$17 is all it takes to not have a shitty connection. Say $23 if you throw in a couple extra bucks for a patch cable.

Ninja edit: This is the one I have, and it works great!

If you still can't find the WIFI solution, you could try wired connection by using one of these

Like a year ago or two, this is pretty much one that was recommended alot by some channels like spawn wave and such.

I got one myself and never had any issues with it so far. (tested on my switch and old laptop)

I get 240 mbps download and about 40 mbps upload with this thing on switch and havent experience any spikes unless my opponent is at mcdonalds.

Under 20 bucks too.

> Most any will work I think

This is incorrect. OpenWRT minimizes the number of drivers both compiled in and built as modules. To use a USB3 ethernet adapter, a kmod driver will absolutely be required. The number of chips supported in OpenWRT is limited compared to other linux distros. There are some adapters that just won't work.

The kernel modules (kmods) for USB ethernet all start with the name kmod-usb-net. Do an "opkg update" and "opkg list | egrep kmod-usb-net" to see them all. There's a whole 20-something of them and most are USB2, though some drivers support several different chips.

I have this adapter and it works with the kmod-usb-net-asix-ax88179 package. ASIX chips are very good quality.

The two modules which support USB3 devices that I usually use are kmod-usb-net-rtl8152 and kmod-usb-net-asix-ax88179. The chips supported by these two are cheap and readily available in most markets. Look for something supported by one of them. It should not be hard to find -- these are both very common.

I am a network engineer and have contributed code to openwrt.

As for adding the device, just install the module and do a "logread -f " and watch the output when you plug the device in to get info on it. Then just configure per any other interface.

It supports daisy-chaining to another monitor over DisplayPort.

For ethernet, just add a usb adapter.

Haha! I'm sure he is secretly comforted in knowing you have chosen to move away from Windows in the first place.

If it really bothers you then you can always get a Atheros wifi mpcie that is blobless or a USB to Ethernet adapter like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Ethernet-Gigabit-10-100-1000-Compatible/dp/B00AQM8586

I have one of these and the majority of these USB 3.0 to RJ45 adapters have the same chinese based chip with different exteriors which results in cheap commonality and it has been reverse engineered to be blobless.

I think the ugreen and the amazon basics also use the same chip.

I’m trying to hook my Switch up with ethernet, and it hasn’t worked. I’m using the Plugable USB to Ethernet adapter, and even plugging in the same cable that works perfectly fine on my computer doesn’t work on my Switch. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, how have you fixed it?

Get a USB 3.0 LAN adapter they're better. I bought this One. It works pretty good and it's relatively cheap in comparison to the other ones out there. Although I don't know if it's available in Europe (or the UK).

I used this one when I had to have a netbook fill-in temporarily, when my old router crapped out. ASIX chipset. Worked as a router on a stick, usual problems w/USB ethernet.

Edit: reading the description of the adapter, I see they've added "Not recommended for use with FreeBSD or pfsense". Lol. Anyway, it worked, and was cheap.

I have used this one on kernels as old as 3.10, and it works with no issues for me:

My USB device: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AQM8586/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_DPOOEbHS21MSN

And a Cat6 cable. My only hope is some issue with the ISP that can be fixed.

I had some trial and error with USB 3.0 NICs on Intel NUCS and virtualizing PfSense. What I found worked for me on Proxmox were these. I tried two other brands and found significant packet loss, I had not tried the startech USB NICs however.

I've had really good luck with these NICs in the past. You need to make sure you are on the USB 3.0 port in the front of the unit though.

Probably the cheapest way to pin point the problem is to get aUSB 3 to Gigabit ethernet adapter and see if you still have the issue.

I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AQM8586 and it has been 100% trouble-free, from installation onwards. It installed quickly. Needed to do absolutely nothing to get the Switch to recognize it and everytime I wake it up, it shows as being connected via CAT 5e cable.

A temporary workaround and method of testing that may help is a USB adapter:

I am using the Plugable USB3 NIC, which I believe can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Ethernet-Gigabit-10-100-1000-Compatible/dp/B00AQM8586

I am pretty sure it worked out of the box with ESXi 6.7, not sure about Proxmox as I've never used it.

if all you are worried about is connecting to the internet you could just use wifi, or, you could use a ethernet to usb adaptor and plug in the ethernet cord to a usb slot... something like this would work

https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Ethernet-Gigabit-10-100-1000-Compatible/dp/B00AQM8586/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=ethernet+to+usb+adapter+linux&qid=1588847138&s=electronics&sr=1-3

I would say try getting get a USB 3.0 LAN adapter. I got one for my Switch and I get better dl/ul speeds. You want to use 3.0 cause that will give you a faster connection. This is the one I got:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AQM8586/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Don't get the official Nintendo adapter cause it's more expensive and won't improve the connection much since it uses USB 2.0.

it has an update but I don't think its more thin 1GB but with how bad the switches wifi is id get that downloading.

Here are some accessorys you may want:

Plugable USB to Ethernet Adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AQM8586 will speed up updates/game downloads useful if your switch dock is somewhere u can get a internet wire.

Glass Screenprotector will help protect the screen from kiddos since the switch screen is plastic it can be scratched ez. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV

I also recommend you get a carrying case with a hard shell not one of the fabric ones

Anything with the ASIX AX88179 chipset should work fine.

All of the above should work with any Android based device. (ie. Shield TV, Mi Box or Fire TV)

Lol, no worries! I mean, you came here for knowledge and help right?

Yes, Cat 6 will work with any ethernet gear, so will Cat 5e. Everything's backwards compatible with everything. That's why I say use Cat 6 if you can because it will maximize whatever your equipment can do.

I would be massively surprised if your chromebook didn't work with a USB adapter designed to work with chromebooks. Quick google search yielded me this: https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Ethernet-Gigabit-Network-Compatible/dp/B00AQM8586?SubscriptionId=AKIAXBZAMVKUQXAFQD4T&tag=starryhope-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B00AQM8586

You might be able to find something cheaper, but that one's USB 3.0 (decently fast USB) and Gig ethernet capable.

Got it from this guy's article (he's also got a link to a USB C adapter, if you're chromebook has those types of ports, but the speed increase likely won't be noticeable):
