QHD is a 56% increase in pixel volume vs FHD.

This is the monitor I use, and I'd readily recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat...

You don't have to keep installing/uninstalling. Put the games on a 4-6TB HDD and cache that drive with a 500GB SSD or even a 250GB SSD and you'll get 95-98% SSD performance out of that HDD.

Your link is still a TN. Get the Asus PG279Q

It's IPS, 144Hz, G-sync, has everything you need.

How does this monitor compare to my current monitor?Current Monitor

I want a second monitor that will I will eventually be passing off to my gf in hopes of a 4K monitor depending on the next gen GPUs. Is the OPs monitor worth trying really hard to get? I love the color of my current monitor.

Mine are 27" ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q. They aren't in production anymore, I'm not sure what the current market for monitors looks like.

But the price is majorly inflated here. It was like $500 something when I bought it. I've got a 4k Asus Tuf on the horizon soon.

[FOR SALE] Asus ROG Swift PG279Q 27" monitor - New, unopened box - $500 OBO - 91607

Asus ROG Swift PG279Q for sale. It is unopened, still sealed in the box.

1440p, 27", IPS, 144hz (can boost to 165hz).

I bought it earlier this year because I was starting a small post production sound studio, but due to the coronavirus and other things, those plans are scrapped and I have no use for it (I already one for myself at my home studio).

It is bought from Amazon, I can provide receipt to prove it's not stolen if you want.

We can open the box together if you'd like when picking up. I cannot attest to any quality issues regarding backlight bleed.

$500 OBO. Cash. Local pickup, located in Valley Village (91607).

At 24" or 27" for future proofing, go for a 1440p monitor! You'll just end up wanting a higher res monitor in a couple of years. You can have high framerates AND high resolution all in one! Back in 2015 I was asking the same question and went with a 1080p model, basically it was an ACER that had a TN panel with a 144hz 1080p model and a 1440p model (g-sync of course). I wish I would've sprung for the 1440p one because after getting my GTX 1080 I wanted more. I ended up getting this after only a little over a year.
https://www.amazon.com/PG279Q-DisplayPort-Adjustable-Ergonomic-EyeCare/dp/B017EVR2VM

I was able to sell my monitor to another gamer but if I'd have just gone with the 1440p one initially I would've saved about $300 and with a GTX 1080 I still haven't really come across a game where I haven't been able to crank all the settings up. The GTX 1080 truly is a solid card man.

I couldn't be happier with it and I also hook my Switch up to the HDMI port and it even has little speakers so I can play smash brothers ultimate on it. Plus the IPS panel is nice. I think 4K is a little overdoing it unless you're going over 27 inches though.

TBH I think getting a monitor that has adaptive sync tech (g-sync, freesync) is key. I'm all about nvidia personally and I'll never forget how better gaming was the first time I used G-sync. Even just how smoothly the curser moved across the screen man.

1,000,000% go to 1440p. I have this monitor: https://www.amazon.com/PG279Q-DisplayPort-Adjustable-Ergonomic-EyeCare/dp/B017EVR2VM

and it has never done me wrong. DAY AND NIGHT difference from 1080p.

Do it. It's basically 4k but I can get 100+ to 120+ FPS in most games w/ my RTX 2080 Ti.

Recently ascended to the LG 34GN850-B and I love it, but... (38GL950G-B and 38WN95C-W)

Software/web developer that also uses my PC for work, content creation, gaming, and general media consumption. Have used the 27" ASUS PG279Q for years as I find the 1440p 144hz as the sweet spot. I the tried a dual and triple 27" setup for more real estate, but in that process I discovered the awesome world of ultrawides.

I pulled the trigger on the 34" LG 34GN850-B and absolutely love it, but then I discovered the 3840x1600 size and would love to have the slight bump in both vertical and horizontal screen area vs my current 34".

I have narrowed it down to two LG monitors. The 38GL950G-B and the 38WN95C-W. Does anyone have any advice on which one to go with? I am looking for the best overall.

1440p ASUS Monitor @ 165 hz, 32 gb (8x4) DDR4 Ram, and i9-9900k. I also just recently bought a Valve Index, luckily the 1070 can run it on some games but I would like to upgrade to enjoy it and get the full use out of it.

Hey all! New builder looking to turn a Pre-Build into a Prize.

>What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

  • Gaming, Web Browsing, Schoolwork with PP and Word. I play a variety of games (mostly indies, mobas, very few AAA's, a mixture) but I'm really into large/medium scale strategy-sims such as Warhammer 2 and Planet Zoo.

>What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

  • Prefer a max of around $600-$700. I can stretch but these are the sweetspots.

>When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

  • ASAP

>What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

  • Tower/Case
  • Motherboard
  • Storage (SSD)
  • CPU Cooler
  • Cooling/Fans
  • Maybe Win10

>Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

  • US, Maryland and Microcenter is close by.

>If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

>Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

  • I'd rather handle that automatically, but I've heard manual is better. Im hesitant because I dont know how, but I'm open to any guides or tips. Ark is the most demanding game I own, so I'm not sure if I'd need to OC alot anyway?

>Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

  • I currently have an external 2TB HDD Seagate , and my in-case 250gb SSD can only hold Warhammer 2 and some files.
  • A 2TB SSD would be great if it keeps me under budget, 1tb would still work since Warhammer may be the only game I own where the SSD made a difference anyway.

>Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

  • Bigger than Codex XE , inside is so cramped from PSU,GPU, and CD Drive slots. Inside
  • Black or a Dark Grey, simple patterns are fine
  • No RGB. Love them in other peoples setups, too distracting for myself though lol.
  • No glass\^
  • Nice ventilation.
  • Don't care for CD Drives (can have on case but wont use)

>Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

  • I assume a new MB would require it? If so then the most basic Win10 is perfect.

>Extra info or particulars:

  • So about 2 years ago I finally bought a desktop after my MSI laptop's fan broke. A MSI Codex XE from my local Microcenter, loved it. Slowly I added my own upgrades (still pretty new to all of this) and recently treated myself to new i9 CPU. It didnt work out...
Long Story Short: I thought my MB was compatible based on MSI's datasheet and it's not. Having a "retail MB" may be the case but not sure. Only one of four ram slots in MB now work, from 16gb to 4gb. Also wasn't able to flash the bios from the MB's page, but the Codex XE's Bios worked went from .C00 to .C30 so I did that part correctly atleast. Thought the upgrade would work, but nope.
So I'd rather just start fresh. Also, I assume things like the sound card, wifi/wired adapters can just be transferred to the new build?
    Prebuilt Bios, worked = https://www.msi.com/Desktop/support/Codex-XE
MB Bios, did not work = https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z370-A-PRO
  • Thanks for the much needed assistance!
