not sure you can get around it but I have one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Individual-Switches-Included-HB-UMP3/dp/B00TPMEOYM

I leave it plugged in and use the USB switch instead

also powered USB might eliminate problems if you've had any

I doubt the tablet will be able to power the usb hub and any peripherals by itself. You'll need to get a hub that has its own power source - something like this.

I'm not sure if your tablet will support a mouse or external storage but I'm sure there are apps that will allow that.

Would this usb hub be able to charge a couple controller charging docks, and power a Bluetooth transmitter? I specifically need a usb hub with off switches, because the dock cycles power to the USB ports every so often and attempt to connect to my Bluetooth headset, which is distracting when it disconnects from what I’m currently doing, also by having the Bluetooth transmitter plugged it the dock doesn’t send audio to the tv, so I hope by turning it off with the power switch the tv audio will work.

Unless you need the extra charging ports I'd probably just go a little cheaper with something like:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TPMEOYM/

You may just end up returning the thing but some folks are doing okay with powered hubs.

As far as the randomness of it all, Oculus probably just "optimized" something and put a .0001 amp more draw on the headset that your setup just didn't have to spare. Display, sensors, speakers and five cameras pretty much tap out all but the best behaved USB ports. I get displayport fails on my desktop if I have my Rift S plugged into the wrong USB port... it's a weird way to fail but it is what it is.

If you pick one up try and shoot back a reply about how it works out so other folks can decide if it's worth trying out.

I saw this exact product in other posts here so I ordered it, I thin the dedicated power supply is supposed to help?

I’ll try changing ports. Kind of a bummer if it’s one of the direct connections on my brand new x570 board lol

I think some motherboards have a power passthrough on some of the back USBs but obviously that would depend on which one you have. The easiest and probably cheapest way to do this would be to get a powered USB hub.

Here's one I have that I can recommend. I have the 7 port.

As the other reply indicated if you've tried all your ports then an powered usb 3.0 hub is kind of your only option.

It's a pretty common issue but there doesn't seem to be a reliable fix on the software side. You just have to get lucky and have motherboard/laptop that supplies the exact amount of power the O+ expects. I had the issue for months with a BRAND NEW motherboard (Asus X570-E) but I haven't had a single issue since I got this USB Hub: Sabrent 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub.

I use this unpowered and never had any issues: https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Individual-Switches-Included-HB-UMP3/dp/B00TPMEOYM/ref=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=usb+3+hub&qid=1605823132&sr=8-12

I use this for my webcam + audio interface. I like that I can turn off each port individually.

I then use a unpowered usb2 hub for keyboard/mouse.

I wouldn't say usb-c hubs are more reliable. I have a bunch of usb-c hub for macbooks and none of them work on my Windows PC with usb-c port.

if you get a powered USB hub you can.. shouldn't matter what you use tbh. this is the one i use and it works great. i'm using the Elgato HD over a 12' usb cable (ext + cable) with no issues.

i've never used avermedia but all a/v passes though just fine w/ the pc off.

That's the problem with USB audio. Various issues that are more or less related to the USB host implementation.

In case that there is not enough power on the bus (USB 2.0 standard is 0.5A), you might need to use a powered USB hub.

Other apps can indeed interfere with Audio when is more than one device - I would try to disable the on-board audio in Windows Devices.

One of the things I did because I use both a FireTV Stick and Chromecast on both of the TVs we have, is get powered USB hubs that plug into the wall that have individual switches for each port (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TPMEOYM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). This way they can get power from the wall, but I have the option of easily turning them off/on when needed.

r/WindowsMR • comment

actually it one on on the WMR sub, just the cheapo from Amazon for like 14 dollars with 4 ports and a power adapter - but I think any would work as I suspect my mother board just cannot muster up enough juice to run the hmd.

It has worked ever since, but I find i have to power down after each use or Windows throws errors [ when launching WMR]. So, I have to power it down, then boot up windows , then turn it on which triggers WMR to launch and it never throws those errors anymore related to USB. I hope this works for you , too, since it was cheap and easy. I got this one now that I search :

I had this problem and this is what I did:

I bought this and plugged it into the USB port next to HDMI

I plugged my Samsung Fit usb into one of the ports, set the USB mode to Max Performance. I have not had any overheating issues like I did directly plugged in. Read/Write speeds are pretty good too. I have a 5TB Seagate Drive plugged directly into the USB part farthest away from the HDMI.

EDIT: I can post read/write results later if you want to know.

This is interesting. It makes a lot of sense why I see people use USB hubs on these types of devices even though I see no mention of how many hard-drives or peripherals they're using---after all, if a device has two ports and you're only using one, at face value it doesn't make sense to use a hub to add more you won't use.

So what should I be looking for, exactly?

This one on Amazon mentions 60W of power, and comes with a 12V/5A adapter. That sounds pretty beefy, but it's also a bit pricey and comes with more slots than I would ever need.

Smaller and cheaper ones don't mention wattage, but come with 5V/2A adapters, which is a lot less power coming in.

Also, is there any way I can verify it's a power issue before I make the purchase? Like any apps that track power output via USB or anything?

