Random HDMI Dropping While Streaming Video
My HTPC has an Nvidia RTX 2070 Super going out to an Onkyo TX-NR676, then to a Chinese XGIMI Lune short-throw projector. Cables are only 6' and 3'.
Occasionally I'm experiencing the video cutting out for a couple seconds in some (but not all) streaming video (audio is not affected). I bypassed the receiver, and plugged the HDMI cable directly into the projector to see if the problem was with the receiver, but I still got intermittent video loss. I also tried watching the stream from a monitor from the same GPU, and there is NO issues with video dropping out there (though the monitor is using DisplayPort), so there doesn't necessarily seem to be an issue with either the stream itself, or my bandwidth.
It seems to me like the culprit is likely the HDMI cables. I've used a couple different types, and am currently using the Monoprice Dynamic View Ultra 8K High Speed HDMI Cable. I don't need 8K cables, of course (my projector only outputs faux 4K), but I figured these cables would have worked where the others failed, but so far that doesn't seem to be the case.
A random bit of info, the video will resume after blanking out on its own, but if I pause the stream at the moment it blanks out, the picture will restore itself after a few seconds as well.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Is there maybe a surefire cable that I could use that's better than the one I have now?

Annoying disclaimers: I'm far from an expert or super experienced, this is just something I've been mildly nerding out on via combing the Vizio subreddit, the 4k subreddit, RTINGS and YouTube vids (stopTheFomo and hdtvtest). In short: I don't really know what I'm doing, probably, mostly. So with that said please point out where I'm wrong, your personal setting tips etc blah blah. This "review" skews mildly nit-picky and is me coming down from slightly too high expectations. Tbh I think I'm partly doing this for some sort of catharsis due to the long and confusingly anticipated launch, ordering this TV the day it was available on Walmart for in store pick up, opting for the extended warranty, shipment being delayed 4 times, meanwhile seeing posts about completely broken or faulty sets, finally driving to fed ex out of frustration, noticing a literal hole in the actual Vizio box and the delivery box being beat to shit.. but everything turning out.. fine? Let's hope so. Here goes:
Viewing in a dim to dark room, though even with all my lights on my room is still relatively dark in comparison to a bright windowy living room or something
- also viewing most content via the built-in Ui, minus that one time through my PS4 pro. Which you can read about below *
The good:
-Great upscalling- Actually genuinely impressed. Seriously.
-Dolby vision / HDR10+ looks great and is faaar better than standard or even regular HD/whatever (I pay for Netflix “premium” or whatever So not sure how much that actually helps?) HDR10+ streaming amazon looks fucking fantastic
-Feel totally fine about the ux/built in streaming software. LOVE I can use Vizio remote to control my PS4 Pro menu. Such a weirdly welcomed surprise.
-Netflix’s Dovi pattern tests actually look fantastic.
The not great:
-Sound obviously sucks. To be expected on most panels in this category so I’m genuinely not upset about that, I’ll just buy a cheap sound bar since I don’t have the $$ to really care about great sound for the time being.
-Viewing angle ain't great if not front and center but this isn't particularly important to me. Just FYI
-Immediately went to color test (blank white screen, blank red screen, etc) to see how the banding was due to some posts on the Vizio subreddit. It’s noticeable on a color test(?) but I pretty much rarely ever notice during any other content
-I do notice a liiiiiiitle bit of that “soap opera affect” with some Content. I have no motion settings on so it might be certain TV shows/movies VS others
-Minimal dirty screen affect- I notice it sometimes but mostly only if I’m looking with a critical eye. It's there though.
