The MSI PS63 Modern-008 would be a good option to look at. The PS63 is powerful enough to manage your editing and school needs. It has a clean and professional look so you can take it anywhere without sticking out as a gamer. It has a dual-fan step up to keep the laptop cool and you can adjust the fans with software if it is too loud for you. It is well built as it body is very sturdy and the screen has little flex. Battery wise you can get around 12hrs of use after a full charge which is rare for a laptop with this much power. It has over 90% sRGB rating which is great for editing.

I think the asus TUF-FX505 that you mentioned is a good laptop for what you're looking for, there's also [MSI PS63] (https://www.amazon.com/MSI-PS63-Modern-008-15-6-FHD-i7-8565U/dp/B07PHMYDZJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Msi+ps63&qid=1584749381&sr=8-3) which has a 16 hour battery life but performs less than mentioned laptops.

This one has good specs for the money - i7, 16GB RAM, thin, light and great battery life.

Hi, the MSI PS63 Modern is a good choice for you. Great balance between performance, battery life, and weight. i7 processor + GTX 1050 Ti MQ combination should be fine for you. 9 hours of battery life and weight of 3.5lbs.

If you don't mind spending $900ish here's a MSI prestige laptop you do only get half a terabyte worth of storage. So you might want a spare external SSD. But pretty good performance.

Understood, Performance wise they are pretty good too. With specs like these: Intel Core i7-8565U GTX1050Ti 16GB DDR4 512GB SSD Win10 for the MSI PS63 Modern-008 will manage your general usage + light gaming and still boot smoothly on command. What kind of laptop do you currently own?

Ordered this a few days ago, the 1050ti/16GB version is on sale on amazon for $900 right now. It has decent benchmarks for gaming and is part of MSI’s creator line.
Cons (according to reviews) are:
no thunderbolt 3 or usb c charging (but does have a usb c port), it’s been reported that the screen is not very bright, but if you’re not working outdoors then you’ll be fine, plus it has an anti glare screen. MicroSD slot. No Ethernet port, but you can get an adapter or dock for the usb c. The speakers kind of suck.
The laptop is thin, lightweight, and has a good amount of power, plus doesn’t look like an 18 year old’s gaming laptop. It’s geared towards professionalism. If you buy on amazon, the 4 year protection plan by amazon is definitely worth it also for only $100. Also has an extra RAM slot to upgrade, plus an extra ssd slot.

The one I am recommending, This MSI config I am saying I think it is your best option, so if you can wait for it then you should, but if you can't wait then let me know and I will look for other options.

How about this: MSI PS63
It is well built, has great battery life, and meets all your other requirements. Dave Lee really likes it too.

I think the MSI Ps63 is your best option and you should be able to get 8 Hrs. of average use depending on the battery size and the specs of the laptop and you could even push it more if you lower the screen brightness and would also recommend this configuration it's currently on sale .

Is the MSI PS63 Modern still overpriced in your opinion? I am looking at the MSI Prestige 14 A10SC-051 White 14" Ultra Thin and Light Professional Laptop Intel Core i7-10710U GTX1650 MAX-Q 16GB DDR4 512GB NVMe SSD Win10Pro version on Amazon right now and the $1,371.75 price seems decent to me in comparison to other laptops with similar specs, but maybe that is because all prices are inflated.

Looking at two different MSI PS63 Moderns on Amazon, one is the link that you posted and the other is here. Would a boost in the RAM, 8GB to 16GB, justify a $50 price bump?
1 points • bloodtalon_1
What about this one, which is the same except 32 GB RAM for $120 more? Do you think the 16 GB RAM could bottleneck and this is better without lowering battery life or not a significant difference in performance/lower battery life?

Hi, thanks for the reply! I was browsing some other posts and information and have seen this recommended a couple times. I have also see the [MSI PS63 Modern](https://www.amazon.com/MSI-PS63-Modern-008-15-6-FHD-i7-8565U/dp/B07PHMYDZJ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=112ODVULLRNR6&keywords=msi+ps63+modern&qid=1583094008&s=electronics&sprefix=msi+ps%2Celectronics%2C176&sr=1-3) recommended. I am thinking about going with the MSI. Any thoughts?

Well the msi prestige ps63 is a right fit, 1050ti for little gaming, i7 8565u good for some editing and coding. It is also the right weight for portability.

One excellent choice would be a Thinkpad X1 Extreme although even the base model goes a bit over your budget. It's has a great mix of portability and power weighing in at 4 lbs and having a GTX 1650 GPU and 4/6-core processor. It also has a pretty damn long battery life, great display quality, and one of the best keyboards on the market.
You could also consider a base model Dell XPS 15, as someone else mentioned, but it'll also top out your budget. I've also found the keyboard on the XPS 15 to be pretty mediocre and mushy. Dell seems to be have updated the keyboards in the new 2020 models though.
You could also consider an MSI PS63. It too combines the best of portability and power but without quite as high of a build quality as the XPS and the Thinkpad.

I recommend you consider the 3.6lbs 15.6" MSI PS63 Modern-008 with an 8th gen i7-8565u CPU, 16GB of RAM, 512GB SSD, 1080p screen and a GTX 1050 Ti MaxQ GPU. It sells for $909. It's 82WHr battery allows for over 10 hours of battery life on light usage... i.e. no gaming.

Note that there are no 9th gen Intel "U" CPUs; 9th gen CPUs are all "H" model performance CPUs. The GTX 1050 Ti MaxQ is basically considered an entry level gaming GPU since nVidia released the new entry level gaming GTX 1650 GPU which is a little more powerful than a normal GTX 1050 Ti.

I just found one of these MSI P63's, but for $1,329 not $850-900 like they were going for a couple months ago, so didn't pull the trigger.

What do you think of these, at $899? I still need to check if the USB C is display capable...
