You can use any battery power bank. Here's one that a little bit cheaper. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X5RV14Y/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_sg4NEbMXYX6QE
Also, gives you longer battery life once you plug it into the quest.
Was the best thing to make it so comfortable!

For Geocaching, you'll want to look at Garmin's eTrex, GPSMAP, Oregon and Montana lines. I have a GPSMAP 66 (that, over the last 18 years, has replaced 64/62/Oregon 450/60csx/eTrex). While it's a fine unit, I am finding that I use my iPhone 8 is fine and preferable unless I'm on a long-distance bike trip, where I've got the Garmin clipped to a handlebar.
For Geocaching, the GPS does take time to settle down - this would be analogous to turning on your Garmin. The drawback of a phone GPS is, when they're in high accuracy mode, it's a huge drain on the battery. The most cost-effective solution is to use an external battery pack (like this, though there are many options).
If you decide to go the Garmin route, try the touch screens in person. The screen on my Garmin 450 reacted differently enough from my phone that I found it annoy. When that unit died, I went back to old-school buttons. The eTrex was a nice unit that I would easily get a full day out of a pair of Eneloop (NiMH rechargeable) batteries.

Is this powerbank compatible?

So most phones need 3.7 volts to operate, but have some tolerances, so I’m thinking your particular phone can handle 3.7-3.8 volts and the 1250mah is how big the bucket is so to say. You want your battery to last longer right? So if you find a battery that is 3.7-3.8 volts and 2500mah it should work just fine and effectively doubling you capacity, (bigger bucket). The trick is always size, most “extended capacity” batteries made for phone have to maintain the same surface area so they fit, but usually are thicker. Now if you were just trying to extend the life forever and didn’t care what it looked like you could....buy this https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Charger-Anker-PowerCore-20100mAh/dp/B00X5RV14Y And rubber band that bad boy to your phone. Its basically a portable battery pack that can charge a phone. With a small charge cable connected you could extend you phone battery life times 20. So if you were getting 6 hrs before you could get 120 hrs with this.

Buy a charging brick, something like this, for example. You never know how long you'll end up being away from your room, so better safe than sorry.
-
Bring a streaming device or gaming console because some hotels have very limited choices for TV channels.
-
If you're going out of country, check what kind of outlet they use.
-
Download a bunch of audiobooks, podcasts, or music BEFORE getting in the plane, unless your plane has WiFi (if you want to pay for it, even though it's awful sometimes).
-
Unless you're renting a car or bringing your own, make sure your rideshare apps are working before you get there. Sometimes they're a huge pain in the ass to troubleshoot on the go.
-
If at all possible, get to the airport at least two hours before you depart. You can always take a nap between check-in and boarding, you won't be the only one doing it.
-
If you're going somewhere that speaks a language you aren't fluent in, download Google Translate beforehand. Even if you have people with you that know the language, better safe than sorry.

Oh, awesome! Thanks a bunch for the input! I'll get one and...this will save a lot of space, and the Bluetooth will help immensely...it's gets cramped trying to connect the Arduino to my computer
As far as power, I have yet to see any flickering, I do have 3 power supplies and they input power at 6 different locations (about 125-145 LEDs per input) as I can only run 2amps max per usb output (yes, the coat is heavy). I'm also running at 20% brightness. I did run tests and the most amps I saw was 1.4..but, now that I think about it, I didn't test voltage drop at the end of the strip, was more worried about the coat catching on fire. Anyway, I've been more worried about the soldering and wires getting loose. I did design and 3d print some 'securing devices' to hold the wires and led strip together, which has helped with my limited test. Big test is when I go out to the festivals...if that will ever happen again..
Big thing I did notice with the power, connecting the ground at the very end to the circuit got rid of a problem of the last 300ish leds fading.

This is what I use with mine, I know it's a little over $40 but it gets a couple charges in on the switch. Anker also has smaller capacity batteries that cost less that will work as well

Just one power bank charge over the 4~5 days! [This big boy.] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X5RV14Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) It charged my iPhone XS and the Osmo to full each night.

Thanks very much for all the detail and photos. I worried that adding a powerbank would just make my weight problem worse (I did see it mentioned a couple times), but I can see I was probably wrong.
I actually own this (https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Charger-Anker-PowerCore-20100mAh/dp/B00X5RV14Y/) already. Reading your post, it might be a little too heavy, but I'll try to get some padding and straps ordered and see where that gets me.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active, I use an Anker Powercore. I've had mine for a few years, so the specific model I have is outdated, but here's one that's close (a little better than mine but oh well):
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X5RV14Y/ref=psdc_7073960011_t1_B00N2T7U90
I tend to use the DL app, the Play Disney Parks app, Pokemon Go, and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite while I'm at the parks. So heavy usage. I can get two full charges and usually a full third charge out of my Powercore, even though it's older. So I'd totally recommend this brand to anyone.

