It might take a month or so to get sorted out, but trust me and you will have options in the future.
You might need to look into a phone service 4G LTE Broadband Modem router to hold you over.

I'm not sure about in the home, but we use Cradlepoints with Verizon 4G LTE as failover at work. They're pretty expensive, but I'm sure there are cheaper options for the home. Just google search LTE home router. 5G options are coming, but I haven't seen any available yet.
This is an option: https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-LTE-Modem-Broadband-Connection/dp/B01N5ASNTE/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=lte+home+router&qid=1599246800&sr=8-3

I found this, i don’t know if it might suit your needs, you will need a router since this is a modem. https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-LTE-Modem-Broadband-Connection/dp/B01N5ASNTE

Thanks! Would this be it? I see it says limited Verizon service but assume that’s because it doesn’t have band 13. They fall back to band 13 sometimes but I think that’s because they have a booster and it sees that as a “stronger signal” for some reason. Even though band 4 is definitely stronger for them.
If this is it, did it affect your unlimited data? With a shelter in place right now they can easily blow through tons of data. Last month close to a TB.

NETGEAR 4G LTE Broadband Modem - Use LTE as Primary Internet Connection | Unlocked | Works with AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon (LB1120) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5ASNTE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_8VikEbCBBJFYF
Says in the description it will accept all micro SIM cards. Could this work for him or no?

I use the m1 as a modem only. I use PoE to power it... the E is Ethernet, that’s how it’s connected to my router.

I get 150Mbps/60Mbps with my setup.

That looks like that should work. Alternatively, something like this could work as well: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5ASNTE/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_NEChFbQWH9M2Q

Netgear LB1120 is pretty reliable

Really? Their website says speeds are capped at 5, so I stopped looking into them.
I found this netgear modem and figured I’d have to put in a Verizon SIM card. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N5ASNTE/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Mmm, that's unfortunate, but at least it's an answer.
The M1 is a little beyond my budget for this right now, but I'm intrigued by the idea of it's built in ethernet port, since I would assume connecting that as WAN to just about anything should be fairly foolproof, bypassing RNDIS entirely.
What about this LB1120 which also features an ethernet port? https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-LTE-Modem-Broadband-Connection/dp/B01N5ASNTE/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=4g+router&qid=1607970868&s=electronics&sr=1-3
Do you think I'd be better off with that, or with an AC791L as you suggested?
I am Verizon btw. And obviously I already have an activated sim card, which people in the comments suggest could just be swapped into the LB1120.
Thanks for your help/advice. :)

Have you considered a standalone unlimited hotspot?

We don't have a traditional ISP available so it was wireless or satilite. I was using just a tablet with hotspot enabled and while it "worked" it didn't work well. So after some research I found the LTE routers. It works like a dream.
Netgear even has a model specifically made to use as a backup connection.

I use a Netgear 4g modem and a small router (Anonobox) for this exact purpose. The pi runs OpenAuto for Android Auto and various scripts to do CAN bus communication.
Here is the modem https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5ASNTE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aNiIFbJ0A2H6H
I made a regulated power supply to power it with a cheap buck-boost converter from Amazon. You can't power it directly from the vehicle because once the alternator is running the car's voltage reaches 14.7v and is noisy. Not good for electronics.

To add to this...
- internet faillure: Backup 4g router, like https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-LTE-Modem-Broadband-Connection/dp/B01N5ASNTE (for example, I haven't tried this one, so can't endorse it)
- hardware failure: you could setup a second node, one that isn't a validator but runs the software and keeps the chain updated. So could also sync the chain data to a nas, so you'd sync quickly if you need to change the ssd.

I'm surprised this works for you.
Here's the first Question and answer talking about this.
Will this work with a t-mobile sim card? Answer:If your intent is to buy an unlimited t-mobile sim off ebay, chances are the sim will be activated with a phone plan and t-mobile will throttle the speed to near zero. Speedtest will show 20+mb/s, but loading any web pages/youtube is painfully slow (even using a VPN. T-Mobile does this now by checking the modem imei. Also, T-Mobile completely blocks the Nighthawk MR1100. see less

Most that plug directly into a computer plug in with USB rather than ethernet. The USB can provide power from the computer, so truly "dongle" style, and you can find them with searching "4G USB modem", but I don't know of any particular models that are recommendable.
There are also many that have both wifi and ethernet, and you can easily just turn the wifi off. Just search "4G modem". The Netgear ones are good for a $100-150 consumer device, there are also higher end (enterprise/industrial) units from a few brands like Cradlepoint and Peplink.

Can you suggest a good yagi mini antenna to try?
I'm currently using this Netgear LB1120 connected to a window mount MIMO.
Should I upgrade to the Nighthawk?

