Just get a cheap one from amazon. Something like this works good. Magnasonic Professional Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner with Digital Timer for Eyeglasses, Rings, Coins (MGUC500) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007Q2M17K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lRlhFbWKQYCK5

I have a little sonic jewelry cleaner thing that I love. Moissy is a very durable stone so it's totally fine with sonic cleaning. I wouldn't use it with softer stones, costume jewelry, or plated metals though. This is the one I have.

I don't have one of these, but I work in a biology lab. If you're really concerned, I'd recommend that you look for a sonicator or sonication bath, such as this one:

Professional Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner

It's a small electric bath that uses ultrasonic vibration to break apart and shake loose organic buildup. These are used in dentists offices and such. If you sonicate your sound, rinse, and then boil, it will be as clean as brand new.

Not really. Sealed bearings are not sealed any better than serviceable ones. They're just cheaper to produce. You want to look for "storm" or "rustproof" bearings, but even still, those will also be susceptible to water and dirt contamination. They just have rubber shields that are slightly more snug against the inner race to deter entry. Not infallible, so they do require maintenance on occasion.

Or, you could just order a set of $15 bearings every few months. But that just seems wasteful.

One other option is to just spend a little money on a jewelry cleaner, and pry off one shield from each of your sealed bearings. Put 'em in the cleaner once in a while, dry 'em immediately with compressed air, lube, and re-install with the open sides facing into the wheel.

Not super familiar with ultrasonic cleaners. Should I be looking for any specific functionality? Would this one do the trick? Also, I assume the switches would need to be fully disassembled before cleaning?

Be careful though because it took some of the paint off of my husband’s glasses. The other glasses I cleaned are fine though.

If you will be in the hobby long you may want to get one of these for the home. It comes in handy for allot of other items.

I'd use the ultrasonic 1st to beat up the gunk and get most of the stuff broken up. Then like above use scrubbing bubbles with a soft bristle toothbrush then back in the ultrasonic. Then I use a barbacide soak for a day then another scrub with soap and toothbrush with a good rinse.

Ultrasonic cleaner ($40), isopropyl alcohol, and 5 minutes. It's like I never run out of models.

I use this one, $40: Magnasonic

Not too big (sits on a shelf in my bathroom). Works pretty well, never have any stains or scent or anything on my trays. Granted I change weekly. But I do drink a lot of beer and wine with them in (swishing water between sips usually).

I got my mom an ultra sonic cleaner for Christmas on year for jewelry just like this and it works insanely good. Run them through 4 or 5 times with just dish soap and they sparkle.

Do you have the titanium? I like to put it in a doob tube that’s metal so it has some weight. I throw a little iso snd baking soda. Then I toss it in a cheap ultrasonic for 4 minutes. Take it out, shake it up and rinse well.

Hi! Buy a jewlery cleaner! They’re $40 on Amazon and super useful. I use it for rings, my nose ring, earrings, necklace. It is great for cleaning eyeglasses too. Just add a drop of soap and it is sparkling.

They don't sell my exact model anymore but this is the one I'd buy now. Just be careful not to throw soft stones like opal or moonstone in it. Can crack em.

I went with this 600 ml Magnasonic unit on Amazon (thousands of reviews with 4.4 rating).

https://www.amazon.com/Magnasonic-Professional-Ultrasonic-Eyeglasses-MGUC500/dp/B007Q2M17K

It's been great. I use it to clean the Helio mouthpiece, ELBs and Vapexnails (all at the same time). With PBW and hot water it's a simple no brainer button press (or a few with nails) to get to perfectly clean results. No regrets here.

That's not a meaningful expense. Cleaning is steam, so any good cappuccino maker will suffice. An ultrasonic cleaner costs $39 on Amazon;https://www.amazon.com/Magnasonic-Professional-Ultrasonic-Eyeglasses-MGUC500/dp/B007Q2M17K/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1MNCNHCR1JRP2&dchild=1&keywords=ultrasonic+jewelry+cleaner&qid=1591748298&s=grocery&sprefix=ultrasonic+jew%2Cgrocery%2C144&sr=1-1-catcorr

Manufacturers defects are generally covered for life on all online products. Whatever additional repair or rhodium costs you may encounter will be insignificant compared to the premium of an old school jewelry store.

Get an ultrasonic cleaner for like $40 on amazon. So much easier than messing with tablets and it works better. I have this one, it has held up for 6 years now. I rinse my retainers after each use and then throw it in the ultrasonic once a week. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007Q2M17K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I figured I’d save some other the research I did over the last few weeks. Grobet is the best that is clear, it’s also hair on the pricy side—as TJ be expected.

Here is what I ended up buying.

