Probably something cheap with blue switches, like the Redragon K552. There are clickier switches, but for more money

Here's this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019O9BLVY/ref=ox_sc_act_image_4?smid=AXZ7TDMJNMJSZ&psc=1 Bought it last week ago, it's amazing
Uses Outemu Blue switches but I don't really care about em, they've been great for me gaming except GTA 5 flight controls on my friend's old gaming rig (trust me it's hard to fly without a numpad but I've gotten hang of it with my mouse)

Redragon K552 was my intro to mechanical keyboards and I liked it a lot. Very basic but really hard to beat the price. RGB is solid too. I added pudding keycaps and it was beautiful honestly.

the board itself is like $40. If he had enough money for a better board he'd buy different caps.

I'm looking to upgrade from my Logitech g105 and I've never had a mechanical before. I see that Amazon has the RedDragon K552 Outemu Blue on sale, is this a good babby's first? I don't have the money/time to invest in putting a board together myself yet.

60% (Red Switch) or TKL (Blue Switch)
In general:
Gateron/Cherry Red = Linear (no bump)
Gateron/Cherry Blue = Audible click + Tactile bump
Gateron/Cherry Brown = Tactile bump
I'm sure that these boards that I linked have different switches available.

I understand you're looking for a new board, giving us an idea of the size you want, functions, etc could be more helpful in the future.
At the price range you're going for you're going to have several options, most of them being Outemu Blue switches.
In this case, I'll offer you a go to option I generally recommend to typists who are looking for a nice, solid, and decent feeling keyboard for people who want something clicky.
AUKEY 87-Key TKL (RGB)
This is one of my favorite budget boards, especially over my top which is a Redragon K552-RGB 87-Key TKL, difference is in the housing, pricing, and construction of the board.
It's all up to you, but these are what I can recommend without knowing the size you are looking for.
1 points • Tyler2FTW
40 dollars is way too tight of a budget to get the things you want. Hot swap full size boards are harder to find than any other size and it'll be especially hard to find at that price. Your best options would be the gk61. if that's too much, reddragon makes a 45 dollar board that's close to your budget but isn't full size, or they make a 60 dollar full size .
These are good entry level boards but you really get what you pay for. Higher quality switches and chassis materials are gonna be way more worth the purchase because if you buy the right things, the board can last you forever.
Good luck finding the board for you!

At $60, I'm not sure you're going to get a decent mechanical keyboard. I suggest you take a look here: https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=27&sortby=price:asc
I've sorted it by price. Ignore the GMMK options at $69; they require switches and keycaps to be bought separately. You can see from this list that decent complete mechanical keyboards start at around $90.
If you must absolutely stay within $60, I recommend that you hop on amazon and do some searching. For example, you'll find some super budget keyboards like this: https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-K552-RGB-Mechanical-Keyboard-Construction/dp/B019O9BLVY
Just read the reviews and make sure the flaws and risks are acceptable to you. Otherwise, you can also stick to big brands like Corsair, Razer, and Logitech, but they're going to be a bit over your budget as well.
Edit: For clicky, look for Blues. Greens if you want something heavier.

Reddragon also has a TKL, the K552.
Red switches(Linear switch that needs less force to press) @ $35: Link
Blue switches (Loud/clicky with tactile feedback)@ $40: Link
I'm using the first revision (as far as I can tell the only difference is mine has only red LED's for backlight, where that one is rainbow) and it works great, highly recommend it.
For a mouse, the logitech G502 is currently on sale on amazon for $40 as well, and I've heard good things about it. Link

I just bought one of these for my boyfriend. For the K552 there’s only a K552-RGB and a K552-KR. We spent a lot of time looking at Redragon boards and never saw one advertised as an RGB1 variant. Just the RGB and Rainbow RGB (the KR).
The K552- RGB has customizable RGB, it’s a little tedious since it’s all onboard rather than with a software but there are instructions on the top review on how to configure it. There are only 9 different colors to choose from, so you can’t pick some very specific hex color for your keys but it’s still an okay budget board for basic customizing if you’re into that.
There is also a white version of the K552-RGB
TheK552- KR is NOT customizable. There are 19 different modes to choose from but you can’t make certain keys one color like with the other one.
Just to be sure you’re getting the right one, I’d just order from Amazon.

Are there many diferences between the redragon k552, k553, or k561 the only differences i can find are the k553 and k561 use software, and the k552 doesn't. And for no real reason I like having software, so those 2 look pretty nice compared to the k552. They all use outemu blues if I read things correctly

I have an LG - 34WL500-B monitor, that's what I use for my PS4, and I have a trash keyboard and mouse, I'm thinking I'll use the Logitech G305 mouse and Redragon K552-RGB keyboard once the PC is up and running. I don't know exactly what speakers they are but I have a Logitech pair of speakers, just plugs into a headphone jack. They're fairly old but they work.

