Unless you have some professional reason for needing 32 gigs of RAM, just save money and drop that to 16. For most uses (gaming and home office stuff) 16 is all you need. Take that money saved and buy a 1660 Super instead of the RX 580 - the 1660 Super is quite a bit faster.

>And I’m unsure if the MOBO will need to be flashed to work with the Ryzen.

It's fairly likely that it will come with the new BIOS as it's been quite a while since the Ryzen 3000 launch but it's not a guarantee. If you want to get something that's guaranteed to have the new BIOS I would just buy an MSI MAX board like the MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max, which is also about $25 cheaper than the Aorus Pro Wifi.

lmao love how newegg isn't any better than the scalpers.. slowly raising the prices. def giving them a bad image.. even tho they already sorta do.

i'd just keep waiting until it shows up at best buy or amazon for $115 or get the gaming plus max off amazon for 105 if you need a mobo now (it's in stock at the time of this post and has been for the past 26 hours).. it's the same but w/ tad bit worse vrms and no usb c https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XHH4YG4

also, i just got the b450 tomahawk max (i had the gaming plus max on order from amazon), from best buy earlier today, for 115.. so it's not like there aren't other buying options that aren't trying to gouge you.. just keep checking and refreshing

also the b550 tomawhawk is order-able https://www.newegg.com/msi-mag-b550-tomahawk/p/N82E16813144326

It gonna seem kind dumb but this is what I’m using: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Performance-Gaming-Crossfire-Motherboard/dp/B07XHH4YG4/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=msi+motherboard+amd&qid=1587755289&sprefix=msi+motherboard&sr=8-3

And you have to get the max for it to work with the 3600

Most boards do, it should say so in the description of the board though, or on amazon the Q&A section often helps. For example, this would ve a viable option: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Performance-Gaming-Crossfire-Motherboard/dp/B07XHH4YG4/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=b450+tomahawk+max&qid=1580927071&sprefix=b450+&sr=8-2

Thank you for this list. I'm really wanted to get an ATX mobo instead of this one and the one I want (B450 Tomahawk Max) is out of stock evreywhere.

How do you feel about this? B450 Gaming Plus Max Would it do well with my RAM and CPU?

I don't know if the BIOS on the ASROCK supports the 3600, someone else might be able to confirm.

I'm looking at this one to pair with a 3600 if I ever manage to get my hands on one.

From my understanding it has native support for the newer Ryzen cards out of the box.

Your best bet is to buy a motherboard that is either has and already updated bios. (Any msi board designated with MAX. Example below)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XHH4YG4/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_FOWNEbYF4A21H

Or get a board that you can load a bios from a USB stick. Which is somewhat rare I'm cheaper boards.

.

If the board doesn't have either of these, you would have to get a compatible CPU then update bios, then install the new CPU.

One more question, If I do deciede to buy a new Motherboard, I just need to check if it has support for 3rd gen amd ryzen correct? Like this one for example

i was looking at the tomahawk, thanks man

this one yea? it looks really nice, and is even a little cheaper. i was looking at this one originally, but some of the reviews put me off. however those issues people had in the reviews would not apply to me. you think it's the better buy?

So, after looking through Amazon, I found this MSI motherboard, which isn’t only $10 cheaper, but is compatible with 3rd gen Ryzen https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Performance-Gaming-Crossfire-Motherboard/dp/B07XHH4YG4/ref=sr_1_4?crid=20S6BJN80DADW&dchild=1&keywords=am4%2Bmotherboard&qid=1586584406&sprefix=AM4%2B%2Caps%2C235&sr=8-4&th=1. The ram and GPU you chose are a perfect choice for your build, as well as your choice for HDD and SSD, however if you wanted to save money, you could opt for a smaller SSD, like a 500gb, especially since your HDD is 2TB. As for the case, I won’t leave much of a comment, as everyone has their own opinions on case designs, and although you could save money there, I’d say get it if that’s the design you prefer. I’d say the 2 biggest places you can save money, are with the CPU cooler, which you can drop, and the PSU. This PSU is $20 cheaper, and is still semi modular, which I really recommend if this is your first build https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Bronze-Modular-Warranty-110-BQ-0600-K1/dp/B01MTJTO2O.

