This is the one I have and it works great. I've recommended these to all my friends who complain about their wifi not being strong enough. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084CZMYNM?pf_rd_r=5Y0CZ25XJDVP4JZF40M9&pf_rd_p=edaba0ee-c2fe-4124-9f5d-b31d6b1bfbee

Fiber is going to be a pain because you would likely still have to terminate it on each end which takes training, expensive tools and expensive connectors.

What about something like this?

I don't think you'd have interference issues with CAT-6 cables, but it may violate electrical codes.

I recommend you try one of these little guys.

Powerline network adapters: https://www.amazon.com/Powerline-Ethernet-Adapter-Extender-TP-Link/dp/B084CZMYNM/

Need one at either end so make sure to get a 2pk like in the link rather than a single pack.

Alternatively you could use a powerline adapter. It uses your home's power lines to transmit date between one outlet to another.

Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Powerline-Ethernet-Adapter-Extender-TP-Link/dp/B084CZMYNM/ref=sr_1_3?crid=V1RPWFOX7WYU&dchild=1&keywords=powerline+ethernet+adapter&qid=1606845613&sprefix=powerline%2Caps%2C209&sr=8-3

I'm assuming you mean MG7550 since I can't find a SB7550: https://www.amazon.com/MOTOROLA-MG7550-AC1900-Gigabit-Maximum/dp/B01JGT2JI6

The MG7550 is AC1900, so you should be able to get at least 200-300mbps if your close to the router. So...

How close to the router are you? What speeds do you get right next to it on wi-fi?

If your not getting 200+ on Wi-Fi next to the AC1900 router, I'm inclined to think it's either a configuration issue or a client device issue.

Configuration issue: You have 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks, do they have the same name? If so, give them separate names and make your device connect to 5ghz. 80mbps is a sign it might be connected to the slower 2.4ghz network.

Client device issue: If you have a phone or tablet or something, a lot of times the Wi-Fi in them simply isn't capable of hitting 200+ because it would cost more to produce and there's really no benefit to a phone/tablet that downloads at those speeds (web pages load 0.001 seconds faster because most loading is rendering, thus CPU limited, and if you download at 300mbps, your gonna fill up your entire 64GB of storage in 30 minutes).

So, what device make/model are you using for speed tests so we can see what speed their even capable of?

If your connecting a computer, it probably has a slow wi-fi card (post make/model to verify) and you could either get a faster wireless dongle or you might consider powerline adapters: https://www.amazon.com/Powerline-Ethernet-Adapter-Extender-TP-Link/dp/B084CZMYNM/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=av1000&qid=1605478203&sr=8-1

I have this pair of powerline adapters for one of my PCs that is located in a room that gets insufficient wifi reception for gaming and is too far for ethernet. It’s not quite as fast as Ethernet at my router but works quite well regardless.

A power line adapter should do fine if your home is wired nicely. It works by plugging your Router into an power outlet via an adapter and then plugging in your computer into another adapter in a outlet in the room. Amazon link

If your connection speed says 40mb then you have a bad connection to the router. You are probably on the edge of the coverage for the router. It is probably disconnecting from the router and searching every time you get disconnected.

Yes, they use the power lines in your wall to deliver an Ethernet connection. They are not super expensive and can work really well.

I would highly recommend you try a powerline adapter.

There is always a way. If you really don't want to run a wire from A to B, try an ethernet over power device. It is better than wifi.

The AC LR is fine for gaming/streaming. I had a friend in a similar situation as you so I lent him my backup AC LR and his problems were gone.

You could also consider a powerline adapter if you can use a wire. I've used these in the past with good results.

Unless you're going for PCIe 4.0 it's better to go for the cheaper B450 instead when on budget.

B450 motherboards most if not all of them will receive Ryzen 5000 series CPU support around february next year correct me if I'm wrong.

You can use a powerline adapter which will provide a stable connection without the latency problems of Wi-Fi. Something like this will work: https://www.amazon.com/Powerline-Ethernet-Adapter-Extender-TP-Link/dp/B084CZMYNM/

They come as a pair and plug into a wall outlet and these adapters have an ethernet jack coming out of them to plug one side to the internet router box thing and the other to the computer.

You might consider getting a powerline Ethernet adapter like this. I went from 700kb/s to 8mb/s at my old house after I bought one of these. It could also be the fact most routers nowadays project a 2.4ghz, and a 5ghz signal, if the WiFi adapter is of lower quality, it might not be able to see the 5ghz. But wired (Ethernet) or a powerline adapter as mentioned above is the preferred way to go over WiFi if able

Would powerline ethernet adapters work in this scenario? You could wire it right to one of the pucks in the house and then another in the summer house to then wire to that puck.