Overall build looks good, I would definitely have a larger ssd if possible I found this one from ADATA SSD for just $6 more with 240gbs, also for a keyboard I would go with from Redragon my friend uses that one and loves it. Finally For the mouse you really can’t go wrong with the Razer Deathadder and which also has a pretty good deal going on right now.

Thanks! I love color coordinating my peripherals so they match.

At this price point, you should either get him a budget one, which is really about the same as getting him a 100 dollar one. Or you should spend a little more, and get him the very best on the market. it's your choice, really. If you're going the first route, the amazon's choice Redragon K552 is a great choice:
It actually packs more features than the logitech one. I only recommended logitech for its minimalistic look and quality. if you don't care for the look, don't go logitech. There are other brands out there that have the same quality (like redragon), have more features, and costs less. The one I linked above is only 50 bucks, and is spill proof and has a metal base construction, along with all the other pros of the logitech one.
RGB, loud and clicky switches, and a spill-resistant, metal construction. Everything a kid could want, at a reasonable price.
Now, if you're going to go with the very best, some of them could be had at your 130 dollar price.
The Steelseries Apex 7 Tenkeylesss is simply one of the best TKL keyboards available. it features an OLED display, to show game stats or anything you want, and comes with your choice of switches, red, brown or blue. It also has a ful-metal base, and comes with a magnetic, soft-touch wrist rest, for ergonomics. It also comes with media controls and a scroller bar in the top right, for easy access and control of music and other settings. And of course, full, RGB, per-key lighting, changeable and fully customizable with Steelseries' special-made program. It's also the same price as the logitech one you wanted, with ten times more value.
You can see more about it here:
https://steelseries.com/gaming-keyboards/apex-7
If you want the best, get this one.
Now, a disclaimer. Most variations of switches feel about the same, from Outemu to MX blues, and ESPECIALLY to a child. The rgb would matter more. You're buying a very expensive keyboard for him to play what is essentially a child's game. He wouldn't be able to make full use of all the features, and most likely would not appreciate the quality of the switches on a very expensive board. However, get him the steelseries one and it will last him until college, no problem. It's enough for gaming, streaming, video editing, and all. The redragon will last just as long, but lacks many of the features that makes the Steelseries one future-proof. Of course, as with any other purchase, the more money you spend on a quality product, the longer it'll last, and the better of a time you'll have with it.
I hope this helped your decision!

I personally never heard of the Drevo Calibur, its not available in my country or in any site that has cheap shipping (Amazon charges shipping PLUS importing taxes, that more than double the value of what you buy there, therefore nobody buys from it).
But... that board is closer to a 65% than to a 60% (because it has arrows and a couple of navigation keys). In that case there are other cheaper options than TKLs, and I have some saved because it was of my interest once as well (eventually got myself a 60% and got used to it).
Theres only one thing about it, I'm not 100% sure the HyperX keycaps would fit in it. By looking they seem compatible but I don't have trained eyes for it. Maybe some people in Discord would be able to tell you. If you really want that keycaps I would go for something more conservative, but you can always look into 65% options that have a standard layout, but that requires knowing the size of shifts, space bars, function keys, etc. And I'm not really good at it (thats why I ended up with a 60%, its just simpler).
If you want to look into it, check these:
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=5461
A really cheap TKL just in case: https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-K552-Mechanical-Keyboard-Equivalent/dp/B019O9BLVY
Cheap RGB 65% option, but I don't think the right shift is compatible https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-k6-wireless-mechanical-keyboard?variant=31440990109785 (this is its layout, if you can find the HyperX pudding layout you could compare, I couldn't find it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uWzfiYG3xZFiP12KC4iFUk1UxIcSKd64/view)

I really hate keycap layouts, otherwise I would have a 65% instead of a 60%.
But hope some of this helps.

So here are 2 different suggestions for monitors. One is a 1440p 60 hz (can get to 75hz if you use the displayport) 27" IPS monitor. Since you play open world games, I think it's nicer to have a monitor with great color reproduction and increased resolution for better graphics detail. Your 1660 ti should drive games just fine at 1440p 75hz - but it is pricier. The other is a 1080p 144hz 24" IPS monitor - more affordable, still IPS for great colors.
|Type|Item|Price| |:-|:-|:-| |Monitor|Acer V277U bmiipx 27.0" 2560x1440 60 Hz Monitor|$219.99 @ B&H| |Monitor|Asus VP249QGR 23.8" 1920x1080 144 Hz Monitor|$159.00 @ Amazon| |Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts||| |Total|$378.99|| |Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-02-23 22:04 EST-0500|||
As for keyboards, here's a few suggestions based on price ranges; wasn't sure what type of switches you liked, so these are a bit all over the place (red, brown, blue switches):
- Redragon K552 with blue switches @ $42
- G.Skill KM 360 TKL with MX red switches @ $49
- HyperX Alloy FPS Pro TKL with MX red switches @ $69
- Ducky One TKL with side print keycaps, variety of switches @ $89
There are a bunch more options you can view at mechanicalkeyboards.com, but they mainly only have keyboards over $100; wasn't sure if that was within your budget.
