Electronics Home Audio Speakers Bookshelf Speakers
- The Micca RB42 bookshelf speaker celebrates music reproduction in a handsome package, delivering the next step up in compact speaker performance. With curiously robust bass output and a silky smooth sound signature, it renders all musical genres with faithful authority along with a dose of fun.
- The stout 4-inch woofer is built on a truncated heavy steel frame and substantial magnet structure. Its long throw design incorporates a coated pressed paper cone with concave dust cap, large radius rubber surround, and vented pole piece.
- The tweeter is based on Micca’s popular 0.75-inch silk dome design, using an high efficiency neodymium magnet and a form-cut bezel for tight driver spacing.
- The RB42 owes its tonal balance and transparency to a 10-element crossover that uses high grade film capacitors and air core coils for key components. Both the tweeter and woofer circuits have a 18dB/octave slope to enhance power handling, dramatically reduced lobing, and superior off-axis performance.
- Dressed up in dark wood pattern in clean modern curves and lines, you can show off its good looks anywhere in the home or office. Experience its finger-snapping, hand-clapping, arm-waving, hip-swaying, head-nodding, and toe-tapping performance today.

Is a Magni 3 enough to drive these Micca speakers to a satisfying volume? Says they are 200W speakers but the Magni can only put out about a 100th of that.

I was in the exact same situation you are in about 2 weeks ago and ended up getting the Micca RB42s and RB42-C.
Not saying they’re better than the others, just putting them on your radar. I’m really enjoying them.
As vader540is said, you can always buy both and return the ones you don’t want.

Better than the mb42x is this one still under your budget.

Awesome.
As long as that amp has nothing wrong with it, you should be good to spend the rest of the budget on speakers. The best option at that price, in my opinion, would be the Micca RB42.
I'd give you options but I'm honestly not sure of anything else that even competes.

>Okay, what are the absolute best active bookshelf speakers around $250 or below?
Right off the bat, this is a bad question.
"Best" is worthless in audio, and you'll still get wildly varying answers here.
What's important to you? What's your preferred sound signature? Do you care about ease of use?
For active speakers less than $250, a number of people will point you to JBL 305 series studio monitors. And they supposedly sound great...
But you still need to buy an audio interface if you want a physical volume knob to control volume, or live with only using them PC usage and use digital volume control. You'll also have use studio monitor hardware (TRS style connectors rather than more common RCA/speaker wire), and live with a small audible hiss, even when they've not in use. And you won't have access to other features, like bluetooth connectivity. Should you want to upgrade in the future by adding a subwoofer, your choices will be limited.
So is that the best choice for you? They may have great performance, but aren't neccessary the most convenient and lack some commonly desirable features.
Or, for an easier-to-use active speakers, you could be looking at at people recommended certain Edifiers. These are more conventional, and don't use studio monitor hardware and reportedly lack the JBL's hiss. They have easy-to-acccess volume/tone controls right on the speaker, look nice, may even have a remote and bluetooth ability, and depending which model you buy, might even have a subwoofer out port for easily adding one in the future.
Are these the best? Easier to use, and have a lot of features, but for the same money, the JBL probably sound a little better.
And personally, I'd steer you away from ALL active speakers and push you to consider a good passive system, like adding $50 to your budget and buying this SMSL AD18 and these Micca RB42. These class D amps are so small, I have difficulty buying that people cannot find room for them. And passive systems can always have their components upgraded or repurposed. And I guarantee it'll still sound amazing. All the benefits of the Edifiers, with all the flexibility of passive, separate stereo components. And if you upgrade in the future, you won't have to totally start over!

I havn't heard anything terrible about the topping mx30, I see it recommended on this sub pretty often. There is also the SMSL AD18 that is very similar.
The Micca Origen G2 is a DAC, It has a physical switch that I use to flip between headphones and an output that is wired to my speaker amp.
My Kef Q100s don't really need a sub, but they are a discontinued model. Q150 are the newer ones.
I know Micca RB42s are highly recommended on this subreddit as a desktop speaker and I don't see many people pairing sub woofers with them.

