With RAM, each kit has been specifically selected to work well together, with the same timings and voltages. Buying two kits can result in having different timings and voltages which leads to instability.

Cooler, anything over 100 is a rip off, but it is the best single tower air cooler on the market.

Kinda what I'm leaning towards, but already over budget as is. I've got a $25 amazon gift card coming my way that'll help take the edge off. If I'm going to get a better cooler, I want to do it now so I don't have to deal with cleaning thermal paste and all. Is the noctua low profile I linked sufficient? I'd prefer that look in my case, and the next step up is nearly double the price.

I was in a similar situation. I have a 2600x and the room where my computer is in my current apartment doesn't have AC so the ambient temp is like 26C-28C most summer days. My case also only has mesh slits on the front for airflow instead of a full mesh panel so airflow is already less than ideal. I used stock paste and the stock cooler and games like No Man's Sky and even Apex were starting to send my CPU temps into the upper 80's. A week or two ago my CPU spiked into the 90's and I finally decided it was time to go for a better cooler.

I bought the Noctua NH-U12S chromax.Black, 120mm Single-Tower CPU Cooler (Black) (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Y88BNYZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and I don't think my temps have spiked above 75C since, and idle/load temps are anywhere from 10C-15C lower on average. It was incredibly easy to install and it's super quiet. I didn't even take my mobo out of the case, just popped the glass panel and the back panel off and was able to take the old cooler off and install the new one with no issues. No RAM clearance issues either. The cooler and fan together are slim enough that it doesn't even cover the far left slot on my ATX Mobo.

I would recommend a Noctua NH-U12S in chromax black. On sale on Amazon for $70.

Yes, it will be good for an R5. It’s much better than the one that’s included with it.

If you want to go premium for a little more $$, this cooler easily tames my 2700x.

Just buy an NH-U12s chromax.Black. It comes with the AM4 bracket in the box and will give you plenty of OC overhead, though you don't actually need to OC your 3600x.

I have two of these, one cooling a 9700k OC'd to 5.0GHz and another cooling a 3700x that auto-boosts to 4.3GHz on all cores. Neither chip goes above 80C on full loads. The i7 is in a Lian Li TU150 case, while the 3700x sits in a Corsair 220T. Temps are excellent (30s idle, 70s full load).

So would a Noctua cooler like this one Noctua NH-U12S fit on the Mac mini CPU? I have heard that the RAM slightly hangs on top of the mini's CPU. Would it still fit?

r/buildapc • comment

I had the same case and CPU cooler and the D15 fits right up against the side glass panel and I had to leave one screw loose in order for it to fit. The Noctua NH-U12S should have no problem cooling a Ryzen 5 3600 and will definitely fit better.

Totally sounds like the cooling. I'm using this on my kids rig, I put a R5 3600x in there and a Noctua

Playing games all day we don't break 65C (149f). The Wraith was okay but the case doesn't vent well so went with a better cooler to be safe.

Nah, it'd be pretty overkill but you could if you like the look, and want to upgrade to a high end cpu someday.

For your current one, I highly recommend this noctua one if you can find it at a local online store, or this nzxt aio cooler, for a gorgeous and clean looking cooling solution

Oh, yeah, you need something more powerful.

The Thermalright AXP-100 Full Copper will fit with the heat pipe tips pointed up, and is quite good especially in open air, but it will probably be just enough for a 5900x. It is rated 180W, and it can probably handle that in open air, but inside a case it really tops out at about 130W, which should still be fine for a 5900x, as it won't be running 142W constantly.

Can you tolerate a small tower cooler? Noctua just released the U9S in a Chromax Black version that looks nice and isn't absolutely massive. Would be okay for a 5900x, and is rated at 140W, which is perfect for the 5900x.

Also you could consider the highest power down draft cooler out there, the beQuiet Dark Rock TF, this would be the best if you plan to OC or want to get the best boost clocks you can while still using a low profile cooler. It isn't exactly super low, at 130mm with both fans, but it is capable of cooling much better than the rest.

This is a pretty good PC, is what I would build right now. Options Add a cpu cooler (3600 comes with one and works fine, but there is definitely better ones available) https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NH-U12S-chromax-Black-Single-Tower-Cooler/dp/B07Y88BNYZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=noctua+cpu+cooler&qid=1586876161&sr=8-3

Upgrade from 3600 to 3700x

Better GPU 2080 Super, or downgrade 2060 Super (depends on how much you actually want to spend)

Would recommend an Intel 660p 1 TB or 2 TB for SSD. Samsung overcharges because it has top brand recognition.

https://youtu.be/kM4P4RrExJ0

Wait for performance numbers on Ryzen 5000 is possible (Nov. 5th launch). The six core may have better multi-core performance than the 3700x which would make it (5600X) worth its similar price point. Last year, micro center did $50 off if you bought a 3700X vs $30 off if you got the 3600X so make sure you're informed when those deals are available. It only stuck around for launch period FWIW (discount reduced to $30 for all SKUs). They hiked the price this year so the micro center helps a lot.

