more proof. The Asus website even says the max ram is 48GB, but that is with the 16GB onboard model. Not sure why BB thought it was 24 LOL

https://imgur.com/3bovdgk.

and here is the exact stick I have. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2666MHz-Memory-Computers-M471A4G43MB1/dp/B07N124XDS/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=32GB+SODIMM&qid=1591289028&sr=8-2

it runs at a slower 2666 but it is cheap. I haven't been able to find a 32GB dimm at the faster speeds yet

r/pcmasterrace • comment

More than likely they're inter-changable because they're DDR4. Usually you can tell what the speeds are by looking at the sticker that's on the RAM that has the barcode.

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2666MHz-Memory-Computers-M471A4G43MB1/dp/B07N124XDS/

See how it says 2666V on the sticker? That's the speed.

I just went ahead and pre-ordered the G14, thanks! I'm currenly on a 13.3" screen and use an external monitor, so that shouldn't be a major issue. I can also get by with the default RAM configuration at least for a while. It looks like I should also be able to pop in a pair of these guys though (as long as I'm willing to pop the motherboard):

Same here, I went with the i7, and the battery life is incredibly long, even longer than the macbook air (w/ i5 cpu) I sold to help pay for the Lemur Pro.

I too have seen some of the benchmarks of the i5 vs i7 for the Lemur Pro, if you want to save the $199 difference and allocate that to upgrade more memory or storage its not a bad idea.

When I ordered my Lemur, I went with the nvme 250gb for +$50 and stayed with the base 8gb's of memory and bought the same 32gb stick memory they put in the Lemur Pro on Amazon for $117 instead of paying $225. So if you went with the i5 vs i7 you could easily upgrade to 40gb's total and still have $105 for a second nvme drive or just save the $$$.

Since the power consumption between the two are pretty close I dont "think" your going to sacrifice alot of battery life going with the i7 vs i5, but Im not a super geek when it comes to cpu's. Someone else can chime in here, I can only tell you my experiences with the i7 like the post above.

Here are the specs including power for the (2) cpu's offered in the Lemur Pro. Note the i7 has a higher top clock speed and more 2mb's more cache. Also the 32gb stick I bought is listed below that.

Good luck my friend, buying the laptop is easy...waiting for it is the hardest part!...btw from order to to my door was a week from California to Michigan w/ normal assembly time and 2 day shipping via UPS and that was a month ago, w/ school now back in session your results may vary.

PS - Im getting about 12-14 hours w/ i7 w/ balanced mode on battery with light coding, some youtube videos, surfing, mail, etc. nothing too intense.

it's surprising how many sellers ship to morocco nowadays, amazon gives you a rough estimate of the import fees and you deposit them when you're checking out, if the actual fee exceeds the estimation you don't have to pay that extra according to their policies too
when it comes to their shipping it's most usually during the timeframe they give you on the product page so they're pretty reliable thus far

No, I purchased the (2x) 16g SODIMM. BIOS wont recognize any memory even with the stock SODIMM stick in A slot. I believe that these just simply wont work.

I reached out to the seller I got the laptop from Amazon from and am gonna see if they can sell me another 16g stick. If not, I have read that these work:

  1. https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Single-PC4-21300-SODIMM-260-Pin/dp/B071H38422/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Crucial%2BCT16G4SFD8266%2B16GB&qid=1593974517&sr=8-1&th=1
  2. https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-260-pin-ddr4-so-dimm/p/N82E16820232169?Item=N82E16820232169
  3. (64gig) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N124XDS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I will most likely be going with 1 if the seller is unable to send/sell me another stick of the stock 16g RAM.

Also, this archived Reddit post gave me some insight as well:
