Fucking idiots.

Look into buying earplugs. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes where you're bound to find a brand that fits your ears comfortably for 9 hours. That will take care of any issues you have with sleep and concentration at least. Otherwise, use headphones to watch TV.

use ear plugs. I use mack's ear plugs they are soft and comfortable. I sleep during the day (night worker) and need to drown out the CONSTANT basketball noises and the noises from people mowing their lawns. It works for me. Link to product

I am a fan of these plugs underneath muffs. Also, noise is a big reason why I always try to take new shooters outdoors to shoot and stick to .22 for the most part.

I don't mean to be trite but go down to the drug store and get yourself some earplugs. They are remarkably effective. I use them on construction sites. The block out lots of noise. The higher the dba number the better. Amazon link here https://www.amazon.com/Macks-Ultra-Soft-Foam-Earplugs/dp/B0051U7W32/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=ear+plugs&qid=1585421695&sr=8-5

Surprised I haven't seen these listed yet, cause I've been using them constantly for years-- they're my favorite: Mack's ultra soft foam Earplugs

I've used these on every trip I've taken, camping or not, for the past 10 years. Total lifesaver. I sound like an ad, but fuck it, I love these earplugs - comfy and block noise really well

There's also a smaller, purple "slim fit" version, which felt better, but was probably too small for me 'cause they didn't block the noise as well

Not OP, but I buy a cheap box of those foam earplugs that expand in your ears off amazon or at target before a trip and sleep in those. They’re inexpensive so if I lose them it’s no big deal, but they tend to stay in my ears all night and I toss and turn a lot. They are also surprisingly noise cancelling.

Edit: These or something similar https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0051U7W32/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_xn8IFb98T5WQ3

This, white noise from my fan(I put a timer for 4 hours) and melatonin to knock me out helps.

That sucks man. I use these to sleep sometimes and highly recommend. I haven't had to deal with construction, but I've slept through landscapers and my noisy asshole neighbor.

Try wearing ear plugs (foamies) under your ear pro at indoor ranges.

I double up with these and these. For the most part you get what you pay for. Go electronic if you're apt to need to hear what's around you, such as directions from an instructor or RSO.

I use Mack's Ultra Soft foam plugs. Super comfortable, yet very high noise reduction.

When out touring I find the more "standard" foam ones start hurting my ears after consecutive days of riding, but the ultra soft ones I can wear for two weeks straight without issue.

You can get 50 pair bottles on Amazon for $10.

One of the Buddha's instructions for meditation is to "go to a quiet place". He finds a deer park and other similar locations for his students to work in, places that were physically quiet. Given that you do not have the option to go to a place with less noise, I think it is valid to stop the noise from entering. I practice both with an without earplugs depending on the circumstances, and I haven't found it to be a big adjustment to do it one way or the other. What is much more difficult is practicing with distracting noises when you haven't developed your practice enough. Eventually your practice itself will become the quiet place regardless of what's going on around you, but for now, you should endeavor to make things more quiet. If that takes some earplugs I think it's worthwhile. It's certainly better than creating a whole different practice based on sounds. That might be a valid meditation technique, but it is not the technique you learned and started planting roots in. Ultimately, your path is your own, but I think it's worth giving the technique you learned a chance before going on to something else for which you only have the direction of books and people chatting on the internet. Below is a link to the earplugs I use, but anything that would block the sound is worthwhile.

> The question is what should I know or expect?

Honestly, the pandemic will probably have things so weird that I don't know how much any advice I have will apply. Even in ordinary conditions, what to expect depends a lot on the bands and the venue. You don't really know what you're in for until you're there.

Most people who go to shows are pretty chill. It's like any other big event. A few people might get rowdy, but on the whole things generally go very smoothly. Some crowds like to form pits, but I'm guessing there won't be much of one for any of the bands you mentioned. Even if there is, it's usually pretty easy to find and/or avoid depending on your preferences.

The venue size basically dictates your proximity to the band. Closer is better, but as long as you can see you should be fine. If the show is in a theater or concert hall, you're probably going to have to pay a lot more money to get near the front. Outdoor shows are generally a little less intimate and/or intense than indoor ones.

Last but not least, WEAR EAR PROTECTION!!! This cannot be overstated, especially if you play to go to more shows in the future. Bands play loud and metal shows will damage your hearing if you're not careful. Disposable foam ones like this (LINK) will probably suit you fine, but a lot of people go for nicer or reusable ones. These (LINK) are what I've currently got.

If you're worried about being able to hear the band, I can guarantee everything will still sound good. In fact, the sound techs are probably wearing ear protection too.

Well problem with my area is how loud and early the trash trucks come around and people playing loud music past midnight. So I use these at night.