The Vive link box seems to be the best solution, it still doesn't work for everyone though and it's expensive, plus you would need to buy extra extension cables.

I don't know if the cable or hub has the higher chance of working. I use two passive cables without much problems. I also tried an active cable and hub, but both caused problems, so I can't speak for either of them.

I think this active cable would fit well, you need an extra AC Adapter though.

A lot of people also use this hub and put it between their extension cables and the headset or just staight use it as extension.

Some also had success with using an active cable and the powered hub in tandem (first active cable + AC, then USB hub + AC, then headset).

The blue screens are likely "USB signal integrity" issues (the headset gets not enough power), the static seems to be voltage drop and that happens mostly on older motherboards.

The mouse and keyboard are connected to two of the ports on the usb hub and the usb hub is connected to an otg cable which converts usb to micro usb (as i have an older phone). I got the hub at a local tech shop for around 10$ , only found it online in the indian amazon (sadly its unavailable right now) here's an amazon link :https://www.amazon.in/eCart-MAXICOM-Hi-Speed-Individual-Switches/dp/B079JGB848 Or the most similar one i found is this one:https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Individual-Switches-Included-HB-UMP3/dp/B00TPMEOYM/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?keywords=4+port+usb+hub&qid=1581454562&sr=8-12

My monitors have a button that takes you to the menu where you toggle between inputs - it's less tedious than it sounds. As far as sharing USB devices, I haven't done it yet, but it can be accomplished with a USB switch and USB hub like these:

Amazon.com: Sabrent USB 3.0 Sharing Switch for Multiple Computers and Peripherals LED Device Indicators (USB-SW30): Computers & Accessories

Amazon.com: Sabrent 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub with Individual LED Lit Power Switches, Includes 5V/2.5A Power Adapter (HB-UMP3): Computers & Accessories

Alternatively, if you want fewer pieces/steps, you could use a KVM like this:

Just search Amazon for "USB 3 HUB" or "Powered USB 3 hub". I recommend a powered hub if you are going to charge stuff, or plug in USB powered hard drives.

4 port powered hub
https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Individual-Switches-Included-HB-UMP3/dp/B00TPMEOYM/

7 port + 2 charging only ports powered hub:
https://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-UH720-7-Port-Smart-Charging/dp/B00SCX6I8A/

non-powered 4 port usb 3 hub
https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-4-Port-Individual-Switches-HB-UM43/dp/B00JX1ZS5O/

note this part of product description for the non-powered hub:
"For a stable connection, any device connected to the 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub must not exceed a combined current of 5 volts 900 mAh. External hard-drives should be connected to an external power source. This 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub will not charge your devices, it will only sync."

put the hub AFTER the usb extension

works with sensitive headsets like the odyssey plus

This is how you get them to work. Cables don't work because the headset draws near max usb power and voltage drop causes it to fail. If it's a 6' cable it is normally fine but that isn't enough to run to the ceiling.

you need these three items for a total of ~$50

plug the usb extension into your pc then the hub into the extension. run the hdmi extender inline with the hdmi cable. you might need a regular extension cord so you can run it to the usb hub power adapter.

I'm using a combination of these 3 items. I have the 10ft usb extension plugged in to my PC, connected to the USB Hub, followed by the headset. The USB Hub needs an outlet connection though.

Note that power can be pretty finicky with the WMR headsets and this setup doesn't work on my motherboard with a regular 3.0 port, and I'm actually using one of those red colored usb 3.1(?) ports that can provide extra power.

10ft USB Extension

USB Powered hub

HDMI 10ft

I use this

https://www.amazon.com/CableCreation-Extension-Extender-Booster-Compatible/dp/B0179MXKU8

going into one of these using the included power supply

https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Individual-Switches-Included-HB-UMP3/dp/B00TPMEOYM

HMD is then plugged into that. Have used those for almost a year without an issue. Admittedly it's a pretty ugly solution as the resulting bundle of HDMI, USB, extension/power cord is kinda hefty. I use a wire suspended pulley system and had to put extra support on that section. From what I've read on here your results may very as it really depends on your hardware specifics, but good luck and I hope this helps.

  1. OTG Cable- https://www.amazon.com/AuviPal-Micro-USB-Cable-Power/dp/B07FY9Z9GD
  2. Any powered USB Hub will work fine. Non-powered one will also work for low power devices like pendrives. The Hub that i use is not available on amazon. Instead you can use any Powered USB Hub like this for example- https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Individual-Switches-Included-HB-UMP3/dp/B00TPMEOYM
  3. USB to Ethernet adapter - Use any
  4. USB Storage/Pen Drives/HDD - All USB storage must be in FAT32 Format. Otherwise it will not get detected. Note: HDD will require external powered USB Hub.
  5. Keyboard- Any wired or Wireless Keyboard/mouse should work that has USB receiver. I use Logitech MX900.
  6. Gamepad/Controller- I use Microsoft Xbox 360 Wired Controller.

That's 9 feet of extension but I don't see why longer wouldn't work, the main thing like you said is to have the powered USB hub

Side note, the Link Box looks dope but I need a place to plug in my keyboard and mouse too so it's better for me to have the full USB hub