Magnasonic Professional Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner with Digital Timer for Eyeglasses, Rings, Coins (MGUC500) https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007Q2M17K and the

Steamfast SF-1000 JULE Steam Jewelry Cleaner https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003W0C2HE

I will have the steam first at 58psi (professional grade models go up to 90psi-but are over $2,000). Then I’ll use the ultrasonic in a basket to get the rest off the diamond rings. In general, the rings are lightly cleaned weekly, so it’s more of getting off that daily lotion and dried sand sanitizer.

Appreciate all the help and tips!

I saw some of those really small cleaners on aliexpress for under 20 bucks. I found one on amazon that looks a bit bigger for $33. Seems big enough that it should hold anything i print in the mono.

Thats a good idea with the little sprayer. Sometime i get a little impatient with postprocessing stuff, so i'm trying to figure out the easiest way to clean these guys that wouldn't stink up my home office. Seems like that cleaner with some simple green or other cleaner should work well.

Love C&C - and you can clean it like you would any other piece of fine jewelry. I like to use Caribbean Gem cleaner. But you can also just use warm water, a little dish soap (like Dawn) & an old toothbrush :)

If you'd like, you can also get an ultrasonic cleaner off Amazon like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007Q2M17K/ref=sspa_mw_detail_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's great & makes everything look brand new :)

If you have something in yellow gold or platinum, I also like to use a Sunshine Cloth before cleaning, it really gets all the scratches & tiny nicks out of the metal: https://www.amazon.com/Sunshine-Polishing-Cloths-Jewelry-Cleaner/dp/B01MS7CS8G/ref=asc_df_B01MS7CS8G/

I use an ultrasonic with Blitz Jewelry Cleaner and distilled water (I run the machine twice and scrub the ring with a soft toothbrush in between the two cycles), followed up by my steam cleaner. I don't know if the steam cleaner is 100% necessary, the ultrasonic + Blitz alone seem to do good enough of a job on their own.

Personally, I can’t vouch for kits, they’re cheap and won’t last you through 2-3 watches. If you’re only interested in messing around, I can give you a list of the bare-bones tools, many of which I still use at my bench.

Jaxa Wrench ($10.79)

This will do, but save money and be on the lookout for the LG Jaxa Wrench, that’s by far the best and can be had at for under $50 if you’re patient.

Snap On Case Back Opener ($7.50)

Will open any snap on case back and also doubles as a spring bar tool.

Hand Remover ($12)

You could buy dial guards, but if you wrap a thin plastic bag around the hand pullers, it will do the same job. Try to get like a produce bag or something thin so you can still get a good grip.

Screwdrivers ($8.99)

Tweezers ($18.99)

Expensive, but you really cannot work with cheapo stainless steel tweezers, too soft and will bend crazy easy.

Watch Movement Holder ($11.87)

What you REALLY want are the old HR or C & E Marshall ones that are machined brass. Those are the real deal. You can find them around $20-$30 if you keep an eBay alert on. These aren’t great, but will do the job.

Oilers, Oil Cup, Oil, Grease & Loupe ($25)

I haven’t used this, but have heard good things, especially for the price.

There are MANY different types of oils by many different types of manufacturers. Some people like different oils, but Moebus is the most well-known. You really should have a separate oil for the mainspring, but I think the regular oil in the kit will work for a test drive, just don’t put too much.

Balance Tack ($8.83)

Ultrasonic Cleaner ($40)

Parts Baskets ($8.99 for 2)

Naphtha for Cleaning and Paint Thinner for Rinse (~$10/each at your hardware store)

How to Clean: (Please note, these fumes are not good to breathe in, do this outdoors and with a mask).

Step-Up: Disassemble watch (duh) and put parts in the small mesh baskets. Fill 1 glass jar with Naphtha for cleaner and 2 more with paint thinner (ideally, these jars should be a little shorter than the metal bin of the ultrasonic cleaner). The amount of each shouldn’t be much, just enough to cover the parts basket over with about 1cm.

Cleaning: Place the parts basket into the Naphtha jar, cover with the lid to prevent contamination. Fill the ultrasonic with water, place the jar into the ultrasonic and clean for 8-10 min. Once time is up, remove cover and use long tweezers or slotted spoon to fish out the parts basket. GENTLY shake off and let dry on something clean for 30 sec and dunk into one of the paint thinner jars 5 times. This is a ‘dip jar’ and is used to remove the cleaner and the remaining oils/gunk. Cleaner will gunk up just as bad as oil when dried up, so we want to remove it. Again, let GENTLY shake off excess and place into the final paint thinner jar, place cap on and place into ultrasonic and let run for 8-10 min.

Drying: Turn oven on to 225F, place parts basket into oven on clean oven tray and as soon as you close the door, turn off the oven. Let sit for 20-30min. Alternatively, you could place the parts basket on an oven tray and blow with blow dryer for ~15min.

Total Cost: $172.96