Maybe setup the modem as an IP Route?
with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-LTE-Modem-Broadband-Connection/dp/B01N5ASNTE/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=modem+switch+router&qid=1599232651&sr=8-6

They are artificially injecting themselves as a middleman into something where no middleman is needed. Kind of shady if you ask me.
If you have good LTE coverage at your house you can get a LTE modem, it provides the WAN connection to your router.
https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-LTE-Modem-Broadband-Connection/dp/B01N5ASNTE/ref=sr_1_2?crid=KRXRFF08SLNC&dchild=1&keywords=netgear+lte+modem+lb1120&qid=1587399017&s=electronics&sprefix=netgear+lte%2Celectronics%2C182&sr=1-2
If you need to boost your signal you can get an external LTE antenna, they apparently drastically improve LTE signal. According to the Amazon reviews for that modem it has a hookup location for an external antenna if you need one. Here is an antenna:
https://www.amazon.com/Proxicast-Universal-Directional-Antenna-700-2700/dp/B00RJQ8RGC/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=lte+yagi+antenna&qid=1587397955&sr=8-6
The key to doing this is you need LTE signal and that might not always be possible in rural areas (but the antenna may help) and an unlimited plan and those are getting harder to find. If you can find an unlimited plan though you can simply insert the sim card into the LTE modem and off you go (sometimes regional carriers have unlimited plans, just make sure the regional carrier broadcasts on the bands supported by that modem).

I have used Netgear 1120 and it works great in bridged mode.

It looks like the UDMPro is sold out for 2 weeks, so I'll be going the USG route.
Thanks for linking the Unifi LTE, I may go this route of over ease of use since I've never set up a failover system.
I had planned on getting one of these initially since it accepts any sim card https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-LTE-Modem-Broadband-Connection/dp/B01N5ASNTE/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=failover+lte&qid=1594610914&sr=8-4
Which method would you recommend?
The plan would be to configure it so if fail over kicks in, everything is disable except 1 computer, 1 credit card machine and 1 phone.

The problem with phones is the antennas on them are quite small, so they need a quite powerful signal. You'd probably have better luck with a LTE modem and an external antenna:

for a customer who needed internet out in the sticks and it has worked quite well. They're using it for streaming and internet, but it's truly unlimited. $150/mo. In the sticks I'm getting 30/5 mb, in the DC metro area I was getting 50/30 which was quite respectable. Hope this helps.

You don't have to wait for 5G...
Buy this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5ASNTE/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_4?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
Sign up for ANY cellular LTE hotspot plan.
Pop your SIM into this modem and connect it to your existing network/router. Done.

Yeah you should just be able to get a cellular WiFi hotspot device that works with your cellular provider!
Apparently netgear has a cellular modem you can plug a regular router into as well to provide whole internet (if desired)
I don’t necessarily recommend these products as I’ve not used them but I did find them with some quick searches on amazon:

I have GotW3, we get 5-20Mbps. Pre-covid I would hit 30Mbps. I got an external antenna and 15ft cable and that increased my signal strength significantly. You can also lock the modem to a specific frequency band, we found that Frequency Band 4 works best in our area. If you can just buy a SIM from them and provide your own modem do that, this one is much cheaper and works
The service is mediocre, best in our area for sure (that doesn't say a lot). They don't guarantee any speeds but there are also no contracts so ¯\(ツ)/¯
I wish I had more information on the kind of contract they have with AT&T because I see these companies popping up all over and the SIM they send just looks like a pre-paid AT&T data sim...

WEELLLLLL... now that you mentioned it...
How deep do you want to go??
You can get one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NESZL22 and it'll change colors based on the temp which is kinda cool, and it has remote sensors like these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EYI61DE/ https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C3HBRIW/
You can have up to 8 of them with this base station.....
And you should stop right here. ...SHOULD.
Or you can get a raspberry pi and a 443MHz receiver like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008S7AVTC/ and have all your data logged and put into Home Assistant. (www.homeassistant.io)
With an LTE modem (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5ASNTE/) and Wireguard as the VPN, you can access the van from anywhere you have connectivity.
I am calling mine "Roam Assistant" LOL Careful though... see how it sprawls??? This was about weather... I think. Now I got fucking LIFX RGB lights, diesel and gas tank meters, considering moving to Victron just to easily pull the solar data.... If you have a never vehicle with ODBII you can pull vehicle data......
How deep do you want to go??

There's also the Netgear Nighthawk MR1100
https://www.amazon.com/Netgear-Nighthawk-MR1100-Hotspot-Unlocked/dp/B07M5HQQ1P
And the Netgear LB1120 4G LTE Modem
https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-LTE-Modem-Broadband-Connection/dp/B01N5ASNTE
And, if you want to "hack" something together, there's a small travel router by GL.iNet that you can tether a cell phone to, then connect the ethernet port to the pfsense WAN port. Works fine, but you need a cell phone and service for this one, which most people already have.
