>The wifi things I've seen look like small chips, with no visible antenna

Are you thinking of Wi-Fi chips for laptops? Because the laptops have their antennas built-in (usually around the monitor or something). If you want to install one of those in a desktop, you need a PCIe bracket and external antennas (because most PC cases are made of metal and would severely reduce the range of the WiFi

>my wifi was just a small antenna I plugged into the back

Are you talking about a USB WiFi adapter? Those usually have terrible performance due to their size and crap antennas

Wifi+BT pcie card. Basic versions run ~$30. Will need a free USB header but I am sure you have one.

Pcpartpicker is a great tool for that, but yes everything is compatible.

For wifi and bluetooth you need a card like that:

https://www.amazon.com/Gigabit-802-11AX-2976Mbps-Bluetooth-Wireless/dp/B07X462KRK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?keywords=asus+wifi+card+pcie&qid=1578640383&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyNExMNkY4TktCNlcmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAyNjAyNTUyRjU3U1Q3NVpTVE5IJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAzMzg2NTczQjNNOE9ZRTVBWjk2JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfcGhvbmVfc2VhcmNoX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

You can choose another model but be careful, not all wifi cards include bluetooth.

As for your dongle, it most certainly does not provides bluetooth. It uses bluetooth technology to communicate with your headset, but it's a closed communication, you cannot connect anything else to that dongle.

Good Lord, they couldn't even populate all the PCIE slots on the board?

An M.2 to PCIE 1x converter with antenna backplate and any intel M.2 wireless card (or mini-PCIE for both). An Intel 7260/7265 if you only need 802.11ac, AX200/210 for 802.11ax.

There's combos on NewEgg, Amazon, etc. It will obviously be a pcie card with at least two antennas.

Or just go the USB route and use whatever if it's Windows, if you need it to work under Linux with native drivers you'll have to research what a good USB adapter is.

PCIE route gets you a better wireless experience, ability to use better antennae, isn't USB, lower CPU usage because it isn't USB, less weird problems because it isn't USB.. generally preferable to go PCIE.

Currently sub-$24: https://www.amazon.com/OKN-2974Mbps-Bluetooth-802-11AX-Wireless/dp/B07X462KRK

Should I get this well-reviewed off-brand wifi card with pretty much the same specs from Amazon for around $10 less? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X462KRK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_qm9UFbEN3R4Z6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Or is it worth paying that extra $10 for TP-link brand security?

Thanks!

This Ax adapter or this AC adapter

They both are based upon an Intel AX200 - so they are pretty much the same. They basically take the AX200 (which is an M2 card - same as wireless nics that are used in a laptop), installed on a PCI card with an M2 slot (and likely covered by a unnecessary heat sink).

If I was buying, I'd consider going even cheaper with something like: https://www.amazon.com/OKN-2974Mbps-Bluetooth-802-11AX-Wireless/dp/B07X462KRK/

It does not have a seperate antenna - but I have a number of seperate, external antennas around. If you ever want to replace the M2 card with a newer (2x2) wireless NIC, you can using the same PCIe card. (Assume you could do the same with the TP-Link and Asus cards by taking off the heatsink)

Next thing would be to get Motherboard info and look up specs and check the back of PC for a card. It'll be in a slot like a video card and they usually have a black antenna or two about 4 inches long.

A dongle is just a little adapter that goes in any USB port. Those can be on the front or back of your PC or in your monitor most likely. Alienware should not have sent you a new computer with a bluetooth dongle, though. It's an aftermarket fix, in my opinion.

USB = cheaper, less range, slower ~ https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-wireless-network-Adapter-SoftAP/dp/B008IFXQFU/ref=sr_1_4?

PCIe = more costly, good range, faster ~ https://www.amazon.com/OKN-2974Mbps-Bluetooth-802-11AX-Wireless/dp/B07X462KRK/ref=sr_1_11?

I find it really odd that you cannot run a cable in your own apartment but that's besides the point, you can look into purchasing a Wireless Network Adapter for your pc. Something like this or this. I personally prefer to use the PCIe ones and not the USB ones.

Here's a cheap intel AX200 PCIe adapter which is more than enough for the average joe.
https://www.amazon.com/OKN-2974Mbps-Bluetooth-802-11AX-Wireless/dp/B07X462KRK/
It will require a free USB2.0 header on your motherboard in order for the Bluetooth function to work.
