The "best" way is a dehydrator. The investment is worth it if you intend on storing long term and/or drying many fruits. Reputable growers on shroomery have time and time again debunked the idea that heat considerably reduces potency and asserted that the potency loss from the oxidation of the shrooms while people use alternative methods that are more time-consuming is considerable.

To be honest, when I started I bought the lowest cost Presto Dehydro with 4 extra trays and still use it to this day (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008H2OELY). It doesn’t have an adjustable temperature, heck it doesn’t even have an off switch. But based on my temp tags it holds a steady 140.

It’s still a workhorse and does the simple task of dehydrating food well. I’m sure I’ll eventually need to upgrade but so far I think I’ve spent $50 extra bucks to make it do everything I need.

Ok so that is small, but they grow fast once they start fruiting. The main goal is to get the water off the fruit as soon as it comes out. So you can do the ol Alton Brown box fan air filter thing, convention over at the absolute lowest temp and highest fan, or this modular but still bulky thing:

Any cheapo dehydrator that looks like this will work https://www.amazon.com/Presto-06300-Dehydro-Electric-Dehydrator/dp/B008H2OELY. Those are usually the cheapest ones.

I use one of these: Presto 06300 Dehydro Electric Food Dehydrator, Standard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008H2OELY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_A0HLFbZAVRXJV

Gets to about 70c. I place an empty spool in first and put the full one on top so it sits a little higher and is a touch cooler. Otherwise your pla, if you try that, my stick together a little. You can still print it tho. This is way safer than the oven idea

I bought the cheapest food dehydrator on amazon, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008H2OELY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then I made a drybox that is 2' square by 3' high. Circular hole at the bottom to accept the dehydrator, I also cut a round piece of foam to fit the unit. vent holes at the top. My filament all hangs inside, I also got a remote temp/hygrometer and the drybox reads 16% constantly, 51c. I also have a 55 ga lplastic barrel with a screw lid but haven't designed the filament "tree"yet, but I intend to keep the filament in there for long term storage with dessicant.

It's very humid where I am, so much I get water dripping from dessicant bags if left out. Can you imagine finding water on the floor and looking for the source only to find it coming from your dessicant?

Your heart's in the right place.

I know we all have less time than we'd like. At least you aren't throwing it in a landfill. Composting food is second from the bottom of the food recovery hierarchy. In terms of sustainability, composting edible food is only above just throwing it in the trash.

That old celery and onion can be boiled/simmered for an evening to make a lovely vegetable stock, which you can freeze in Tupperware or a mason jar if you don't have a pressure canner. If even that is too much time commitment, dehydrators are relatively cheap.

You can find a great dehydrator for well under 100$. It is a simple technology (blowing warm air) so it is hard to really mess up.

This thing is as simple and effective as just about any other dehydrator:

Looks like the last used ones must have been sold this afternoon. Just use the link in my other comment, they're not sold out everywhere. Or just get one at the store/at a thrift store.

depends on where you live. If you live in an arid desert climate like Arizona, New Mexico... Maybe even Colorado. Then you could probably lay them on screens. Probably don't want them in a greenhouse as you want good airflow on all sides.

If you live in Alabama, Georgia, etc... no chance they will dry before they rot. And heck even in a dry climate you might have issues.

I'd suggest buying a dehydrator. Cheap ones work fine. Square would be nice the cheap ones like I use are mostly round.

This one is $40

https://www.amazon.com/Presto-06300-Dehydro-Electric-Dehydrator/dp/B008H2OELY/

Then harvest once a week and fill the dehydrator. Should take 1-3 days to dry to crispy. I cut most of mine in half so the dry faster.
