Looking for a Gaming Laptop
Hello! I'm trying to buy a new gaming laptop, so if you know a thing or two, please help me out!

These are some of the laptops I am currently considering:

My budget would be any price under $1000, and I would like my laptop screen to be 15.6" or smaller. Weight and battery life are not too important, but lighter and longer would be preferable. For your information, I mainly play World of Warcraft (retail version) and Valorant.

It seems that EVOO Gaming Laptop has the best specs out of the three, but I don't know how reliable it would be (especially longterm). Let me know if you know anything about this laptop.

Overall, I am pretty flexible with the specs. I am okay with 8gb ram and low-capacity SSD since I can always upgrade those later. I just want a reliable/trustworthy laptop that can run games smoothly when I am away from home. Let me know which of those three you think is the best, or I am also open to any suggestions! Thanks a lot!

It will be fine for light to medium work with Eevee but any rendering with Cycles will be slow. If i was buying a laptop then something like this with Nvidia GPU is where id start.

Yes it will play gta v even on full resolution. But gta v is from 2014. Most likely you won't be able to play the new gta. Gpus in laptops can't be upgraded. But the SSD can be upgraded although it's better to just use an external hard drive.
Take a look at this: https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Ideapad-i5-9300H-Processor-81LK00HDUS/dp/B07VC55LF5/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=ideapad&qid=1588878508&sr=8-3

Hey. with your budget id suggest you get this Lenovo Ideapad L340 Gaming Laptop which i believe will easily run those tasks you mentioned without hiccups.

Okay that explanation did help a lot so thank you.
I found a similar machine to the MSI and I was wondering what you thought if it. It's a little bit cheaper but it seems to have the same specs, more storage and a better display. Can I get your opinion on it?

Slightly over budget but you might find one cheaper, I paid $625 for one in December.
Better processor, better graphics card, better screen. My kid uses it for fortnite too, gets 50-60 FPS on low / medium settings which isn’t bad for a budget laptop.

As others have said that specific laptop is overkill strictly for MapleStory. However, if you see yourself doing a bit more intensive pc gaming then there are better choices.
(Check out the free game findings reddit and games like gta 5, borderlands etc, will be free on a respective retailer for a limited time.)
I’m assuming you in the U.S because you linked the .com Best Buy link. If so, here is an amazon laptop that is 10 more (739)than the one you listed (also better than the 749 version on the best buy site).
https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Ideapad-i5-9300H-Processor-81LK00HDUS/dp/B07VC55LF5/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=1070+laptop&qid=1591449210&s=pc&sprefix=1070&sr=1-5
If you can, my personal advice is to wait until this pandemic is over. Pc parts (used and new) are jacked the fuck up and I am sure the same thing is happening to laptops. If you cannot wait, then I would suggest you find a laptop that is slightly cosmetically damaged (e.g. scratches to the body only) if your comfortable with it.
Cosmetic damage can knock off 50 -200+ on some laptops but good deals are harder to find on amazon. I personally have a slightly scratched acer nitro that I got for 500 (Canadian dollars). It was a bitch to find but worth it for my needs in the end. I’ll keep looking if your willing to wait a while.
The nice thing about amazon used is that you can return it within 30 days no questions asked if needed. You just need to be stress test it early on via benchmarking etc.

Check out the Lenovo Ideapad L340. It is a powerful laptop that is fully able to run all the programs you want. I own a version of this laptop and I am very pleased with its performance. Its battery life is between 4-6 hrs depending on my use. I have used puppylunx and it (my fav distro) and it works well. Build wise it is very sturdy, I have dropped mine a few times and the only a small piece of the case broke. It gets warm when gaming but nothing too intense

Another choice also within your price range: Lenovo Ideapad L340 Gaming. It seems to work with Linux.
Also, for any laptop with Nvidia graphics, you could have painful problems if the installer does not include proprietary Nvidia driver (nouveau, the open-source driver that comes in the kernel, is quite terrible with recent Nvidia GPUs and could cause crashes). The easiest way to solve this would be simply to use Pop!_OS or Manjaro, which both include proprietary drivers (for Manjaro, you have to choose it in GRUB menu before you boot into it from USB - it's pretty obvious, choose proprietary instead of open drivers. No idea for Pop!_OS, if you have to do anything like this it should be quite obvious). Afaik Ubuntu also should install proprietary drivers if it detects Nvidia GPU, but I'm not 100% sure about this part.