I know nothing about those pioneers, but reading about them, appears they were sold at places like circuit city 20 years ago, for about $50. I would think a $200 budget should get you a decent improvement in sound quality. The Micca RB42 would probably be my choice for under $200. They're $149 and if bought off Amazon would be easy to return if you weren't happy with them.
The Polk S20 for $179 would also be excellent for the money. I think they're a much better looking speaker if that's important to you.

I'd suggest the Micca RB42, a decent amp, and then add a Dayton Audio SUB-1000 when you can swing the rest of the budget.
Or, if you want it all now, substitute the Micca MB42x instead.

$300 isn't nearly enough to get audio that would match an LG C9. Not to be a snob, but with such high picture quality you really don't want mediocre audio. You could and IMO should spend upwards of $500 on the receiver alone.
Don't get me wrong, $300 will still beat the integrated TV sound by a mile. But as you spend more money, that mile is actually the start of a marathon.
Wireless speakers suck. Doesn't matter how good they make the technology, you still need power cables and they always seem to be a latency or sync issue.

For $340 you can start off with that setup. Then you add the matching centre for $100 ASAP. After that, you get the best subwoofer you can afford, 2 subs if your budget supports it so that you aren't dealing with room mode issues as much.
After you have a 3.1 setup, then you consider if you have the space for adding side surrounds.
After 5.1 you would need a new receiver, either to add Atmos channels or rear surrounds. Something like the $550 Denon X3500H would be a good choice. Before you add rear surrounds or Atmos channels though, something better than the Micca RB42's should be used for the front 3 channels. Ascend Acoustics CMT-340 for example, which is $900 for the front 3 channels.
That still only gets you up to 7.2 or 5.2.2 though. A refurb Marantz SR6013 for $750 lets you expand to 7.2.2. or 5.2.4, and with an external stereo amp, can the full 7.2.4.

I can't speak to the amp (I had an AudioSource AMP100 to put to use), but I just got those Miccas yesterday from Amazon Warehouse - about $30 off usual price and they appeared to be new. (Looks like there's another set there: https://www.amazon.com/Micca-RB42-Reference-Bookshelf-Speaker/dp/B07JC416LG/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=micca+rb42&m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&qid=1594348159&s=warehouse-deals&sr=8-1 )
Gotta say, even with just a day of listening ... I'm really liking them. I was coming from Mackie CR3's that I didn't love, so maybe the bar was low, but for my purpose the Miccas are perfect -- and decently sized for a desktop, too (if that's a concern). I was gonna go powered route, but glad I got the Miccas and put a spare amp to use.

How about something a little more quality like some nice speakers and a small Bluetooth amp. I sud gets this amp that is 50 watts per channel which is plenty and a pair of micca rb-42 . These should get plenty loud and are very nice set of speakers that a good quality

Wow, looks like they are sold out on Amazon!
In the past I've seen some used one for sale:
- Amazon Warehouse which seem to be customer returns $130-$135, last one was on 2020.07.20
- Micca Outlet Renewed (much less common) $129.99 als on 2020.07.20
Maybe you'll have some luck there if you're looking for used.

I need help figuring out how to connect the JDS Element II DAC/Amp to my Micca RB42 Bookshelf speakers. The Element II is connected to my computer. I would like a way to connect the two without spending much money. It seems like I need a speaker amp in between the two, but I am unsure which to get.

So maybe I should just stick with something I don't have to DIY as much lol. What do you think about ~~1500 LO~~~~L~~(wrong link) , RB42's, and the Micca Origain. It's a little over my budget but that's fine.
edit:the right 1500 link.
1 points • cherryz3
Yes, a CD player can easily be attached to both my receiver recommendations. I would never buy those speakers. Their efficiency rating is only 77db. That means for one watt of power at one meter distance, they can only product 77db of loudness. These would take much of your amp's power just to be heard above the baby crying. My favorite recommendation for a $100 pair of good speakers are the Dayton MK442's but they are out of stock. Take a look at the Micca RB42. Spending more on speakers is a good thing.

