Not really worth blowing $400 on an X570 board right now while prices are inflated, when a good B450/X470 will run any processor up to like a 3950x just fine.

Quick question, my friend wants to get this motherboard but we aren’t sure if it supports 3rd gen ryzen CPUs out of the box. Anyone know if this particular one does?

r/buildapc • comment
1 points • XreaperDK

I'll consider the CPU switch.

Wouldn't changing from an M.2 NvMe to a SATA SSD be slower and a downgrade? But i didn't know about the TLC vs QLC difference. I'll definitely get a TLC one regardless now that I've looked it up, thanks.

And yah, I remember there was something on that Motherboard I wanted for an idea that I had a while ago, that I ended up scrapping (support for 7+ SATA drives. You can see why I scrapped that dumb idea early on). I just never switched it out for a cheaper option when I scrapped that idea. I'm thinking of the ASUS ROG Strix B450-F now. $126.99

And I have moral/ethical issues with purchasing the "cheaply obtained" keys, so I'm gonna forgo it. Stupid morals getting in the way of a good deal.

There's a processor + motherboard bundle on amazon for $297.98 that comes with the Ryzen 3600 and a ASUS ROG Strix B450-F motherboard. Is that a good motherboard or should I just opt for the Tomahawk?

Yea they recently messed up one of my orders too in a really weird way. I’m going to avoid them from now on.

Try this: ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming Motherboard (ATX) AMD Ryzen 2 AM4 DDR4 DP HDMI M.2 USB 3.1 Gen2 B450 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FKTZC4M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nh77EbP0GJZBZ

Hmm, makes sense - I may shoot for Asus instead for this reason.

Do you think a B450 would be compatible?

Something like this?

Hey guys, just a quick question, I'm trying to make my first build, and was checking out motherboards, found the asus rog strix b450-f gaming (amazon link here for reference) https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07FKTZC4M/ref=ox_sc_act_image_13?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 and I was wondering if it would fit a ryzen 7 3700x out of the box, since I don't have enough budget to buy another if BIOS update is needed, nor I have any tech centers where I can go, appreciate your help

First time PC builder and have had a hard time finding motherboards compatible with third generation Ryzen (Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core 12-Thread). I pulled the trigger on this motherboard because it was in stock for a limited time: ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming Motherboard (https://www.amazon.com/ROG-Strix-B450-F-Gaming-Motherboard/dp/B07FKTZC4M).

However, that motherboard only says it's compatible with 2nd generation Ryzen while some say it will work with 3rd gen Ryzen out of the box. What do you all think?

For reference, I bought 32GB DDR4 3200 RAM, 250GB SSD Samsung 970 Evo, MSI VGA Graphics card.

I would really appreciate any input :)

Also, you need a good powersupply and a large case to fit all these.

Ding ding, we have a winner! Definitely worth the extra $75 IMO. 2070 Windforce for $399 is damn competitive...

OP, I think you should strongly consider this route. You won't have to deal with AMD's driver issues on the 5600XT and that extra 2GB of video memory will go a long way with modern games.

Only change I'd consider is spending the extra \~$8 on the ASUS STRIX B450-F if you can get passed the "gaming" aesthetic. You'd have more M.2 support if needed and I think ASUS's BIOS is significantly better than MSI's but I've had a lot of bad experiences with MSI so I'm a bit biased.

I have received very mixed information on whether or not the ASUS - B450-F motherboard will work with a ryzen 7 3700x. The Asus website says it does, but all of the comments on the amazon listing say otherwise. The link from the Asus website also does not lead to the main listing for the B450 mobo. This is the link from Asus, and this is the link I see everywhere else. Are they different? Does only one support ryzen 7 3700x?

you should change your motherboard for future overclocking or future upgrade . the heatsink on the mboard that your buying is kinda small look into these asus motherboard gigabyte aorus you just need to do a bios update so it can be compatible with 3000 series

One more question, as I was looking on Amazon at the parts, this motherboard came in a package with the CPU. Would it be worth considering? Much of a difference from the one you suggested?

So, i've found 2 decent Motherboards, both optimized for gaming. It all comes down to money, and which one will do me the better in the long-run. Here are the options. They are both B-450 Motherboards.

Okay cool. Just to be clear, is your monitor a 144 Hz monitor? Because obviously not being able to maintain 144 FPS doesn’t matter as much if you’re only using a 60 or 120 Hz monitor.

As for your upgrades, you could either go Z390 with a 9700K or 9900K, which is gonna run about $550-700, or you could go Ryzen 3700X (8-cores, 16-threads like the 9900K, little slower clock speed) with a solid B450 motherboard for about $450, or you could go all out and spend about $700 on a Ryzen 9 3900X (12-core, 24-thread monster of a CPU) and a nice X570 board. I think all of these paths will get you to 144 Hz at 1080p, so as someone who tries to get what I want for the cheapest price possible, which also considering you only play fortnite, is also probably the way to go, I’d go Ryzen 7 3700X with an ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F Gaming motherboard.

Are you planning to upgrade CPU in the next year or so? If not I would actually recommend scaling down your mother board to a B450 such as (https://www.amazon.com/ROG-Strix-B450-F-Gaming-Motherboard/dp/B07FKTZC4M/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=sl1&tag=ngmr-20&linkId=f4dd0644d3b3a1d29f161a346be86569&language=en_US) or a https://www.newegg.com/msi-b450-tomahawk-max/p/N82E16813144267?Description=b450%20msi&cm_re=b450_msi-_-13-144-267-_-ProductBoth great boards in my opinions, i personally have the Strix with a ryzen 5 3600 as well.

You could spend the $50ish somewhere else such as a better cooler if you plan to over clock which works just fine on the Strix board, or even putting it towards the new 3070s coming out from a board partner such as Asus. The board partner cards will undoubtly be a little more expensive than FE versions.

Just my two sense, I could be wrong and you do need the x570 lol whether it be for the wifi, new chip set, or Gen 4 PCI - E ! Good luck man!

This one is the best all around bored, however this is not retail price and this one is hard to find currently due to what's going on (you can find these at best buy) if you can find one then grab it (cost 115ish)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WF6ZQST/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa__ozskFbBTV7A5Z

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GRNSWNR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YAskFb2V199XM

this one is also nice as well and coming in at 110 it's pretty good ( tho if something happens and you need to return/ RMA it then I've heard that gigbyte services are dogshit so take what you will about this one )

Lastly if you got some extra cash then this one is pretty nice hover it's alittel bit pricey but still very good bored and will last https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FKTZC4M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_SCskFbDZWXK3G