The razer laptops have variants with good graphics cards but I’ve heard bad things about them since they seem to run hot. For under $1k, a gtx 1650 is good enough for the light games that your cousin will be playing and will be able to run everything pretty well. Example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VC55LF5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1yDdFbRB33CW6
For over $1k, a 1660 ti or an rtx 2060 is ideal. If you can get an Asus Zephyrus g15, it is pretty good (keep an eye out for unusual thermals). If you can afford it, the Zephyrus g14 is probably the best option for mobility since it’s a powerful laptop with great battery life in a 14” thin body. The g14 is $1400 or so though.
Whatever you decide to get on that spectrum, make sure the reviews are good and check out video reviews of them on youtube
Also, you can get very good desktop pcs for this budget. If space is an issue, maybe look into mini pcs and mini itx builds.

Hey, need some quick suggestions from more people more experienced with pc hardware.
Or
Laptop 2. If I configure it on the Lenovo site I would have access to Lenovo's 10% off for veterans
Main use would be light gaming (rocket league, old school RuneScape, emulation) or video editing, Photoshop, and studying for the CompTIA+ exam.
Any thoughts? My main questions are
Is a 1660ti worth spending $100 or so extra dollars over a 1050. Same goes for the i5-9300h vs Ryzen 7-R7-3750h. Or would it be better to hold off for two weeks and get the Helios 300 with a 1660ti and i7?

Deciding on new laptop
Hi there, ive been looking for a good gaming laptop but a laptop that will also help me in my career field which is electrical engineering. Ive looked at 2 different laptops, and i would like to start gaming, i want to be able to play most games at 60 fps and not have to worry about anything, but i also want the most bang for my buck. I have two laptops that im stuck between. The lenovo L340. lenovo l340 and the legion y540, lenovo y540. The price difference is a lot, im getting the L340 for 700 and the Y540 would be the model that is 1700 but is 500 dollars off currently. Model is 81SX00WLUS. So basically 700 compared to 1200. I need some input, or some other really good budget gaming laptops

Heya,
Sorry to hear about that, I hope you find peace with your new situation/a job soon, whichever is more apt for ya. I've been looking around and the Lenovo L340 seems to be quite a value choice and JarrodsTech has already done an Upgrade video on it too.
Not too sure how long it will take to unscrew but hey at least it's documented and he goes step by step? The only couple of things that can't be changed are the Processor and GPU though. Plus it doesn't look too edgy which I kinda dig.
Hope this helps!

I would recommend you this laptop, it has a 1650 and it would easily get to 60Fps on Low/Medium graphic settings: https://www.reddit.com/r/LaptopDeals/comments/ese3wd/asus_tuf_gaming_fx505gt_156_fhd_i59300h_nvidia/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Or
take a look at the EVOO Gaming laptop, although it's a new brand from Walmart and we don't know how reliable they are.
EDIT: Another reaaally good option is the Lenovo L340. https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Ideapad-i5-9300H-Processor-81LK00HDUS/dp/B07VC55LF5

I would prefer a couple things:

- Preferably an i5-9300h at a minimum or better yet an i7-9750h
- 16 GB of ram is nice if you can get it, but you might just be able to figure out if it is single or dual channel
-Display is alright, most people would want 144hz but im not sure what your uses are for it.
-Less than stellar storage, you're likely going to want more
this feels like a better option in the same price range despite single channel for ram
1 points • AmroCube
For that price point you can get the Asus TUF FX505DT with a ryzen 5 3550H and gtx 1650.
Or if you just squeeze a few extra bucks you can get Lenovo Ideapad L340 With the 9th gen core i5 and gtx 1650.
Both come with a 15.6" (1920x1080) display but the asus has a refresh rate of 120hz. Both come with an 8 GB drr4 ram. Both come with NVME, 256 GB for asus, and 512 for Lenovo.
1 points • 98bballstar
Check this one out HERE
Though, the storage on it is pretty low at 512gb, but its a fast nvme ssd. But like, if you wanna play warzone, that's like half the storage right there. So idk if an external HDD is something that could work for that or other large games if you don't want it on the ssd
There are also videos on youtube showing the same cpu and gpu, how it plays games. HERE
make sure you look for i5-9300H and GTX 1650
Also, check in the discord mentioned by the AutoModerator

