If you aren't absolutely married with the idea of the detachable keyboard or this smaller 10 inch form factor... might I recommend this lenovo 2-in-1? It's actually less than you would pay for the SG combo (it also includes the pen), and the processor in the lenovo absolutely demolishes the one in the SG. Only thing is you won't get as good of build quality with the lenovo, but it should still be decent enough.

Little over your budget but it should be a good fit. Also search around for one with 8gb ram /128gb nvme drive should be under 500. I don't have a ton of time right now. Cheers. Should work great with linux, works great for me with mint/cinnamon but I haven't tried to get fingerprint reader working...only hassle and doesn't bother me. Might be possible.

Laptop recommendations for Drawing/Lite gaming?
With quarantine going on I figured to start drawing again but have grown tired of using my Wacom/using my brothers desktop to the point where I’d rather get my own device
I was debating just getting an iPad with an Apple Pencil and calling it a day but figured a PC would be more useful and versatile
I’ve recently purchased this 2 in 1 through amazon which is on its way on Wednesday https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TWHYTSQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Ti6MEb2GMQ0M7 but am having second thoughts after reading through some reviews that the battery life wasn’t the greatest, I don’t have my hands on it yet I’m considering cancelling the order because of it
Which led me to here to ask if you guys have any recommendations on a laptop (preferably in the $700 and under range) that would work great as a drawing tablet as well as maybe doing lite gaming on the side
I appreciate if you stuck reading through all this haha

The Lenovo Flex 14 I just got should be perfect for that. It has a Ryzen 5 3500U, which has been plenty performant so far. The touch screen works great with GNOME on Arch Linux, and the stylus works as well. The only problem with it so far is that the accelerometer doesn't work, so no automatic orientation switching, and also the fingerprint worker doesn't have a driver. Those aren't big issues for me, but I thought you should know.

Screen Size : 14 inches
Processor : 2.1 GHz AMD R Series
Graphics : AMD Radeon Vega 8
RAM : 12 GB
Weight : 3.52 lbs
Storage Type : 256 GB SSD
Comments: A basic 2 in 1 laptop ideal for students to take from class to class to take notes and perform light productivity tasks. It has a decent build quality for its price and its specs are good enough for multitasking and having lots of tabs open. If your budget is less or more let me know and I will recommend something else

Hi, my recommendation is the Lenovo Flex 14 since it is a 2-in-1 device that can run both photo editing software, light games, and general use programs. It is also touchscreen. Battery life should be decent and the integrated graphics are pretty good, which is nice for light games.

Between the two I would go with this one.

For school I would recommend the Lenovo flex 14 it has a Quad core Ryzen CPU, 12GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB NVMe SSD and it comes with the Pen .
The laptop only weighs 3.6lbs. and has a decent build quality .

◽️ Budget: Under $600
◽️ Country: USA
◽️ Screen size: More than 11", less than 15"
◽️ Touch screen: Would be nice, but not entirely necessary
◽️ Screen resolution: 1920x1080 only, absolutely no need for 1440p or 4k even.
◽️ Does battery life matter?: Yes, but not to the extent of like an entire day at full brightness with background apps running
◽️ What tasks will laptop be used for: Everyday college student with high performance and decent battery. Note-taking, watching podcasts, typing essays, maybe some 2D graphic design if I get around to it (i.e. GIMP, Photoshop).
◽️ Weight: I dunno, less than like 3 lbs? Or something.
◽️ Any other important details: I have one that I'm eyeing right now, but I'd like to see if anyone has any other suggestions. Expandable storage/RAM would be nice; I built a PC recently and I'm spoiled by the 1TB SSD/16GB RAM life.

Hmm is it actually from the Lonovo store? I ask cause I’m seriously about to buy it and don’t want to get scammed, and want a good machine. It’s funny cause one with less ram and less of a processor is more money. Is it just a good deal?

Went through amazon and found this lenovo laptop, any reported issues on linux compatibility?
1 points • BlueSwordM
Well, that would depend if you were to wait a bit for Ryzen 4000 APUs to come out later this year.
Otherwise, something like this would be pretty decent for good battery life and performance: https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Convertible-Touchscreen-Processor-81SS000DUS/dp/B07TWHYTSQ/
You are going to be a bit limited by your GPU, but if you use Vulkan and have dual channel memory, you should be fine.
Anyway, for best price to performance

Hi, as these are fairly normal tasks, I believe the Lenovo Flex 14 2 in 1 would be a great fit. It sports a Ryzen 5 processor, and also has the added bonus of having a pen and touch screen.

I just got this, it's only 14 inches but it's a really great and versatile machine, and handles graphics really well. Comes with a touchscreen and pencil and folds over into a tablet...good for note taking, etc. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TWHYTSQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's got great reviews and I'm really happy with it. You can check out some reviews on YouTube..