I have one last question, and thank you so much for taking the time to answer me.

Currently on amazon there are two differnet versions. "MSI Arsenal Gaming B450 MAX" https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Crossfire-Motherboard-Tomahawk-B450TOMAMAX/dp/B07WF6ZQST

And "MSI Performance Gaming B450 MAX" https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Performance-Gaming-Crossfire-Motherboard/dp/B07XHH4YG4/

I wanted to ask, what is the difference between those two and which one should i get? The first one is currently out of stock and comes in a bout a week. is it worth the wait?

Thanks!

While that would still be a upgrade, if you have the room in your budget I recommend trying to upgrade to a Ryzen cpu. I used to have a fx-8350 and even just upgrading to a Ryzen 3 2200g was a huge upgrade, the computers general task were so smooth. Loading times for things are very shortened. Ryzen is going to be around for a while as the plan on sticking with am4 for a while. A Ryzen 3 3200g cost $99 and add a new am4 motherboard, such as this one for $104. Still a good price for the performance you get. You would also have to upgrade your ram, because Ryzen doesn't support ddr3 ram, it supports the much faster ddr4. This is what I have.

$1000-$1200 gaming build from micro center

https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/custom-pc-builder.aspx?load=77feb2f1-0d3b-48a0-9a6a-ccdd9561c12e

here is a copy of my build, I plan on buying most of my parts from micro center like the motherboard and processor.

The only issue I have is finding a good 2060 super or 2070 card.

I know the motherboard is a bit pricey and might be overkill for my needs, but I have trouble finding alternatives like like tomhawk max, and would like something with wifi

they do have this version though in stock.

notes this is my first build, so I;m trying to keep things basic, but feel free to make changes or use other links beside micro center.

They are both good motherboards, the X570 or even a B550 model will offer the faster PCI Express 4.0 standard, which is double the bandwidth of the PCI Express 3.0 on the B450/X470 boards. If you're shopping on amazon mainly, here's some suggestions:

  1. MSI B450 Gaming Plus MAX (same as Tomahawk, but without a single USB Type-C connector on the back IO).
  2. ASRock B550 Pro 4 Similar to the B450 boards, better onboard Audio and PCI Express 4.0.
  3. MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus Also similar to B450 boards, even better onboard Audio than the ASRock B550 and of course PCI Express 4.0.
  4. Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming Best LAN for online gaming, and best Audio. PCI Express 4.0.

Hi u/ColeHanz,

I had a question about the Ryzen 5 3600. I'm having trouble finding a mobo with a compatible bios already installed. PC part picker brings up the error: Some AMD B450 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Matisse CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions

I don't have an older AMD chip to upgrade the bios with.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XwQtWb

Edit: It looks like the MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max* comes compatible

Part list help

Hey all! I've been into PC's since I was like 12 (back when the 980ti was king, I'm young) and am finally going to upgrade from a Core 2 Quad/750ti optiplex I put together a few years ago. I have my parts list but I have a couple questions.

Here is my list (doing all my shopping on Amazon):

Ryzen 5 1600AF (the refresh) $85

Corsair CX Series 550 Watt Non Modular $69 nice

XFX 5600xt $279

MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max $105

Segate Barracuda 2TB $50

16GB Corsair Vengance 3200mhz C16 $78

I already have a 240 gig SSD, so I don't need another at the moment. Is this list all good? What case would you guys recommend for about 50-60 dollars? And one final thing, is there a better power supply I could get at this price point?

My main plan for this rig is to stick with the 1600 and eventually upgrade to a 3600x or 4600x if/when that becomes a thing. Then I'll be handing it down to my little brother who I hope to get a budget AM4 rig soon.