Home theater in a box setups aren't great usually. Two things that usually are bad are small drivers (4" should be minimum) and crappy subs that don't play very deep (20hz @ -3db being target) or flat. That only plays 38hz @ -3db and has 3.5" speakers. If you want to get a package this is what I'd get. Both this and the one you mentioned require a receiver to power them encase you didn't know.
However a lot of times it's better to build up a system as it allows you to spread cost out over a larger period of time. You could start with buying a receiver and left and right speakers (2.0) then buy the center then get a nice sub then get surround speakers then Atmos. If you wanted something compact that I've heard sound really good are the Micca RB42 and RB42-C are supposed to be good for what they cost and are decently small but only catch is they are rear ported meaning you can't put them against a wall as they need 3-6" of space to breath. Also wireless subwoofers kits are a lot cheaper then the speaker kits (since they don't have to have amplifiers) if that's a concern of yours. Just don't skimp on the sub it's the most important speaker (along with the center).

Desktop PC and Vinyl DJ Setup for Living Room - System Advice
Hi Everyone,
I recently moved into a very open concept apartment, and I'm looking for help to upgrade my audio setup for both my desk PC and an adjacent vinyl DJ setup. The living rooms is the about 30' x 30' with 11' ceilings. My goal is to create a complete setup in which I can have 2 speakers and 1 receiver for both systems, and easily toggle between the two. While it may not be the BEST to configure my room like this, I don't have the funds for two dedicated systems.
I am currently rocking an old LG Bookshelf speaker set, the kind from best buy in the mid 2000's that includes a receiver, 5-Disk CD player, and cassette player that only pumps 25W per channel. This lives on my desk and while it worked for my needs in the past, it only plays music much louder than PC Monitor can and I'm looking for more. It doesn't have a headphone amp, it's bulky, unappealing and is incompatible with the vinyl setup. The vinyl rig is currently two Technics SL-1200 running through an A&H Xone 23 mixer.
Bulleted Information:
- $500 Budget
- Located in U.S., so most retailers are an option
- Use for Music, DJ-ing (vinyl & Digital), Gaming
- Desk & Room Setup
- PC
- Technics SL-1200 MK2 + Allen & Heath Xone 23
- 30'L x 30'W x 11'H Room
- Passive (open to Powered)
Now for the what I'm envisioning. From where I sit to where I would like to stand and DJ is about 8 feet a part. I would like to put two speakers on stands on either side of my desk, with the speaker on the right between my desk and the turntables. My thoughts are I can easily turn the speakers to project more through the room than when I'm sitting at my desk, and I am normally DJ-ing with friends hanging out so it's not imperative for me to the focal point. Speakers that can get loud and fill up the room are more important than the near field experience since I mainly use them for listening. If possible I'd like to have the system compact so it can sit on top of my desk, and include a headphone amp.
Initial System Idea
Other things I've though of but I need help with are I'm not sure if I need a switch, as it seems I should be able to connect to the AD-18 and have that change sources. The Xone 23 mixer has XLR and Dual RCA Leads to connect to an amplifier, Since the AD-18 doesn't have those connections I'll need to get something like XLR -> 3.5mm.
Let me know your thoughts on if this will work, or if you have recommendations on how to change it. I'm open to all suggestions.

Micca MB42X should be better than the Edifiers.
Fluance may be similar to Boston A25.
Micca RB42 have a great low end for a small speaker if not adding a subwoofer.
I have Ascends on my desk and in my living room.

If you want a small, compact amp then this might be your best bet.
If you want a set of powered speakers, the Edifer R1700BT and 1850DB are within your budget and a step above the 1280t. Or maybe this pair of Monoprice monitors.

Start with just a stereo system with the option to upgrade to surround sound later if you decide to. This will be 100x better than TV built in speakers.

