Right. You save so much money. Just bought a new gaming laptop last month. Way better investment that valentines day nonsense.

Sweet little machine:

Upgradable too, open 2.5" bay for another drive and additional ram slot to throw in another chip

I'm a Engineering student and I'd steer clear of macbooks for CAD related stuff. Or for gaming, or streaming, hell, not even for an expensive doorstop. God, I hate Macs.

For real though, if you're wanting something that will last and not break the bank, go with a decent Windows. Something like the Asus TUF505 is good for covering all basic bases. Plus, last I checked, Amazon had it for under 750.

Edit: $660

Hello! I’m getting a Asus TUF fx505dt laptop and was curious if it’ll be able to run all the C&C games (mainly Yuris, and Tib Sub)?

It’s a budget gaming laptop that I’ll be using for work and some light gaming. The only games I’ll be playing are all the games from the ultimate collection and the remastered RA. I’m curious what to expect in terms of performance.

here’s a link to it on amazon for the specs.

A good choice for a laptop that already has WiFi 6, but it isn't too powerful. For example, a gaming device like the ASUS TUF FX505DT is a good choice if you can upgrade it.

i wasn’t looking for anything too hardcore because i only really plan on using it for sims, skyrim and the occasional league game. This is what i got it could honestly do with a ram upgrade but it works pretty well and i don’t ever worry about it overheating as i don’t hear the fan too often, mostly just during loading screens like when you’re entering a save or going to the future, uni, or one of the WA worlds.

I don't know what is available in bestbuy, but if they have the asus tuf it would be a better option, higher refresh rate, cost less, and with better heat mangement and better battery life this is the one I am talking about.

They can range wildly in price depending on specs. You can get a decent, budget gaming laptop for around $650 USD.

I think most people would consider that the floor though for gaming, so the price would go up from there. You can find some good deals from Asus, Acer, Gigabyte, and a few of the other large manufacturers. Razer also makes interesting gaming laptops, but they essentially have a PC version of the Apple tax (though I'll admit to liking the 13" blade stealth).

I recommend giving a little more info. How much you intend to move around with it, what games you play, etc...

That all said, I really don't recommend laptops (and this is coming from someone who loves them) unless you absolutely need one for the portability. The gaming experience isn't as good, plus repairs out of warranty are expensive. Also the inability to upgrade doesn't make them viable for the long term.

If you are determined to get one, personally I like Gigabyte's stuff. They're powerful, have good features, and aren't overpriced. One problem they do tend to have (like most laptops) is they can get very loud when gaming. Fortunately they're pretty quiet when just doing normal tasks. The fan noise personally doesn't bother me since I game on ANC headphones -- but it is something to keep in mind.

You can get a much better laptop for your budget than the one you listed. Check out the Asus TUF FX505DT which is a great gaming laptop in your budget. It weighs less than 5 lbs so it is fairly portable and has a decent build quality. It is fully able to run older titles on max settings and some new ones on low to medium and get great FPS

i have a laptop with amd integrated graphics and then a nvidia 1650 gpu. in nvidia control panel i set the nvidia gpu as the preferred graphics for my laptop but when i run games like GTA V for some reason the integrated graphics shows its running at 60% usage but the nvidia gpu is only at 0-10% idk if i’m just not a good tech person but i feel like gta on max settings should be using more than 10% and also i’m confused on why both are running at the same time. additionally in windows settings i have the gta v exe running on high performance which is the nvidia gpu. if anyone could help me that would be awesome

Could you comment on this ASUS laptop? Seems like similar specs as yours. Can you comment on the build quality? Will it last me 2 or 3 years? Is it worth a ~$330 upgrade from my old one?

I’m a huge fan of Advanced System Care. The free version still puts all the upkeep tools you need in one place. The paid version does a little more, but honestly I rarely use the extras, I just keep the paid version on one computer so I can support iObit. Even the absolutely computer illiterate can run the quick scan for basic cleanup (except for my husband apparently).

I understand the laptop desire! I have a desktop, but if I’m perfectly honest I use my laptop way more! It makes me the scorn of the pc gamer community lol. To help your hunt I will say that even a lot of gaming rigs only have 8gb of ram. It’s also relatively cheap and easy to upgrade, even on a laptop. I’ll add a link to the one I’m looking at for my husband’s next upgrade. At 8gb it actually has less ram than his current one, but it has a dedicated graphics card with 4gb of graphics memory.

I bought this asus tuf fx505dt on black Friday and I love it it has a ryzen 5 3550h that I have been throughly impressed by this is a 4 cor 8 thread cpu at 3.7 ghz and is on par with intels i5 gaming laptop cpus and the laptop also has a 1080p 15.6 in 120htz freesync compatible screen that is amazing at the price point. It comes with easily upgradeable 8gb of ram and m.2 pcie nvme 256gb ssd with a spare 2.5 in hdd or ssd drive slot that comes empty but has the data cable included. It has a rgb backlit keyboard and a GTX 1650 GPU which is really great ot is a little less powerful that a 1060 and a little more powerful than a GTX 1050ti and I have been able to get 120fps in alot of games that aren't super heavy AAA super recent games by just turning down a few settings most stuff more that 2 or 3 years old can get 90 to 120fps easy by messing with settings and everything else runs at at least 60fps no problem one of the only downsides about this is it is a all plastic budget oriented laptop but it has been great honestly the laptop stays super cool under heavy load getting to 85c on the cpu at absolute max and only 1 or 2 time for 1 or 2 seconds and averages low 70s for most games and I have never seen the gpu get above 75c so sorry for the long rambling post but here is a link its 649.99 and worth every penny.

I wouldn't say super good deal, in fact I would say it was a bad buy, considering there are 120hz gtx1650 laptops that are $650 on Amazon. I would especially stay away from old hardware, let alone a used one (idk if this laptop is brand new or not). There are also gtx 1050ti laptops in the $500 range. There is also no warranty for your purchase, imo it was a pretty bad buy.

The G3579 has a GTX 1050 which is miles ahead of the Iris G7 graphics (120% faster) but isn't the best deal for $800. I think you can shop around and find better for the same price.

I think for $800 you can get a GTX 1650 (50% faster than GTX 1050, 200% faster than the G7) or a GTX 1650 Ti laptop. Next step up would be a GTX 1060 or GTX 1660 Ti, which are over $800 but you might be able to find something on sale

OP, how about this? But you'd have to upgrade the RAM to 16 GB later. First because 8 GB is a low amount and second because single channel reduces CPU performance. So you could buy this now, and later when your budget allows get a 8 GB stick and add it in order to have a total of 16 GB RAM.