I mainly play CSGO, flight sims and with this new rig I'd also start playing AAA titles.

Thank you guys!

$200 max for both cpu and motherboard?

i got you ...

CPU

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XTQZJ28/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

MOBO

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Performance-Gaming-Crossfire-Motherboard/dp/B07XHH4YG4/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=b450&qid=1585972243&s=electronics&sr=1-5

dont let the name fool you, that CPU is actually a second gen ryzen 5 (dont ask me .. there are 100 youtube videos on it, Ryzen 5 1600AF)

and the motherboard has all the basics you need, plus some extras, and a nice upgrade4 path for the CPU if you choose so later.

doesnt have to be those exact parts, but those are good ones ive personally used in the past on PC builds

Definitely look into PCPartPicker.com. They do a fantastic job of allowing you to customize your own builds without much knowledge of specific parts.

MoBo:
For the motherboard, the B450 Gaming Plus Max from MSI is a pretty unknown one that definitely gets the job done, for a pretty cheap price too. The only downside is that you will need to install a WiFi/Bluetooth stick into one of the PCIe slots, but with a usual sized GPU (like the one I will recommend) this shouldn't be an issue. Do a little research on the motherboard though, because this is arguably what makes or breaks your build, and finding the one for you is definitely important.
https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Performance-Gaming-Crossfire-Motherboard/dp/B07XHH4YG4/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=msi+b450+gaming+plus+max&qid=1594944549&s=electronics&sr=1-1

CPU:
My go-to processor for budget builds is definitely the Ryzen 5 3600. It's a fantastic processor that comes with a more than capable air cooler (The Stealth Wraith). I have one in my build, and I never reach past 25% usage by playing any modern game on high graphics.
https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-3600-12-Thread-Processor/dp/B07STGGQ18

GPU:
I am a huge fan of NVIDIA's RTX series GPUs. The 2070 Super is the one I currently have in my build, but it's on the more expensive end for a budget build. With an RTX 2060, you will definitely be able to run the games listed on medium to high graphics, but in order to play upcoming games on high graphics settings, a stronger GPU will definitely be required. The 2060 is more than enough to be able to run these games baseline, though. https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GeForce-RTX-2060-VENTUS/dp/B07PBLD2MX/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=GeForce+RTX+2060&qid=1594944496&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_five_browse-bin%3A6147187011&s=pc&sr=1-1

RAM:
For RAM, most people recommend 16GB but I am a strong advocate for 32+ if you have any interest in coding. 32GB of RAM will still be cautious of your budget, so I'd say to go for 2x16. Technically, going for 4x8 sticks of RAM will give you better performance, but will also be more expensive at the end of the day. I'll recommend the Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x16 RAM sticks to you because Corsair is definitely a reputable manufacturer and the Vengeance sticks are definitely more than capable. Here you go: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016ORTNI2?tag=duckduckgo-d-20&linkCode=osi&th=1&psc=1

The case is completely up to you. The only thing that is necessary under this category is that each of these pieces fit in the case. Use PCPartPicker.com to put in your case, then follow through and enter these pieces to make sure they fit the case you choose. One more piece of advice for the case: read the reviews, and watch 1-2 YouTube videos before you buy it.

Definitely let me know what you decide to do. Good luck!

With an $1800 budget, I assume you need the highest grade systems. You could probably get away with lower depending on what games you want to play:

A 2070 Super is one of the best GPUs out now. It has raytracing abilities if you're interested. It can handle most games at ultra settings easily (video for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPoWSUsbQCQ).

I'm personally of the opinion that keyboards and the actual case is dependent on the person, so I chose some that may have worked for you, but ultimately you probably should change them so they fit your needs. W10 is $100, and the monitor is $300. However it is 2560x1440 and runs on 155hz, so that'll be good. If you don't need that, you can downgrade it and cut the price of the monitor in half.