For RAM, 3600 MHz at CL18 isn't bad, but I'd go for CL16 at the same speed. May be a few bucks more, nothing crazy.

I like the case choice.

Worth considering the black Noctua options. There's no black U14S yet, so your options would be U12S or D15 which is a thicc boi. Any of them would cool the 3700X or Zen 3 CPU just fine. I use the U12S and it's just amazing how quiet it is.

NH-D15 might be a bit more than you need. You can get by easily with a NH-U12S. Gamers Nexus did an in depth review of several coolers and tested on a 3800x overclocked and the U12S stayed under 61c under load. The D15 was at 56c. Here is the vid at the relevant timestamp: https://youtu.be/7VzXHUTqE7E?t=999

Yes the D15 will also work, but you will pay more and take up more space than with the U12S. I just got the black one yesterday and it looks great: https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NH-U12S-chromax-Black-Single-Tower-Cooler/dp/B07Y88BNYZ/

don't laugh at me but I honestly don't know if the cooler I got even fits in my build!

But if it does, it is one of the best coolers I could have picked in terms of noise and look.

Perfect rating on Amazon US and Canada and very good feedback on most places.

I would say find out if this cooler fits your build and if it does, I'm sure it gives you less noise than your 212.

Noctua Chromax NH-U12S If you've a budge(t) above $100 would be my suggestion (I personally have a 140mm version and it's fantastic). Second suggestion (under $100) would be this Be quiet! cooler.

  1. The 5600x comes with a stock cooler, but it often is loud and runs hot, so many people replace them.
  2. If you want a real budget cpu cooler that still performs decently, you can go for a Cooler Master hyper 212 evo. If I would pick anything for cpu cooling, I would go for Noctua, but those coolers can be a bit more expensive.

Although I have no experience with it myself, I have heard that the H510 is a solid case, good for looks and ok with cable management.

For a CPU Cooler, I would recommend the Noctua U12S, an amazing cooler, a little more expensive than those similar too it, but it has better cooling performance and is MUCH quieter. There is also a chroma.black version that you can even get a color.swap on it if you care about looks that you can change the color of.

For air coolers I always have loved Noctua. For a 3600 I probably would recommend a NH-U12S: https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NH-U12S-Premium-Cooler-NF-F12/dp/B00C9EYVGY/ref=sr_1_4?crid=FEW1N0FX4AZC&dchild=1&keywords=noctua+nh-u12a&qid=1597276940&sprefix=noctua+nh-u12%2Caps%2C-1&sr=8-4

If you don't like the color scheme you can always pay $10 more for the black one (they perform the same): https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NH-U12S-chromax-Black-Single-Tower-Cooler/dp/B07Y88BNYZ/ref=sr_1_6?crid=FEW1N0FX4AZC&dchild=1&keywords=noctua+nh-u12a&qid=1597276995&sprefix=noctua+nh-u12%2Caps%2C-1&sr=8-6

As for AIOs, most of them are made by the same company (Asetek) so anything from Corsair or NZXT comes down to aesthetics really. The absolute best AIOs on the market right now are from Arctic or the new one from EK.

As for my recommendations, I think for your chip a good air cooler would be the perfect fit. Air coolers are overall more reliable than AIOs due to having less moving parts. I haven't even had an AIO leak but I have had a pump fail. Noctua coolers also have the added benefit of being quieter than any AIO because the fans are better than most you can get on an AIO and there being no pump noise.

Should you invest in an after market cooler, yes, absolutely, however, I have used stock AMD coolers before, and you are running WAY too hot for even a stock cooler.

Consider first, shutdown and unplug your PC. Remove the stock cooler, carefully. Clean off the CPU and cooler base with rubbing alcohol or wipes

This kit comes with the proper cleaning wipes and Noctua thermal compound:

https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NT-H2-3-5g-Pro-Grade-Compound/dp/B07MXFTNZY/

See how your temps are after a new clean application.

If that doesn't work, or you just want to go straight to the better solution:

Looks really good.

A couple things to consider though....

  • An air cooler might be quieter, cooler and easier for about the same price. Maybe something from Noctua or Be Quiet!
  • Cases are very subjective, but you might want to consider something with a mesh front for airflow. The Meshify C is a good looking option. The Lian Li Lancool II X has better airflow and keeps the RGB.

Otherwise this is a pretty good build, a little light on the storage, but everything else is good.

If you wanted to get a little more bang for your buck, a Ryzen 5 3600X with a good B450/B550 motherboard would save you about 100$ and give you similar levels of performnace. That 100$ could be invested in upgrading the storage to a nice 1TB NVMe SSD.