Portable Charger Anker PowerCore 20100mAh - Ultra High Capacity Power Bank with 4.8A Output and PowerIQ Technology, External Battery Pack for iPhone, iPad & Samsung Galaxy & More (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X5RV14Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_QDx-Eb7BZCKKK
These Anker products are bomb proof! Used one paired with a lightweight solar panel when I hiked the Arizona Trail with a friend in 2017 and we charged both of our phones daily and never had to plug into a wall outlet for 30 days! 1 full charge would charge both our phones almost 2x.

Mines an Anker 20,000mAh and was $40 off amazon. Per the ad says 4.6 charges for an iPhone X. I have no complaints with it

Oculus Quest ideal counterweight/battery pack?
I've seen some cool mods like this elegant pop socket + battery pack combo that takes care of extra charge + counterweight in one go.
I'm looking to do this myself, and am hoping to get some input on ideal battery pack size or counterweight weight. In the link above, that person is using a 10,000 mAh battery which weighs 180g. Would a 350g 20,000 mAH battery be too heavy/big?

I haven't actually seen the commercial / ad so I don't know what is being advertised, but Anker has a ton of really solid battery banks in the $50 or so price range, and they go on sale a lot for about $20-30, so I would pick a model that has the features you want.
I've been using this one since 2016 according to Amazon and it's amazing, but it's a fairly old model, so there are a lot newer ones with USB C and qi charging etc

This might be a bit bigger than what you're looking for, but the case I'm using is the RDS Deluxe Travel Case (check eBay for them).
It has 3 compartments; one for the PSP (first one), one for other items, such as chargers or w/e (center), and the last for UMD storage (4 slots + mesh pouch, but you can probably cram about 8 inside if you try, I suppose) and other smaller items. You can also use the last compartment to hold memory cards if you've gone 100% digital.
Great for general storage if you don't often take it with you since you don't have to worry about misplacing any important/useful accessories if you need/want to put the PSP away for an extended period of time. It also works well if you have any space to spare in a larger bag if you're not the type to slide a PSP into your pockets. The center compartment can also fit a 20100mAh Anker power bank + USB cable for charging if you ever want to carry a power bank with you.
The best part is that it honestly isn't too large... It is roughly 3.5 x 5.5 x 7.5'.
Overall, I think it's a handy case if you're looking for something a little bit bigger than a case that's the same size as a PSP. Comes with a little strap too on top if you wanna carry it around or hook it to something. It's an all around nice case. I can post some pics if you'd like.

And this for a charger.

TPCast for the Vive uses a standard 20100mAh battery and lasts a good 4 hours (they claimed 6). I came imagine the power requirements for an Index are much different. Weighs 12.5 oz.

I'll have to agree with U/justadashcam when it comes to Vantrue's products. I just swapped out my Vantrue N2 Pro for the newer Vantrue N4.
Having the capacitor is a major plus. I live in the North East where winter gets pretty darn cold, and summer gets pretty damn hot lol... But that's not the reason I purchased it.
I used my N2 Pro's interior facing cam as somewhat of a "rear" facing cam. In the videos, I could see out of my driver's side and passenger side windows partially. Same goes for the rear window.
While it wasn't great and not ideal, I figured it was better than nothing.
I just received and installed the 3 channel N4 today and I'm absolutely blown away. 1440p for my front cam and 1080p for both my interior view and rear view out of my rear window.
As for OP, id highly recommend the Vantrue N4. It's very simple to set it all up. Main camera plugs into a 12v cigarette outlet. Rear camera plugs into the main camera. You're good to go from there!
As far as hardwiring, you can do that anytime you like. It doesn't cost much at all. I personally park my car in my garage, so I don't have the camera running all night. But whenever I'm out and about, I use my Anker PowerCore II. Seems like a single charge lasts forever!

Agreed. I got this which I use on a regular basis since it's smaller and not bulky it'll last me 2-3 days or quick weekend trip. Then I use this for longer trips. I've never use the full bank but it's last on 5-day trips. I typically charge my phone on a daily basis then miscellaneous items such as lantern, fan, inflatables pump, on an as need basis.

This is what I use and the combination work great for me. I use the velcro wrap that comes with the cables to secure the cable to my headstrap and stick the battery pack into my back pocket.

Is this this the exact model of your portable charger?
If so, PowerPort II (2 Ports) should charge it as fast as possible.
Hope this helps, and feel free to reach out with any further questions! 😀

You're welcome :D
I'm not the one to ask about how the Anker one I linked compares to any others - I have a few portable Anker speakers, I quite like all of the stuff I have from them, the speakers included, but those are the only external bluetooth speakers I've had. Their price vs quality tends to be quite good. A battery / bluetooth speaker set / case / MP3 player with bluetooth / wifi connectivity / etc, setup would be pretty easy to arrange.
I highly recommend their battery banks - I have this one and a few others, all are quite good, and very worthwhile carrying along an extra device for. You could always go the route of separate battery / phone / speaker, and grab a carrying case large enough for all of them. You're likely to get better battery capacity overall that way. The battery I linked has 2x the capacity of the Echo external battery, give or take a bit - and there are some with 4x and up.
My own portable setup consists of my phone, a couple ginormous anker batteries, misc cables / chargers, one of several anker bluetooth speakers, an aux cable, and a few other odds and ends. It would be fairly easy to get, say, an old ipod touch if you don't want to use your phone for connectivity for some reason - all held in this bag - it works quite well, and is convenient enough, even if its not all in one unit. Also, this is a fun little toy to play around with, and doubles as a battery bank / wifi repeater / bridge, etc.

