This one by Mayflash. Set it to Wii U mode, and it functions identically to the official Nintendo one.

There's only really two good options as far as I know. The official Nintendo adapter or the Mayflash 4 port adapter. I'm pretty sure that Nintendo isn't making their adapter anymore or something, so I'd just get the Mayflash one.

slippi.gg has a Mac version available for download.
You shouldn't have any performance problems, Dolphin can run Melee at full speed on pretty much anything.
If you don't have one already get a Mayflash adapter, it'll let you use your GC controllers with Slippi. The Amazon page says it works with Mac.

Use the dolphin GameCube emulator to play the game.
Assuming you have a gc controller, you need an adapter like this one.
Then you just need a sa2b iso. Google around and you'll be able to find one

very easy. You just need an adapter, the nintendo switch gamecube adapter is official and works but is more expensive. The one me other folks use is this one.

Adapter this seems to be just like the one i got years ago when smash 4 came out however it says it’s updated for switch (which means nothing bc they’re the same as the wii u one) anyway these have a switch on the back for direct use on a pc and work just fine for me

Why not just buy a gamecube to usb adapter like this and just get the ROMs so you can use dolphin? Runs great and you'll save a bunch of money.

Still seems to be available on Amazon. I placed my order this morning.

The Mayflash 4 port specifically is your best bet. It's if anything a tiny bit better than the Nintendo adapter, it's cheaper, and the Smash community has been using it since before even Sm4sh so it's kinda the gold standard.
The official Nintendo adapter is perfectly fine, I use one, they're just much more expensive now. Some people use other third party adapters with no problems on Switch, but I wouldn't recommend them. For one, some have poor internals and increase your input lag. Plus lots of people in the Slippi discords and similar have trouble using adapters on their PC that aren't the Mayflash or Nintendo. Those two are the most compatible by far. Maybe you don't plan to use it on your PC now, but it's good to know yours can do it no problem.

This one wi work? https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=mayflash+gamecube+adapter&qid=1603219022&sprefix=mayflash&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A1EESPP75T7UHH&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExOTZSVkoyNlJLTUhPJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzY0Njc2MTRSSUpBTzVVVDhKWCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMzUzNjg4MTRWQlNUNUFFS0VIOSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX3Bob25lX3NlYXJjaF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl
(Sorry I have no idea how to shorten the URL lmao)

It would not because the Switch just recognizes it as a regular Switch controller. The Switch doesn’t know that a GameCube controller is technically plugged into it
So yeah, a wired GameCube adapter is your only option for analog input. It may be pretty difficult to find the official one, but Mayflash is a popular alternative

I might just end up getting this one instead:
Apparently, this works well for Stepmania.

Also here is the link to the exact one I own two of Link since I checked Amazon and it looks like there are a bunch of generic ones that show up before this one when you search for it

If you have a Mayflash Adapter then setting it to "PC" mode and plugging it into a USB port will register it as a generic gamepad input.
If you have the Wii U adapter sold by Nintendo themselves, however, it is incompatible with anything other than Nintendo Systems.

Are you looking correctly? On amazon US is 22 dollars. Mayflash GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U, PC USB and Switch, 4 Port https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9q39Eb7M4CRHG

yeah, you can check the tutorials on Smashladder for a guide on setting it up. you will need an adapter (preferably a mayflash adapter)
as for practice on a GC before you get all this extra stuff I suggest setting the CPU to 7 as this has the most random DI and just work on combos.
for neutral go into training mode and just work on spacing your attacks so either they barely hit or barely miss. change the cpu to walk around during this to practice against a "moving" target. just focus on getting a feel for distance and speed.
once you get the mayflash adapter you can set up 20xx and uncle punches training packs for more thorough training.

I use this personally, works great on PC mode. It's also the only 3rd party adapter recommended for Smash Bros if you are into that.

I noticed without the polling fix too. The polling fix just made it feel that little extra bit better. I think the way the the raphnet is emulated as a standard controller it just has a small bit of lag and the inputs on the stick aren't exactly the same as what they would be on console. The mayflash one when you set it up with the correct drivers makes dolphin think it's actually plugged into a gamecube/wii so it's got the exact same inputs as console without having to go through that extra emulation step. So input lag felt better and things like dashing back and shield dropping felt more consistent.
This is the adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RSXRLUE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And to get the drivers set up follow this guide: https://www.smashladder.com/guides/view/26oz/controller-guide-2-0

Dolphin emulator works really well although you will probably have to acquire the ROM in a slightly shady manner.

They both are Pelican (PL-9955) universal dance pads that I bought a long time ago.
The GameCube adapter link here.
Downloaded and installed Stepmania and the Simply Love theme on my laptop and use a projector to play.
Found StepmaniaOnline.net and download songs from there.

You can get a used black/indigo/platinum gamecube controller off of ebay for $40-50 after tax + shipping. Look for T3 versions with OEM sticks. OEM sticks have a small seam down the center of them.
Grab a 4-port mayflash gamecube adapter off of amazon for $20. https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/

Most (but not all) serious competitors use either an analog gamecube controller with an adapter (get this one or the official Nintendo one), or they use a USB plug-in controller with the gamecube layout like this. A pro controller also works, but the gamecube button layout really is best. Also, don't buy any third party controllers. They don't work as well and are much less durable.
My two biggest tips to start out are to 1) Keep playing and 2) Be patient with yourself. Getting good at this game is HARD, and takes time. It took me a year and a half until I got my main into elite smash for the first time. Sometimes you might feel like you aren't improving or that you'll be forever stuck at your current level, and neither of those things are true. Keep at it.

The hori ones are good for netplay if you have ufc. I used to play on a normal controller have a shit adapter that variated from 6 to 7 frames of lag and I had a hori one for ultimate so I used that one instead. I could shield drop consistently, do perfect wavedashes semi consistently, do hard tech consistently and overall even though the controller wasn't perfect it was pretty alright. the thing that is bad about them is the shield buttons aren't analog which means you cant light shield. Don't get a power a or any other brand third party controller apart from a b0xx or someshit as they are all dogshit terrible. Overall it is not expensive to get a good normal controller, here you can get a real gamecube controller for 30 bucks which is 10 dollars more than the hori one I use. The thing you do need for a gamecube controller is a good adaptor for pc which is another 20 bucks, the 2 I recommend is this mayflash one and this hitbox one.