-Ghosting feels very inconsistent- sometimes I really notice (again more with a critical eye VS passive) and other times I expect it and it isn’t there so 🤷🏻♂️
-Initially it felt like: unless I'm on the "bright" setting it does feel like the color and pop is just.. slightly muted.. or like there's a faint sepia filter. I hate that I mildly prefer the "bright" setting sometimes and feel like I might just need to get used to less vivid(?) but more accurate picture on Calibrated Dark. ....After some more time I’ve adjusted a lil more to it and it feels less sad. Actually prefer Calibrated Dark on HDR10+/DV now, though I do still kinda want “Bright” (not vivid) for nature shows and shit.
The Concerning:
-Backlight started flickering on white background during an episode of the office. SUPER noticable. Turned set off/on and that worked but.. I don't feel good about that.
-UI is finicky. Suddenly Couldn’t access certain apps using the “ok” button located in the middle of the directional pad. Could only access via the dedicated buttons built in on the remote. Annoyingly strange and sounds silly but was truly a wtf moment considering a day prior that was working fine then worked again later in the evening...
...Even stranger the Amazon app kept saying my internet connection wasn’t working regardless of the other apps working fine. Ok maybe it’s just my internet..
...so I watched “I, Tonya” via the Amazon app on my PS4 pro. Immediately notice the picture quality drop in multiple ways; vertical and horizontal banding, pixelated blacks (forgot the term for this) even some LED-light edge bleed, etc -and the sound Was just fucked in some scenes. Dumb. Also hdmi cut out for no apparent reason twice during the movie..
..after I finish the movie, the Amazon app on SmartCast is suddenly working again (along with the “ok” button) so I play the movie through that and picture quality has drastically improved and there’s no more sound issues. There’s probably something I’m missing here but that’s all still really annoying.
^update: realized I was accidentally using the HDMI cable that came with my PS4 VR system that I sold a long time ago not the HDMI cable that came with PS4 pro. So I spent $150 on a extra special monster HDMI cable just kidding I got this one, which I’m hoping may fix some of the issues I was having. I’m also gonna hardwire via Ethernet.
-No HBO MAX app?
Moving on:
Current settings: (looking forward to RTINGS's settings)
Picture mode: *calibrated dark
Light sensor: off
Backlight: 95 (not factory, adjusted)
Brightness: 50
Contrast: 52 (not factory, adjusted)
Color: 50
Tint: 0
Sharpness: 20
Color temp: normal (I slightly prefer this over warm, not factory, adjusted)
Advanced picture:
Black detail: off
Edge enhancement: off
Local contrast: Low
Active Full Array: medium
Motion control/clear action: off
Reduce noise >
Signal noise: low
Block noise: low
Contour smoothing: off
(I'll be honest I can't remember if the 'reduce noise' settings are factory or if I messed with them so I'm just leaving it for now)
Closing thoughts:
I'm a little disappointed but not exactly super upset about it. I obviously need to spend a little more time with it, but Maybe leaning towards a return and going for the new TCL 6. Maybe not. Idk yet. Either way it's a good set not great, and I probably need to chill a little. I also want to see if a better HDMI cable will help at all, considering my watch-a-movie-via-Amazon-app-on-PS4pro experience was very lackluster. I will say the more time I’ve spent with it and learned how it works the better I’ve felt overall.
NOTE: I’ll also update how gaming is once I receive new HDMI cable. Gaming on these types of sets is important to me, especially since a third of the reason I bought this set was for HDMI 2.1 (before you say it: yes I’m well aware there aren’t a ton of uses for that yet. I know. Yes. I know.)* I just haven’t had the time and suspect I have a less than premium HDMI. For now I can say it’s fine. Refresh rate is great.
Anyways hope that's helpful to some! I'd love to hear y'alls thoughts! (As long as they aren't: "bUy a BetTeR tV yOu CaNt AfFoRd" -I would if I could, trust me)