Home Office Shed advice

Hi,

Looking for some advice on my setup.

I live in a split-level house with gigabit FIOS and three second gen eero pros and a beacon. None of these devices are hard wired to each other.

Ground level of the house is cinder block.

Putting in a home office shed this week about 50-60 feet from the shed. There's an existing shed on the far side of the new shed site that has the beacon.

Standing on the pad of the new shed and testing with an iPhone, I can get 50-90mbps. This is good enough, but the results are inconsistent, and I'd like to reliably get >150mbps out there.

I have a new Pro6, unopened, was intending to use this as a new gateway and move one of the existing pros out to the shed.

I have powerline adapters sitting around unopened

I have an extra 1" conduit run from the house to the shed, but not punched through the wall.

Questions

  • Do you think I can get the speeds I'm looking for just with the fourth eero and some creative repositioning? I will probably buy more Pro6's at some point soon.
  • Can I use the powerline adapter as a wired backhaul between an eero in the house and the eero in the shed?
  • If I get a couple of these and run fiber through that 1" conduit will that serve as a wired backhaul between an eero in the house and the eero in the shed?

I realize the fiber is the best option, but I am leery because I have never worked with fiber before and don't really know what I am doing, plus I am not thrilled at the proposition of punching another hole in the wall.

Also a little confused if I can just run a wire between two eeros and those two will talk over that and not the wifi, and everything else will keep using wifi as the back channel.

Thanks!

As others have posted, you'll insure best results if you configure the dedicated router as a 5GHz access point (AP) and locate it in the same room as the headset. "Dedicated" in this case means that the AP will have only one wireless client (the headset) and two cabled ethernet connections - one to your gaming PC and one for backhaul to your internet router. If your internet router is remote, that lengthy cable for backhaul can be an inconvenient.

I have been using a pair of cheap power line modems for backhaul with very good results (e.g. \~90 Mbps for two outlets on different circuit breakers):

You might instead try some powerline Ethernet adapters vs fiddling with ESXi and WiFi. I use a couple pairs around my place to get a wired connection and they work great. Just need to be sure to pair them up together on a power strip or something and plug them directly into the wall if you can help it when you set them up in their permanent homes.

If you’re set on running cable that’s fine, but if you want a cheaper alternative, I strongly recommend powerline adapters. They send signals over your AC lines. It’s not as good as running proper Ethernet, but it’s WAY cheaper and mine usually gets 70mbps, more than enough to stream 4K HDR to my TV.

I have a set from TP Link and they’re good. I’ve used other brands in the past with similar results.

Here’s an example: TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Starter Kit - Gigabit Port, Plug&Play, Ethernet Over Power, Nano Size, Expand Home Network with Stable Connections, Ideal for Smart TV, Online Gaming(TL-PA7017 KIT) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084CZMYNM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_d0zrFbRT6VMNH

Might be worth a try before you drops hundreds on cable drops if you don’t need super high speeds. Results vary based on your wiring, so make sure you get them from somewhere you can return them if they don’t work.

You could look into a powerline adapter. While not as great as a direct ethernet connection, it will be more reliable than a wifi connection (and probably cost less than a good wifi extender).

We have some clients that moved some staff to work from home.

We suggested the use of Powerline adapters to get an Ethernet connection to their router who didn't already have wired ports in their homes or easy to access to their router/modems.

Not sure if it will work in your situation, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Edit: example https://www.amazon.com/Powerline-Ethernet-Adapter-Extender-TP-Link/dp/B084CZMYNM/

Yes, you could try two things: 1. Powerline adapters, OR 2. MoCA adapters (Ethernet over coax)

In each case, you’d need two adapters, one to plug into a LAN port on your router and one in your room.

Powerline adapters are simplest but performance is a crapshoot, you don’t know how well they will work until you try them.

MoCA works great, faster speeds and low latency but it might be more work to set up (might have to figure out if the cables you want to use are live)

Maybe try a pair of powerline adapters first. You can get a pair with one of them as a WiFi extender, or both just wired

Two wired extenders:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084CZMYNM/

One WiFi:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HSQAIQU/

MoCA adapters (WiFi capable, capped at 100 Mbps):

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FKTMWDE/

Maybe read up on both technologies and decide what to try first