This is my one and only area of prepping expertise. I've lived through hurricanes, floods, and winter storms. A virus outbreak would look very similar to them in terms of what your day to day looks like, provided you aren't sick. After all is said and done, boredom is generally the worst part of any of those.
Full Power
If you have full power, you do not have a boredom problem. You may get a little stir-crazy, but that's it.
-
Television: I shouldn't have to explain. If you have access to cable, streaming services, etc., you have a lifetime of entertainment. I highly recommend something like Roku if you don't have one, since it's fast and easier to use than a smart tv.
-
Video Games: Whether it be the latest PS4 game or an old school Nintendo, this is another lifetime of entertainment. If you're a fan of old school games, they're often pretty cheap to find on Amazon/Ebay. You can also get emulators that play these games, like a RetroDuo.
-
Cooking/Baking: Getting away from the TV a bit, here's another big time-sink. Provided you're not depleting your foods for no reason, you can spend quite a bit of time on this one. From finding the perfect recipe to actually baking/decorating everything, this is a fun and productive way to waste some time. Same goes for grilling/smoking meats. And this one has the added bonus of feeding you.
-
Cleaning: Your house should be spotless if you're in any type of situation like this. If you lose power suddenly, you don't want to be tripping over things in the dark. And you don't have to kill yourself cleaning every day if you actually keep it clean. Some light vacuuming makes a world of difference, especially when you're miserable and stuck at home.
Access to SOME Power
If you're like me, you have a solar charger for electronics coupled with a battery pack. With that, you should be able to stay at least sort of powered indefinitely. This setup increases your entertainment tremendously if you lose power.
-
Kindle: Charge it once and the battery lasts forever. I have a ton of books I've been meaning to read and books I had to put down because life got in the way. They're all there, just waiting for the power to go out. Additionally, a lot of older classics are free to download. And...err...I hear you can find books for free if you are willing to compromise your morals a bit. Also if you have a library card and want to keep those morals intact. I prefer the original Kindle or the Paperwhite, since I want it solely for books.
-
Tablet: Another prep I still need to make, but one I've researched a ton. Basically, you want some way of streaming movies, shows, and music. An old tablet+connected hard drive can potentially keep you entertained indefinitely, provided you can keep re-charging. And again, I hear there are places you can go to...find movies.
-
Phone: Of course, you should only use your phone if you can reliably keep it charged (and have a backup burner for 911 calls!). If you can do that, and you are still able to get 3G/4G, you should be more than entertained. And you can always download podcasts, movies, music, etc. to your phone in advance in case your cellular access is limited.
No Power
If you're woefully unprepared or all of your power is completely gone, you still have a few options:
-
Playing Cards: I see these recommended all the time, and I'm sure everyone knows a few card games. But how many? 3 or 4? How many games can you almost remember, but not quite? That was an issue I realized I faced, so I bought a book of card game rules, like this one.
-
Board Games: For those who didn't know, there was a board game revolution of sorts that began in 1995 with Settlers of Catan. Since then, there have been some REALLY incredible games that have come out. I love board games so much, I go to monthly meet-ups with fellow enthusiasts to play new and different games. Once you play a gateway game like Ticket to Ride, you'll never look back. I now have a good 30 board games, and am always looking for more. A typical board game can last for over an hour including setup, so they're a great way to kill time and have fun if there's nothing else to do. Check out some of the recommendations over at the board games subreddit
-
Physical Books: Unfortunately, I don't have much of a physical library. But anyone who reads before bed knows how easy it is to get sucked into a good story and suddenly it's 3:00am. I like to have several books I love, some books of short stories, and stuff I'm kind of 50/50 on. I figure, if I try something out when there's no power and it can't hold my attention, then it really isn't a good book for me.
-
Arts/Crafts: I'm not much of an arts and crafts person normally, but give me 3 days without power and maybe I'll change my tune. I'm sure someone with kids and chime in, but think of your typical elementary school art classroom and you have a plethora of options in the way of arts and crafts.

Im not super familiar with the osmo, but if I were going I would get a clamp with a magic arm so you can attach it to the boat and get static shots, an external hard drive to back up all your footage (or two for redundancy), power banks, microfiber cloths, and maybe some type of weather proofing.

Just saw they makeCPL's for the Osmoas well, this will be good to have being on the water and eliminating reflections/glare. Consider getting their ND pack as well.