Try Monoprice

I'd highly suggest Monoprice cables. They're quality stuff at a good price and they're not a fly-by-night company that will disappear in a month.
This is their 48gbps cable that can handle the full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WNM2NJ5/

This monoprice ultra high speed one. I can’t test if it actually does 4k/120 since I don’t have a computer that can run that, but everything else works flawlessly.

A cable is a cable, the only difference will be in durability, not quality of image. If you're not planning on unplugging and plugging it back in multiple times a day a basic decent HDMI cable is the way to go.
It is kind of confusing to find the right cable though because they don't label them by HDMI version. There's high speed HDMI (18gb/s) and ultra high speed HDMI (48gb/s). You need the 48gbs one to take advantage of HDMI 2.1.

If you want "the best" HDMI cable, make sure you get one that has been validated for 48Gbps speeds. That will ensure it supports all HDMI 2.1 features. I've had the best luck with cables manufactured by Monoprice:

I got thesecables since my AppleTV 4K’s audio would stutter when I hooked my LG CX. No more stutter🤙🏾.

I have a 2018 Vizio P65-F1. I also have an Apple TV 4K. Some of the things you mention happen because for the past year or so every time Vizio releases a firmware to the TV and it auto updates the TV gets broken until you do a factory reset. It's completely annoying as I then have to reconfigure all my settings. Unfortunately that is the only way to restore the TV to working condition.
The Apple TV 4K is very picky when it comes to HDMI cables. I have had numerous issues until in January of this year I purchased a new cable line from Monoprice. This 48Gbps HDMi cable has proven to make a difference for me. I have 4 of them in my system and I plan on adding a 5th to connect my Xbox Series X in 2 weeks.
My advice to you is to factory reset the TV and use those cables. Make sure HDMI inputs have Full UHD Color enabled. CEC should be ON. I haven't had many issues so far this year except for the new firmware from Vizio that breaks my TV until I factory reset it

I was eyeballing this one from Monoprice (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WNM2NJ5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PJwXEbC9M34K3). Only 6 feet, but I believe it will fit my needs. Just unclear if that will cover all the features of the TV (HDR, full color spectrum, GSync, etc.).

Huh. Ok well I had some HDMI cables that I was using and just tried swapping out with newer cables which I just happened to have ordered recently from Amazon: Monoprice Ultra 8K High Speed HDMI Cable - 6 Feet - Black, 48Gbps, 8K, Dynamic HDR, eARC - DynamicView Series
So I just swapped them out and figured it would be a while before this would happen again but I didn't need to wait long. About 3 minutes after hooking up these cables from TV to sound bar and AppleTV to soundbar, I had the same static-y thing happen again. Are these cables "not good enough" for some reason?

What you are doing should not be a problem.
My guess is the hdmi cable from the denon to the lg.
You need an hdmi cable that will the 4K and hdr bandwidth (ex mono price hdmi

I looked at the Vizio cable and unfortunately didn't see any markings. I do know that certain earc features only work with the higher speed cables. If Vizio shipped anything but a cable that fully supports earc, that would be quite a let down.
I've been using thus without issues, though the current price is double what I paid (low stock?).

I’m in the same boat. I was looking at this monoprice cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WNM2NJ5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
but i’m seeing some mixed reviews if it is actually capable of 2.1 performance.

I actually got this one
https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Ultra-High-Speed-Cable/dp/B07WNM2NJ5
But it sounds like you are doing everything right. Maybe it’s time to take your Xbox on a road trip to a buddies house and try it over there. You clearly know what you are doing.
Good luck! I know how frustrating this can be.

Are you using a 48 gbps cable? I've heard this one works well for 4k120hz:

I just checked and my Denon audio delay with my LG OLED is actually 152ms. On another older LED TV with a Denon receiver I have it set to the max of 200ms. These are the cables I got: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WNM2NJ5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

PS5 should come with an HDMI cable to connect to the receiver, you will need another one to connect receiver to TV. Get something 48gb/s rated.
https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Ultra-High-Speed-Cable/dp/B07WNM2NJ5
Speaker wire is also required, but this is extremely cheap.
https://www.amazon.com/Performance-Gauge-Speaker-Oxygen-Copper/dp/B01N6EF3GZ
Pretty sure Costco has the TSR-700 for $400 which is a pretty good deal. $300-350 is possible for a receiver, but then you don't get HDMI 2.1. So it makes sense to spend the little bit extra.

I'd recommend going with this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WNM2NJ5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Mainly because it has much higher bandwidth for data, plus it's a little more future proof, same spec as the Belkin one that Apple recommends, but much cheaper
1 points • spinningfloyd
A smaller number in the awg is a thicker wire. Thicker wire is needed for longer runs and lower impedance.
12 would be totally fine, way bigger and more expensive than necessary but not harmful or anything. At that length you don't need that high of a gauge, 18 would even work but I'd say that most would probably go 16. I usually buy 12 because I've done some bigger runs here and there, 25+ feet, and the price difference isn't that big of a deal to me.
As for the hdmi, I just grab these monoprice high speed ones. They're cheap and will push 18gbps for 4k 60hz. Never had a problem on my one x. If you want something to take advantage of hdmi 2.1 with the ps5, consider this.

There are currently no confirmed 48Gbps HDMI cables on the market, only cables that claim to be capable of 48Gbps.
As per this page the Ultra Certified cables should be released to market sometime in Q4 2020 (but that could be delayed just like everything else in 2020).
In the meantime the most recommended 48Gbps cables are the Zeskit Cable 8K and the Monoprice Ultra 8K HDMI cables.
Lastly, yes only HDMI 3 & 4 are HDMI 2.1 capable (or will be).
