I'm looking at this as well, but I'm stuck between it and the LG 34GP83A-B. Here are the key differences
(Dell vs LG)
- 120Hz vs 160Hz
- Full GSYNC Module vs "GSYNC Compatible"
- 2ms IPS vs 1ms IPS
- No HDR vs HDR400
- Arguably people say HDR400 isn't that great, but still something
- 8-bit vs 10-bit
The last difference is the warranty between Dell and LG
- Dell has 3 years advance exchange service (they replace it first, you send the defective one later) with free shipping
- LG has 1 year warranty where you pay to ship one way and from what I've read also have a subpar customer service team.
The main thing for me though is I'm coming from an Acer Predator XB271HU that has a GSYNC module and is 165Hz, so I'm wondering if going down to 120 would be noticeably slower on the Alienware.
So on paper the LG is technically the better panel but their warranty is subpar and I'm not sure if the GSYNC module really matters compared to "GSYNC Compatible"

You got it!
Also, for that specific model, there is a this one:

It's $150 cheaper for apparently the exact same thing as the LG 34GN850. You can find a few comparison videos online and they all come to the conclusion it's the same thing minus a few accessories that comes with the GN850 option. But same panel, performance, etc. Might be worth saving the $150.

I like a big screen. But the one I really want will have to wait unfortunately. As it’s like $700-$800. no problem, I got the LG 34GP83A-B.

No you will get no benefit to Gsync on the Predator with AMD. Nvidia only. As an alternative, you might want to consider This monitor that was literally just released and turns out to be practically the same as the 34GN850-B which regularly sells for $200 more. It’s $100 more than the Predator, but is a generation newer technology-wise, has AMD Freesync Premium, and is Gsync compatible.

Considering that Amazon is selling the 34GP83A-B for $800 right now, I would go with that. I had a 34GK950F and I loved it. https://www.amazon.com/LG-38GL950G-B-Ultragear-Monitor-Refresh/dp/B08DWD38VX

Return that/cancel the order and get this instead for roughly the same price
The 34GK950F is the Q1 2019 model with an older LG IPS panel. This new one just released in 2020 with their updated nano IPS panel which boasts a much faster response time, among other things.

Interesting... I wonder what the $200 difference is for on amazon.com
Did they note anything else?
Also, no updates on my monitor yet. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow, but amazon didn't even start shipping yet.

Instead of the LG 34GN850-B for $950 check out the LG 34GP83A-B for $850-800 they're effectively identical in every way. The GP83A has marginally higher brightness and supports DP1.4 as well, being a newer model.

I bought the Alienware on sale for $800. Should I return it and get the LG instead? I was originally gonna get a 3080 but now that the 3080ti is all but confirmed for next month, I’d rather wait for that.

This monitor has now been superceded by two monitors. The newest version of which is only $50 more expensive. https://www.amazon.com/LG-34GP83A-B-Inch-Ultragear-Compatibility/dp/B08DWD38VX/ref=sr_1_1?crid=23AP4MWSD00Y5&dchild=1&keywords=lg+34gp83a-b&qid=1602511334&sprefix=LG+34G%2Caps%2C175&sr=8-1
There aren't professional reviews out on it yet, but even if we assume it's no better than the 34GN850-B I'd say it's probably worth the extra $50 to those spending $800 on monitors. https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/lg-34gk950f-vs-lg-34gn850-b/894/13261?usage=9091&threshold=0.1

Not sure where you're located, but this monitor just came out with the same specs as the 34gn850 for cheaper. https://www.amazon.com/LG-34GP83A-B-Inch-Ultragear-Compatibility/dp/B08DWD38VX/ref=sr_1_2?crid=YBXNZG0SU858&dchild=1&keywords=34gp83a-b&qid=1602618973&sprefix=34gp%2Caps%2C166&sr=8-2

EDIT: Other one got removed because of ref links in the other reply.
So I'm looking at the 3 of these LG monitors and they all look pretty similar. Not sure why their is a price difference...
They all seem to have the following:
- HDR400
- 3440x1440
- DP 1.4
