[Monitor] LG34GK950F-B - 34" Curved QHD UW IPS 144hz - $899 (ships from amazon)
2 points • RosesAreRed11
Maybe not 100% applicable but I just made the switch from 3x horizontal monitors. The outsides were 24in I think both 1080p and middle was 27in 1080p 144hz. I call new setup tie fighter. Center is the lg 34” ultra wide (https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B0798Q8KG4/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=lg%2Bultrawide%2B2k%2B144hz&qid=1600036172&sr=8-4&th=1) and then I flipped the previous two monitors vertical for portrait mode to sit on either side of the UW.
I wish I would’ve made this change years ago! The ultra wide is amazing for flight sim, plus I’ve also enjoyed my other games on it so far (Ffxiv, factorio...). And productivity on it is sooo good - excel, PowerPoint, etc. would 100%recommend ultra wide

Curved one is the reason they are all down there because that is the new monitor I upgraded to. LG 34GK950F-B https://www.amazon.com/LG-34GK950F-B-34-21-Ultragear/dp/B0798Q8KG4/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8
Really nice so far

Most are VA. There are a couple IPS. I don’t know of any TN. If there are any 1080P very high refresh rate ones, I’d suspect TN.
LG 34GK950F-B 34" 21:9 Ultragear WQHD Nano IPS Curved Gaming Monitor with Radeon FreeSync 2 (2018), Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0798Q8KG4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mn0kEb439KW22
Heres a decent IPS. It’s 34” instead of 35”. Personally prefer 35”. It supports HDR and will allow games to enable it, just don’t expect anything mind blowing from the implementation. Keep the strobing backlight off if you can’t get 144hz solid FPS, the motion blur reduction also disabled variable refresh rate.
While it is 144hz, and supports gsync compatible options, I highly recommend dropping the display to 120hz because the pixel response isn’t fast enough for 144hz without blurring. It’s clearer at 120hz. Keep it in the faster overdrive setting, minimal overshoot. 7-13ms Pixel response. Make sure you have the latest firmware because the screen had very bad input latency issues that were significantly fixed with a later update.
I wouldn’t buy the gsync version. Thanks to nvidia supporting FreeSync implementations they have completely opened up many cheaper displays that are just as good if not better than gsync counterparts.
As for OLED. The PC market is likely not going to adopt it. The fear of screen burn in is an important conversation. Personally, my desktop hides all shortcuts, has animated desktop backgrounds that cycle every 10 minutes, a hidden taskbar with additional modifications to better remove any static long term images on the display. Not difficult things to do, but it’s a display type that requires care and ‘maintenance’ as precautionary measures against image retention. OLED is organic, so 1 year from now, the display colors will 100% be different. Being able to calibrate is important, especially in a professional environment, which IPS 60hz is good enough. The PC market likely will wait for Micro LED. Also self emissive no backlights, basically an inorganic version of OLED so no burn in and other concerns. $$$$$$ though.

It couldn’t hurt unless you want to find an excuse to spend more money elsewhere while saving money on the cooler! You could look up tests on temps while rendering 4K-8k footage for hours on YouTube
Love the monitor and should get the job done! I have a similar monitor, I think mines just the newer version?
Here’s mine LG 34GK950F-B 34" 21:9 Ultragear WQHD Nano IPS Curved Gaming Monitor with Radeon FreeSync 2 (2018), Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0798Q8KG4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8a4hEbZ9DXPHY
I use mine for gaming and editing, but it’s absolute shit for editing because of that Nano IPS... way too bright, colors don’t match... so I always default to my 27” IPS LG for true color.

I have another 27” 1440p IPS calibrated with an eye1 calibrator and the Lg looks just as good out of the box.

I just ordered this. It will be here next week and I'm hoping it lives up to expectation. Your GPU will be compatible with free sync so that shouldn't be a problem.

Mines just 1440p. This is the one I have https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0798Q8KG4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_EeLGFb7FSH6BZ But I definitely think the monitor. Adds way more immersion and you already have a yoke, even if it’s not the honeycomb, it works. I think I have the same mousepad too. Mines just not plugged in

No, that one is only 60hz, I meant this

Thanks! If you're curious, it's this LG curved 1440p 21:9 IPS panel. Pricey, although I'm financing it for $750, and 100% worth it.

I use the LG 34GK950G-B at work but I have had it for a while and it’s good but if I could I would swap it with this, it’s easily the best. https://www.amazon.com/LG-34GK950F-B-34-21-Ultragear/dp/B0798Q8KG4
Refresh rate really is amazing and worth it, also the most future proof thing you can do for a monitor is get high refresh rate.
1 points • Pun_In_Ten_Did
You can definitely run the monitor with an AMD GPU... however you are correct, you will not get the benefit of having FreeSync. The whole purpose of an adaptive synchronization technology (FreeSync, Gsync) is to adapt the display refresh rate to variable rates -- reducing tearing / out of sync pictures.
It'd be like... buying a plane that you can never fly. Sure, it'll look good sitting in the hanger but are you really getting the most out of your purchase?
Have you looked at LG's 34GK950F-B? I have no practical experience with it but it has been widely praised in this forum.

