Not even entry level.

Pyle = Pile of garbage.

Buy something used locally or just get an SMSL SA-50. It is extremely barebones, but produces an honest 30 watts a channel, which is good for the price point.

That makes sense. I'm surprised they wouldn't clarify that on the store page, though. If you want to see what I'm talking about- the Amazon page states (Please note:this amp cannot work with subwoofer) in the product details.

Do you think a Dayton SUB-1000 would be okay? Also, if you don't mind, could you please give me your thoughts on whether or not I should get a DAC with all of this?

One last question- for high-level input, do I need to buy any additional adapters or specific kind of wire? Sorry, I'm not very familiar with what that is, and have a very shallow understanding based on a brief Google search. Is the same speaker wire I was planning on using for the MB24x's sufficient?

I would use 2 echo dots each connected to its own amp

This works pretty good...

Set up echos with the names outside 1, and outside 2 and also create a group with both then you can use the alexa app to play music remotely and have controll over the volume!

How much space are you working with?

JBL LSR 305s go on sale (not currently) in that <$200 range but are large. The Edifier 1700bt are the same sound as the 1850s but without added features. If you don't mind a few more cables...then you could also grab this SMSL amp and a nice pair of bookshelf speakers. Look at /r/budgetaudiophile for recommendations and reviews. I'd also look at CL or marketplace to see what is out there.

So I've gathered you've got a computer... and you've connected this through USB to the Topping MX3. You probably use this to listen through headphones as well as your Q Acoustics speakers.

So the Topping MX3 is doing three things for you:

 • USB Audio DAC
 • Headphone Amplifier
 • Power Amplifier (Speakers)

Right now you have just one device that is doing everything... but you can buy separate devices and connect them together to achieve the same. To make things even more complicated... if you don't care about using headphones or USB audio, you can just buy a device that drives your speakers from the line out on your computer.

Something like this is probably not enough for your specific speakers... but it's just an example. If you can tell me exactly what you want to do... I can point you at some options.

Hi I’m a person from the future.

Maybe you know the answer. I just set up my office similar to OP’s today, gaming pc and a Mac mini for work. All connected to the same monitor, using even the same usb switcher (although I like the one you linked more).

My question is I current have this amp since I have speakers that need to be powered: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F0H8TOC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fab_Hs.HFbSCM170D. It’s currently plugged into my Mac mini’s headphone port but I want to plug it into my PC so I can use my speakers when I switch inputs. Do you know of a way I can connect both computers to the one amp? Or maybe I need a usb powered amp and connect them both that way?

I see. Speaking of passive speakers, I'm getting good price on wharfedale diamond 220, would they run with a 50-70 watt mini-Amp that may come for $50-80 (like SMSL SA 50) SMSL SA 50

for this budget I would start with just a 2-channel. you can pair it with a simple amp for now like this https://www.amazon.com/SMSL-50Wx2-TDA7492-Amplifier-Adapter/dp/B00F0H8TOC or the Lepai 2020TI for even cheaper.

receivers are still very overpriced due to the 'rona, which killed the refurbished market. you used to be able to get a receiver supporting 4k and HDR for <200 bucks refurbished. it's no longer the case, so unless you get lucky and find one used locally or on ebay, I would skip it for now since you won't be doing 5.1 on that budget anyway, and just stick with a cheap amp and buy the receiver later when hopefully prices have come back to normal.

I'd go with an SMSL SA50 and a pair of Micca OoO speakers. That amp is good, and the speakers are tall and skinny, which would be nice since you don't have a ton of room. They're also great speakers for the price in my opinion.

Here, check out something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/SMSL-50Wx2-TDA7492-Amplifier-Adapter/dp/B00F0H8TOC

Feel free to look around at other "Class D" amplifiers that have an analog input, there's a lot of them, with varying reviews. I've had pretty good luck with SMSL stuff.

Depending on the speakers, it won't be powerful enough to drive them to super duper loud volumes, but it will work just fine. All you'll need is speaker wire to connect your speakers to this little amplifier, and a "headphone plug" (TRS - Tip, ring, sleeve) cable to connect your audio out on your laptop to the input on the back of the amp. It also has RCA connectors so you can connect any other standard analog audio device.

