PreSonus Eris E3.5 Because those cheap crummy logitechs wont hold a candle to actual audio production gear.

I use a pair of powered studio monitors. I don't know that I would consider them super portable, but these are plenty loud enough to push the RS volume over my guitar amp if needed.

I went with the Presonus Eris 3.5" https://www.amazon.com/PreSonus-Eris-E3-5-Professional-Multimedia/dp/B075QVMBT9

I think you've got some good options there. I almost went with Micca's and a simple amp, but at the end of the day for the type of casual listening I do, the Eris are enough. They're one less piece of kit I need or need to transport back to the states when I move.

I almost chose the Edifier Luna's, cause they look cool, but these were on sale and I could get them in two days and the Edifiers were sold out at the time.

I also moved across the world and already had my Schiit stack for serious listening on my headphones. I generally spend more on my headphone setup than speakers as I live in an apartment. So I just needed something that was "good enough" and didn't look like trash.

I'd like some help choosing a pair of budget monitors, sub $100 (around 9-10k Indian rupee, with taxes). I'll be using them mostly for audio production and gaming. I did check out Micca PB42X as suggested on the post but I haven't been able to find them in the Indian market. So as an alternative, I've got my eyes on Presonus Eris E3.5 and while they seem quite good for the price, I'd like to have some more options available before I finally buy one. I currently own a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro and a Behringer U-Phoria UM2 2x2.

I hope we are talking the same language here, because Monitors = also refer to small self powered bookshelf or studio speakers (especially in music/sound studio lingo, studio monitor means studio speaker).

If you have such monitors around, what do you mean you aren't getting any sound out? I think you already speculated about this in the OP, but PS3 indeed can output video from HDMI and audio separately from the AV port with basic PlayStation AV/RCA cables, from the white and red jacks.

Powered monitors typically always have RCA inputs.

For example, if something like this https://www.amazon.com/PreSonus-Eris-E3-5-Professional-Multimedia/dp/B075QVMBT9/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=monitor+speakers&qid=1602000110&sr=8-3 is out of your price range, then just stick with something solid like Logitech Z333. Not as good as dedicated active speakers/monitors, but they are fairly competent.

Yes, they 're price worthy for sure. As you can see they have 4,5 stars with about 700 reviews on Amazon so they are sure a good choice for the money. Also I would suggest you these ( https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-41M-Powerful-Detailed-Bookshelf/dp/B07FKH3VPV ) or these ( https://www.amazon.com/PreSonus-Eris-E3-5-Professional-Multimedia/dp/B075QVMBT9 ). All of them are totally price worthy.

Two routes you could take here: go with active speakers that have a built in amplifier, or go the passive route which would consist of two passive bookshelf speakers and some sort of subwoofer plugged into an amplifier.

With your price range, I'd probably look into something like Edifier Powered Bookshelf speakers or if space is an issue maybe try the PreSonus Eris 3.5's (I have a pair of these on my desk).

Can you tell us more about your setup? Is this for a living room or a desk? What about your source(s)- do you mostly play music from your phone or CDs? You've come to the right place!

I do own one but please look at my post so you won't have odd power on issues.

but the settings I use with my KRK 5s are

SBX OFF

Equalizer OFF

Speakers to direct stereo, Filters to fast roll off, Audio Quality to 32bit 192khz

don't use 382khz, a lot of games and programs don't use that sound frequency and you won't hear any audio.

And leave scout mode off.

This should give you the purest audio from the card. been having a good time with the sound from it. down the road I might upgrade the OP-AMPS to make the base more punchy and lows and mids more crisp. but all in all choose that and get a pair of these if you want to really get the best out of the card without busting the wallet on a set of monitors.

These are the cheapest monitors you can get that are on par with some high end monitors.

Help an audio noob understand...what makes these $150 Jamo S 801's so much better than Edifier R1280T or Presonus Eris 3.5 which sell for $100 at their non-sale price? (Not challenging, just asking out of curiosity and in the hopes of learning more about how to evaluate these.)

The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. They are available in several places and currently cheapest at Walmart.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Klipsch-ProMedia-2-1-THX-Computer-Speakers-Two-Way-Satellites-3-Midbass-Drivers-and-6-5-Subwoofer/591789309

Alternatively, you can go with something with a very flat accurate sound profile. They would be good for exposing flaws in sound mixing, but not particularly fun to listen to for movies, games, etc.

I just picked these up for $99 for the pair. Very compact and sound decent for the price. It did not come with standard RCA cables but instead RCA to mini jack. Luckily I have tons oof RCA cables laying around. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075QVMBT9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

Looking for advice and recommendation on my setup.