We tend to recommend separate components as that allows for upgradeability in the future. Those edifier speakers are fine. Problem is if you want something better in the future you have to start from scratch. Those do have a subwoofer out so you can always add that in the future if needed.
SMSL SA300 $140
Fosi DA2120A $120
Either of those with:
Micca MB42X $89 a pair
Would probably sound better than the Edifier.
Then In the future you can still upgrade your speakers and reuse the amps.
Micca RB42 $150 a pair. I own these and honestly for music, even EDM, I feel like they have enough bass. Obviously my SVS PB12-NSD fills in the sound much better but on their own they are good enough
ELAC B6.2 $280 a pair. These are obviously very capable speakers.
In other words, get the Edifier if you wish, just understand in the future you might get the itch to upgrade, and you'll be starting from scratch

What is your budget? :) Here is an all in one: SMSL AD18
Here is what i rec though:
Headphones are pretty subjective, any idea what sound you like in headphone?
As far as speakers i love these: Micca RB42

You can do two sets of speakers but that onkyo is probably not going to like them both running at the same time. I think one decent set of speakers could do nicely for you. You can wall mount whatever you get to make them more child proof. The question is how large is too large for you wife? Going used is a great way to get gear at a good price. However, I don't like like linking used stuff but I'll give you some options to consider.
If we are looking at just a speaker upgrade here are some I would consider.
- Micca RB42 $150 - Smaller, good bass but not as loud as some. 80watts out of the Onkyo should be good to get these rocking pretty good. Make sure you have some room for the port to breath on the back side.
- Pioneer BS-22 $120 - An oldie but a goodie. This guy is well reviewed and should do nicely. I've seen them mounted on the wall and they aren't too bad. Good overall speaker.
- BIC DV62 $120 - These go low and get loud but they aren't small. If you can fit them these could rock pretty good.
- Boston A25 $120 - Medium sized book, rear port but these should sound pretty good. Big soft dome tweeter should give you a very smooth sound.
- Micca MB42X-C $140 - Get two center speakers and turn them side ways. They are bigger than some books but they are thin and do reward with a decent amount of low end.

If you need to go cheaper, pick some cheaper speaker from this list.
https://www.reddit.com/r/HTBuyingGuides/comments/dy8270/speaker_recommendations/
That will come out to around $400. I would strongly recommend spending a bit more on a subwoofer. Here is a link on why cheap subwoofers suck and you should skip out on it until you can spend more. I would aim for the RSL Speedwoofer 10s or something from Hsu/SVS.

They're actually relatively cheap for speakers, but they're passive so you'll need a DAC/Amp to make them work with your PC.
Micca RB42 About $150
SMSL AD18 DAC/Amp about $150
Amazon Basics Speaker Cable about $10
Banana Plugs (Not necessary but makes plugging and unplugging cables to the speakers easier) about $10
It's all a matter of connecting them properly. PC ==USB==> SMSL AD18 ==Copper Cable with Banana Plugs==>Speakers
Makes a whole world of difference compared to ordinary computer speakers or with those expensive Logitech sets.
Then I used some speaker wall mounts and mounted them to the wall using drywall anchor. They've been on for a few months now and they're still sturdy and stable into the wall. I used the big white drywall anchors for mine.
The monitor isn't wireless. As far as I'm concerned, there aren't any wireless monitors. I just have mine wall mounted then I used these to run the cables behind the wall.
Here's a how to run cables behind your wall safely.
Here's the wall mount I'm using.
For the speaker wires, I ran them behind the wall using a circular hole saw bit for my drill. Then I covered the holes with those plastic cable hole cover pass through things. Both bit and cover were bought from home depot. I used the same technique to run the cables under my desk through a hole through my desk.

nah, there are plenty of tiny amps these days.
for example,
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071JN7GXN/ $145 from SMSL
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BQC7GNL/ $76 from Fosi
no sub out on the Fosi.

invariably the next recommendation will be for Micca Rb42 speakers
https://www.amazon.com/Micca-RB42-Reference-Bookshelf-Speaker/dp/B07JC416LG/ $150 for the fancy ones
https://www.amazon.com/Micca-MB42X-Bookshelf-Speakers-Tweeter/dp/B00E7H8GG2/ $75 for the .. regular ? ones.
haven't heard either.
lots of folks on amazon very pleased, but if you search outside of buyer reviews, some folks are less impressed with them.