I assume that by "everything" you mean your logitech speakers as well as the old speakers? I hope not, as they won't be necessary.

if you use the USB connection, the amp will show up as an audio device on your computer, and this will use the onboard DAC in your SMLS, and be bypassing your sound card.

if you use the Aux 3.5mm analog input, you will still be using your sound card like you were before.

assuming you were pleased with the fidelity of your sound card before, there's no real advantage to using the usb input, but you should listen to both inputs back and forth to make sure you don't find the usb input more clear.

that being said, you did spend more money for the USB DAC feature. so if you're not planning on using it, you can get a simpler amp from SMLS for fewer money...

Now you have the choice between passive or active speakers and bookshelf or tower speakers. This decision is 100% up to you, for your budget I would recommend passive bookshelf speakers with an class AB amplifier. I like to recommend amplifiers from Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo and Marantz, which still gives you plenty of options for speakers (KEF Q150 for example).

You could also blow all your budget on speakers (Focal Aria) and get an inexpensive amplifier (SMSL SA50)

I'd go with micca mb42x, micca OoO pair, or Dayton mk402x. With a mini amp like this https://www.amazon.com/SMSL-50Wx2-TDA7492-Amplifier-Adapter/dp/B00F0H8TOC?ref_=ast_bbp_dp&th=1&psc=1

Or this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00F0H8TOC/ref=psdcmw_537344_t3_B01M0SL7YC

The micca mb42x and the Dayton mk402x price let you also buy some isolation pads for the speakers to sit on your desk.

This is a pretty good amp to pair with these speakers.

Get speaker wire too.

It's really easy to setup. Just use scissors to cut wire to the desired length and then connect red and black on each speaker to red and black on the amp.

Hi, semi noob question (that I tried searching for).

I'm in the process of building out a hardware synth setup to compliment my Ableton projects. I just purchased a Focusrite 8i6 which has 4 balanced TRS line outputs on the back. My current audio setup is a bit atypical as I'm driving a pair of JBL bookshelf speakers so I have to have a powered amp in between (I'm planning on upgrading/adding actual monitors in the near future, but these are what I had before I embarked on this journey).

My amp has RCA inputs so the guy at the store told me to buy a TS to RCA cable. Everything sounds fine, no noise that I'm detecting and since 50 watts on the amp is far more than I even need in my bedroom studio I barely ever turn it up past 40% on the dial. Am I going to have any problems? The audio routing program that comes with the Focusrite didn't bat an eye at the cable setup and just assumes I'm sending stereo out via the two outputs I'm plugged into.

I mistakenly bought a balanced cable for my synth before reading that running TRS from an unbalanced out will cause me a significant loss in signal db. Since the situation is actually reversed with my speakers I'm assuming I'm not losing anything.

Appreciate any clarification that can be provided. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I'm not too versed on using passive speakers for the computer. You would need something that could be used with passive speakers. If you have a DAC already, you can get an amp like this. Or you could get a DAC/amp combo like this.

Or if you want to keep it super budget and have an old home theater lying around, just get a DAC and hook it up to the home theater amp.

I don't think it gets much cheaper than an SMSL SA50 ($72) and a basic DAC ($14).

The Polk T-15's do not sound good. Avoid. I haven't even heard the JBLs and I can, with near certainly, tell you that they sound better than those horrid Polks. And I own a pair of Polks.

Also, the DAC/Amp you found will not power passive speakers, although it will send unbalanced signal via RCA to powered monitors. You could send signal from the DAC into something like this little budget guy.

If you want to spend as little as possible on new stuff, but want it to be good, then you want the all-in-one Topping MX3, and a set of Boston Acoustics A25. Around $200 total, and you get headphone amp, DAC, speaker amp, and solidly built, nice sounding speakers.

A receiver is an amplifier. It just means it has a radio receiver built in (stereo receivers) and/or video circuitry (AV receivers).

If its just for a desktop then you dont need anything powerful. Something as simple as the 25 watt SMSL SA-50 is going to work very well.

yeah it's pretty bad. I mean that doesn't mean you won't enjoy it or can't use it... but this was a store brand cheerios level system when it came out originally and has not aged well as modern systems have gotten even better.