Imo I'd wait until the back to school sales. The new generations of cpus are coming out. If you do decide to wait I'd look into the ryzen 4000 chips they should be monsters when they fully roll out.
If you are looking for something to buy today I recommend this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TWHYTSQ/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_bzhOEb5VP04Q1
The amd processor is gonna give you better graphics perfomance then any surface except for the surface book. And unless you move up to a mb pro the graphics are just as good.
The downside is the battery life is not as good
And I'm not sure how color accurate the screen is.
It also comes w a pen. That listing is for a used one, new they are about $720
I dont recommend either a macbook or a surface because they are expensive and cant be repaired easily. (I'm a tech btw)

I own this which is very similar although a bit older. Bought it last year for traveling. Lenovo Flex 2in1 14" - AMD R5 3500U - 12GB RAM
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TWHYTSQ/
At 1080p and every setting on it's absolute lowest, I get around 30-60fps, but that drops heavily in cities and dungeons, it's great for simple things like doing writs and survey runs though. I use it as a last resort since it's just a 2in1 and I have a gaming pc for the heavy lifting, which I can just stream from using Steam Remote Play. Using that there is a slight delay but I get a solid 60fps (locked due to laptop screen being 60hz) which all high settings @1080p.

is the only difference the ram difference that you can tell? waiting for it to come back in stock isnt really an option, and i did just find this laptop too thats a bit cheaper and still has a decent cpu and 12gb ram.
edit: oh wait just realized this is basically what you sent but a 3500u instead of a 4500u nice

What do you think of the Lenovo Flex 14 2-in-1 Convertible Laptop? Is it too weak to handle what I want? I love the style / touchscreen aspects despite it being a little heavier.
1 points • rod608
I’d probably go for this variant of the Lenovo Flex 14
1 points • T-Store
I think this Lenovo flex would be a good option, as it has an extremely good battery life up to 10 hours, it weighs 3.5 pounds which is light to be carried and as you stated it will be carried for college, also includes HDMI, USB-C, and USB 3.1 ports.
1 points • flashcloth46
Expensive for the CPU you can get a laptop with a ryzen 5 for about the same price like this Lenovo Flex 14
3 points • redbeard1083
I recently went through helping a friend with a similar budget and we landed on this: https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Convertible-Touchscreen-Processor-81SS000DUS/
far more power than you'd get in a comparable chromebook, more ram, more storage, the integrated vega GPU can actually play some decent games fairly well as long as you think 720p medium to low settings. the ryzen 3500u is no slouch. my, now main, laptop is also a 3500u and it is awesome bang for buck. although seeing how badass the new 4000 series mobile ryzens are, if you can wait for one of those, that may be the way to go.

Can anyone give me a little nudge for this vs the Lenovo with a 3500U but Vega 8? Obv there is also the RAM thing, but that aside. I'm wondering if the improved GPU is going to be better or worse than a trade for the processor.

For what it’s worth, I just bought my wife this laptop for exactly what you’re describing, and it’s working well. You might find it slightly cheaper, or with an additional HDD elsewhere.

Rate my first time build!
Hello, r/buildapc reddit!
I've been gaming on a fairly nice Alienware Laptop and I'm ready to transition to an upgradable desktop PC and a smaller laptop for day-to-day/classes. And yes I know about Alienware being overpriced, but I had a good roll of deals on a Black Friday when I got it.
Anyway, I'm working on my first build with a base budget of ~$1800 for the base machine and excluding the peripherals and I was wondering if what I've chosen is "good" or not. Course "good" is a loose term, but I'm really just looking to make sure that I'm; 1. Getting the most bang for my buck, 2. Not getting overpriced items, and 3. Is there anything I could change up to make it better?
Build:

Also, if anyone has gotten this laptop feel free to comment on it as well as if there are better/cheaper alternatives that'd be much appreciated!

So I'm looking at a 2in1 laptop for general use(browsing and video) and note taking. Should I go for the cheaper Ryzen 5($531) or more pricier 10th gen i5($679)? Thanks in advance.

There's a lot of great bang for buck you can get in that price range, but from my looking, the biggest hold up seems to be the screen size. If you want something more usable, you're gonna need to sacrifice for a bigger screen. That being said, I'd take a look at this. It's the higher end variant of the laptop I've been using, but with it's bump in RAM and switch to Ryzen, that laptop would perform even better than mine, and mine's already snappy. Plus, Ryzen laptops, when compared to Intel laptops that also lack dedicated graphics, are typically much better at gaming. The laptop's got a great screen, though it does get smudged easily by fingerprints. The speakers aren't great, but they're loud, and the port selection has never been an issue for me. If you have any questions, please ask.
0 points • kwil449
This is the one I use. It runs on high graphics with no issues I notice. I think it's a very good value for its performance and the light 2-in1 form. After using it for a year, I'd say one of the only corners they cut for this price is in the shell material. From regularly picking it up with one hand by the corner, I ended up with a bit of a crack on the side from the weight of the rest of it.

Hey, I would suggest Lenovo Flex 14 81SS0005US. This laptop is a low budget 2 in 1 laptop ideal for students to take from class to class to take notes and perform light productivity tasks. It has a decent build quality for its price and its specs are good enough for multitasking and having lots of tabs open. The Vega 8 GPU that this laptop carries is one of the best iGPU which is great for light gaming. It also has: 14" FHD, 2.1 GHz AMD R Series, Vega 8, 12 GB RAM, 3.52 lbs, 256 GB SSD
OR
The Acer Aspire 5. This is a great value for money laptop that can do a little of everything. It can easily be upgraded if you want to add more RAM or more storage space. Its 10th gen processor is both powerful and energy-efficient so it won't drain the laptop's impressive battery life. Additionally, it has a GPU that is able to game as well. Build wise it is solid and should be able to last a few years as long as you don’t spill anything on it. It also has: 15.6" FHD IPS, i5-10210U, GeForce MX250, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD

If $560 is within your budget then you can buy the following Lenovo Flex 14 2-in-1 laptop that your mom can actually write on because the screen has an integrated active digitizer and it comes with a digital pen.

Microsoft's OneNote is a free program that also supports digital pens.
Most bloatware can be uninstalled. I say most because some of the Windows built in programs are considered bloatware by some people because they are programs they will never use. Examples for me would be Microsoft Edge, Maps, and People.