I really admire how you're committing so much time to this, if she has to move houses a lot due to a divorce or something then a laptop is the way to go. Gaming laptops are bulky, many have heating issues, battery life sucks isn't great, but if she wants one then why not.
I did a bit of researching and the $895 Lenovo Ideapad L340 15.6" Core i5-9300H GTX1650 8GB Memory 512 GB SSD seems like a great choice, although a little over budget.
IF you're willing to spend an extra $100, the MSI Creator 15M 15.6" 120hz Core i5-9300H GTX1660Ti 8GB Memory 256 GB NVME SSD it's not needed but the 1660-Ti is nearly twice as powerful as the 1650 from what I can tell.
I recommend going on /r/SuggestALaptop though! They're way more knowledgeable than me.

Yeah I think the processor is kinda bad. And I'd look elsewhere than amazon, it looks like it's more expensive than in other (Czech) stores This would match your budget for example (18 000 CZK is approx 670€), but on amazon it's 750€
Although check the other subreddit, as I am no expert either. Good luck.

Slap in a extra 8 gbs and you'll be in business, I've seen it on sale at bestbuy for $649 so keep a lookout there.

For something a little more high end this one is pretty sweet, again pick up another 8gbs of memory for this one too.

The GPD Win MAX should only be bought as a secondary device IMO. You sacrifice far too much to get that form factor.
For 850 dollars, you can get a laptop that will absolutely wipe the floor with it:

And if you don't need portability at all, you could build an even better desktop.
I love the MAX and can't wait for mine to arrive, but I already have a desktop, a gaming laptop AND an ultrabook.
I would not want the WIN as my primary device.

I really appreciate your time and if I could bother to ask you a follow up question I would be very grateful. I have been really far removed from computer the last 5 years or so. Could you please give me your reasoning on why this is a better choice than This MSI with a newer processor, or this Lenovo L340 that seems to be highly rated?

The Lenovo isn't bad but you would be better off going with the cheaper model that only has 8GB of ram and adding another 8GB stick yourself. The stick would cost you far less than the price difference. Anyway the L340 is an okay device if you want something relatively thin with muted aesthetics, but otherwise there are arguably better options out there.
The higher end Lenovo Y540 would have quite a bit better build quality and its specs are about equal to the L340. You would once again likely want to add an 8GB stick but it's fairly easy if you look up tutorials. The battery life and performance will also be a bit better on the Y540.
Other options to consider are the MSI GF63 and the Dell G3 (although beware it has a horrible display).

Sure,

Here's what I was looking at:

That said the laptop I'm looking for is meant more to be a sidekick to a Macbook Pro so I'm not really sure how powerful I need it...I do love the look of these MSi modern/prestiges though.

Edit: Oh, I was also looking at this: https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Ideapad-i5-9300H-Processor-81LK00HDUS/dp/B07VC55LF5/ref=sr_1_17?dchild=1&keywords=Lenovo+Ideapad&qid=1588094945&s=electronics&sr=1-17 Not sure if it's any good though. It's the only laptop that I think matches the look that I'm hoping for. Work acceptable but a little more exciting than say a dell or Asus.

Thanks a ton!

I'm also looking to buy a new laptop, but amazon is closed in India. I'd recommend at least a GTX 16 series laptop, and try to avoid the laptops the the Ryzen 3000 series chips.
For now, you'll probably find a laptop with a GTX 1650 which can play most games at high qt 1080p, at above 60 fps. But if you're willing to increase your price range to $1,000, you'll probably be able to get a laptop with a GTX 1660 TI, which will allow you to play games at ultra settings.