For the past couple of months, I've been focused on buying and gathering all the necessary equipment for my music production setup. I know that there is a lot more for me to still learn, but I've come a long way in terms of being able to afford many of the things which I need as well as the things that I want and prefer. I've seen plenty of current and outdated articles that provide varying levels of detail when it comes to this stuff, but I'm almost never quite sure if they're even trustworthy and just promoting a particular item because of a contractual deal rather than because it actually is good. And so, to that end, I'm hoping that many of the more experienced members here will be able to provide me with guidance and recommendations. But, before I begin listing stuff, I feel that it would be appropriate and helpful for you to understand a bit about myself and what I like so that you can more accurately direct your recommendations. :]

A bit of background info:

  • I'm an advanced pianist with over two decades of experience, so I very much prefer the level of tactile feedback and expression that weighted keys provide.
  • My favorite genres of music are Classical, Orchestral, Film Score/Cinematic, Jazz, Piano (all subgenres), Showtunes/Broadway, and just about all forms of electronic music with a particular preference towards EDM, Chiptune, Trance, Ambient, Techno, Disco, and Electro Swing.
  • My compositions will primarily be in the classical, orchestral, film score, and piano genres, but I also intend to explore the other ones I listed as well.
  • I have only a tiny bit of experience with DAWs - the only one which I have ever used before is FL Studio, but that was also a long time ago.
  • When it comes to equipment costs and prices, I'm definitely more concerned with quality. Granted, I've already had to bite a few expensive bullets due to the original midi controller I wanted being out of stock (which then had a domino effect on my choice of desks). Anyway, all I'm trying to say here is that I would prefer not to break the bank, but I'm definitely not afraid of taking a necessary hit if I need to.

Equipment that I currently have:

Equipment that I do not have:

  • Keyless midi controller
  • Please see questions and concerns number 1 for details.
  • DAW
  • Please see questions and concerns number 2 for details.
  • Shockmount for my microphone
  • I have one, but it's the one that came with my microphone and I think it might be shitty.

My questions and concerns:

  1. I'm very happy with my Midi controller keyboard (Kawai VPC1) but it has no mappable controls, such as knobs, faders, mod wheel, etc. So I would like to know what keyless Midi controllers you would recommend that I could use to map while using my sound libraries.
  2. For example, if I'm currently using a string ensemble, I would like to map the different articulations and effects that the library provides to a separate midi controller so that I could then adjust them while I'm playing.
  3. I'm not sure which DAWs would be best suited for the types of music which I intend to create. Because I'm going to frequently be creating large ensemble pieces, I want to make sure that the DAW that I chose won't limit me in this regard.
  4. Hardrive space is obviously an extremely important factor when it comes to sound libraries. I'd like to know what methods you would recommend for maintaining and handling this? External hardrives? And do you find yourself uninstalling libraries when you're not using them?
  5. I'm concerned that I'll need to buy a better audio interface if I'm going to have both another midi controller connected to it, as well as my sound monitors. Any particular recommendations?
  6. There are so many sound library companies that I just simply don't know where to really begin. All I know is that I want very high-quality orchestral and vocal libraries. Your thoughts and experiences?
  7. What online resources, such as podcasts, videos, blogs, articles, influencers, and experts do you tend to subscribe to for up-to-date info and recommendations?
  8. I currently only know of Sanjay C, but I'm sure that there are plenty of others who are equally if not more helpful.

Thank you! :]

If stereo sound isn't a need you might consider a single JBL LSR305 + echo dot. That will sound better than a home max.

If you want stereo look at these options.... All will sound better than those Edifiers. You would be adding a Dot to all of these.

Those will work together. The speakers are for desktop/computer listening or for a very tiny room. If you must get speakers that small, the Presonus Eris E3.5 are better speakers.

For a small to medium size room a good deal on sale is Sony STR-DH190 ~~$149~~ $99 with Bluetooth and a built in phono stage preamp with adjustable gain. With 5" Sony Core Series ~~$149~~ $75 speakers.

A bit better turntable is the Crosley C6 ~~$179~~ on sale for $123 to $146 that adds adjustable tracking force and replaceable cartridge over the LP60X.

Or save up for other better options. Fluance RT80 ~~$199~~ $175 with coupon code "FLUCAT". Adds auto stop and adjustable anti-skate. Audio-Technica AT-LP120X $249 is a step up from the RT80. Fluance RT82 ~~$299~~ $275 coupon code "FLUCAT" has much lower wow and flutter.

Or what is a nearby town or zip to search for used speakers and better vintage turntables?