If you want to keep it simple...

this and this for $110 https://www.amazon.com/Micca-MB42-Bookshelf-Amplifier-Turntable/dp/B009IUIV4A/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=micca+mb42&qid=1591543669&sr=8-2

Or step it up a bit https://www.amazon.com/Micca-MB42X-Bookshelf-Speakers-Tweeter/dp/B00E7H8GG2/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=micca+mb42x&qid=1591543693&sr=8-3

you'd be way way better off with mb42's + budget new amp or used cheap AV receiver from craigslist/fb market.

I'm looking to replace a Logitech z623 2.1 system at my computer with a set of bookshelf speakers, but am unsure if the amps I have been looking at paring with it will work.

The speakers I will be getting are the Fluance SX6.

Ideally, I would like to get an amp with an output for a subwoofer in case I ever decide to add one back into the setup, but I'm unsure if using such an amp without a subwoofer will impact the quality of the sound produced by the bookshelf speakers. The 2.1 channel amp I was looking at is the Fosi Audio TB20A and the alternative one I was looking at is the SMSL SA50.

If anyone with some experience can let me know their opinions, I would greatly appreciate it! I am very new to the world of premium audio so I am still a bit lost and would appreciate any additional advice as well if there is something I have overlooked. Thanks!

That really depends on how much you want to spend. I allways recommend going for passive speakers and a separate amp, i found it to just be better imo.

If you want something around 200$, a pair of Micca MB42X and a AMP like the SMSL SA50 will be good enough for most people, you can add a separte sub down the line, like this Polk PSW10

If you are someone who prioritizes aesthetics, take a look at the Kanto YU4 line up, they are pretty decent and are often on sale.

Vanatoo t0 are probably the best speakers out there with a small form factor and they also output quite a bit of bass which is surprising for such size.

I never messed around with cheaper stuff than that so I cant really recommend anything below that price point but im sure you might be able to find something cheaper. r/BudgetAudiophile is a place you wanna visit if you need help.

No problem. Shortners get automatically deleted.

To remove trackers just remove everything after ".html".

For Amazon remove everything after the ASIN#.

For example "B00F0H8TOC" is the ASIN# and everything after is removed:

https://www.amazon.com/SMSL-50Wx2-TDA7492-Amplifier-Adapter/dp/B00F0H8TOC/

Or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F0H8TOC/ without the product name.

Do not limit yourself to a powered speaker that has Bluetooth, if you want quality sound. Buy speakers and an amplifier to drive them. You can get a Bluetooth Dongle if you wish for any amp:

I've had only good experiences using a couple different "Class D" (or "Class T") amplifiers with Chromecast Audio etc, they can be had for \~$70 off Amazon from a variety of manufacturers. Mine (from SMSL) were always cool to the touch, so I left them on all the time just fine. However I'm not aware of many with optical input so you'd be looking at RCA (a short 90deg cable does the trick)

It looks like there are higher-featured Class D amps with bluetooth and Toslink etc, but the first one I found is above $100. I haven't tried these more complex ones. (Edit: looks like this cheaper SKU of that listing still does optical, so it's closer to your price range. I suppose a matter of what wattage you're looking for. The listing says that it's pure-digital, no DAC involved, instead it uses an ADC to support RCA input)

Best of luck, I hope you find what you're looking for.

Looking at the SMSL SA-50, it looks like an RCA input, just hard to confirm, so I would need another from my passive amp to that? https://www.amazon.com/SMSL-50Wx2-TDA7492-Amplifier-Adapter/dp/B00F0H8TOC?th=1 or with any other amp for that matter.

Doing a little bit of research it does look like the SA-50 does give mixed reviews, but for the 3020, not the i version. Would it be worth shipping out the extra \~40 for something like a topping PA3 ? https://www.amazon.com/TOPPING-Desktop-Digital-Amplifier-Black/dp/B071WNH6KL

Lastly, do cables matter that much? would it be okay to get amazon basics premade Banana plugs for these? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FDB34ZR/ref=vp_d_pb_TIER3_trans_lp_B071WNH6KL_pd?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07FDB34ZR&pd_rd_w=Zwyyf&pf_rd_p=3b47a25b-2625-4bff-9b6a-c9af28f12539&pf_rd_r=1c675d6c-081a-42d8-987e-5ebd3a3117dc&pd_rd_r=1c675d6c-081a-42d8-987e-5ebd3a3117dc&pd_rd_wg=UdvkD

Sorry for all the questions, still fairly new. Deeply appreciate it <3