Well the C9 got G-sync compatibility via a firmware update so that is a great for gaming. Apart from this ultrawide's are horrible for movie watching due to most content not available in 2. If your priority is gaming (especially fps games) then the PG35VQ is the best choice but if you want immersion for gaming and movies then go for the C9 provided you understand the small but still notable risk with OLED burn-in. Honestly I would get the LG B9(2019 model) instead and game from the couch as well as a HDR 144 Hz display for gaming like this one . If you are in the US I think Best Buy offers a warrant against burn-in. You get the best of both world's with hardly any compromises.

I recommend you look at some in person at a store if possible. Beware using monitor review sites for anything more than QC/reliability info unless you are fine with what someone else likes. Use your own eyes to find one you like is my recommendation.
With that said I would recommend this if you are willing to buy sight unseen: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34GK950F-B-34-21-Ultragear/dp/B0798Q8KG4/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=LG+38GL950G&qid=1605546300&sr=8-5

You’re right the 34GK950F is a better monitor, but it’s also $100 more. I’d say if possible get the 34GK950F.

Not sure if this is where to post this, but hopefully someone can help me out.
I kind of have three questions in this one topic, so here goes:
I'm looking to buy a new monitor (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0798Q8KG4), and it's 3440x1440, 144hz, and it supports Freesync 2. I want to dock my laptop to it and be able to use it with the Freesync, 144hz refresh rate, and 1440p resolution. However, most docking stations that I've looked at only support 60hz and no frame sync. I thought that maybe I could use display port, but my laptop doesn't have a displayport port. I do have an HDMI port, and I'm not sure if using a HDMI to Display port cable would work? Anyway, please let me know what I can do to make this work out. Whether it be a cable, or a docking station that would work with my purposes.
My next question is if my laptop can run the monitor that I linked above. My current laptop has a GTX 1060, 16 GB of RAM, and an i7 6 core CPU. Is that hardware enough to run Minecraft, Overwatch, and R6 Siege on this monitor at medium settings? I plan to upgrade my laptop in a little while, but I just want to make sure that my current laptop can also run these games on this monitor.
And finally, should I be going with a curved ultrawide monitor for my purposes? I'm planning on doing gaming, video editing, media consumption, and productivity. I've heard people say that all of those things are great on a large monitor, but as far as gaming goes, I've heard some people say that they much prefer 24-27" monitors for gaming. The ultrawide looks great to me, but I've never used a monitor that's over 27" so I'm not sure. Please let me know.
Thanks!

EDIT: Other one got removed because of ref links in the other reply.
So I'm looking at the 3 of these LG monitors and they all look pretty similar. Not sure why their is a price difference...
They all seem to have the following:
- HDR400
- 3440x1440
- DP 1.4

I am not aware of any 4k 144hz monitors in the 34" size. The closest 4k monitor to that level of performance is the Acer Predator. . It's IPS, 4k, 144hz and at 27".
The closest ultrawide to that performance out on the market currently is probably the LG 34gk950f-b but it's hard to find in stock lately. It's 34", 144hz, IPS, and with freesync. If you want to go SUPER ultrawide, the Samsung CRG9 is 49" @ 1440p, 144hz, and with freesync 2. That's a popular one because of the size. You might also want to check /r/ultrawidemasterrace for recommendations.

I'm in the market for a 34" UW and there are a couple I'm looking at that seem to be slightly discounted for Prime day.
Hope someone can weigh in on whether the Gsync module is worth the extra $250ish?
3 points • gh0stwriter88
No it is a marketing dilution attempt by Nvidia and clearly it is working since you are confused.
Many previously FreeSync monitors are now advertised as G-Sync compatible when they have nothing to do with the original G-Sync... if you see such a monitor look up it's part number and see if it acutally supports freesync. AMD is also enhancing the next genreation Fresync branding to combat this. So FreeSync Premium will support all the bells and whistles like HDR etc...
https://www.amd.com/en/products/freesync-monitors
Edit: using thie above link I found this which is 34in 2k, has LFC and HDR... 144hz.
https://www.amazon.com/LG-34GL750-B-inch-Ultragear-Compatible/dp/B07R5R9VR9
And a higher end model

This fits your exact specifications https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0798Q8KG4 except Freesync 2 instead of G-sync. There is a G-sync version too, but the refresh rate isn't quite as high https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JVGLJ6R
