Need Help With 4K Monitor

I just got an LG 27UK850 and connected it to my XboxOne and the free sync and Hdr are working but I can't get it to display in 4K. Any advice? This is the monitor https://www.amazon.com/LG-27UK850-W-Monitor-Connectivity-FreeSync/dp/B078GVTD9N?th=1 . I have tried 3 different cables.

I was also thinking of getting the new MBP Pro and need a monitor with USB-C.

I was looking at this: LG 27UK850-W 27” 4K UHD IPS Monitor with HDR10 with USB Type-C Connectivity and FreeSync

It’s 60 Hz but it’s 4K.

Do remember that freesync monitors are now supported by Nvidia.

Sadly there aren't a ton of 4k gaming monitors at 32 inch (I used to be part of that world before I got 3 27s) With 60hz being okay you won't need to spend nearly that much. I've always bought from Acer and LG, but if you're looking for something curved Samsung is your best friend.

It's really weird how this happens to some people and not others. I was on a quest for a decent LG27UK850 a while back, and had to go through like 6 panels before I got something acceptable. Problems ran the gamut... Different levels of light bleed, one had a green to magenta color shift across the screen, dead pixels, etc... I finally got one that I thought looked good enough 5 returns later. No comment on my account.

Love it. Good looking. The built-in (not great, but usable) speakers and USB A ports on it means I plug one USB C cable into my Mac and I'm good to go. (My webcam is plugged into the monitor, so my computer switches to that when I plug the monitor in.)

This is currently the #1 4k monitor on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078GVTD9N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_9yIiFb2PTRYD7

But it's 27". To find a 24" monitor in 4k would cost considerably and not be as good, most likely cutting out HDR support.

The problem persists up to the UK series. The latest UL series have the green dots, yellow corners and vertical/horizontal line issues. LG monitors look so damn good when they work. Customer support is sadly lacking though. It's a lottery when it comes to LG's 4k panels.

Just got this one and my ranking shot up right after. It's not about response time, it's about INPUT LAG. Rtings.com has all the info, and I didn't really see anything below 8ms in terms of Input Lag @ 60 hz, and that's what the LG monitor I just got has. And, of course, make sure you change the monitor settings to game mode as well.

r/AMDLaptops • comment

Doesn't this laptop have USB-C that sends Display Port through it? I'd personally go for a monitor with a built it USB-C dock. Something like this where you plug network, headphones, mouse, and keyboard all into the monitor. When you switch from mobile to desktop mode, just plug in the one usb-c. Or lose the network port and gain Freesync for an extra $100 with this which has the Freesync @ 60 you want.

This one is 27" (amazon). I also have seen recommendations that 32" is better fit for 4K.

However, to get the same spec and quality as I have on mine LGUK850-W I need to look for something like this one (amazon) which is a quite jump in price (at least two times).

I also not sure I would appreciate 32", since I afraid that I would need to move my head a lot from corner to corner :-).

I wish I can to inside the store and just get a visual feeling, but during the pandemic the only option is to go online. Don't want to deal with returns as much as well.

Boy do I appreciate you going down that rabbit hole and saving me the trouble. I salute you, good sir/madam.

As of now I was just looking into the various hub/port setups that are compatible and everything basically points to impaired performance if I want to hook up a KVM switch.

My alternative solution is looking for a monitor such as this one: Lenovo L27M-28 27-Inch FHD LED Backlit LCD USB Type-C Monitor, FreeSync, Wide Angle, Narrow Bezel, 75Hz, 4ms, Vesa Mount Capable, 65E6KAC1US https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QDPG7TG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XJd9Eb31KZ6P1

This seems feasible: LG 27UK850-W 27" 4K UHD IPS Monitor with HDR10 with USB Type-C Connectivity and FreeSync, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078GVTD9N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-Sd9EbPWY0XGZ

I’m thinking that I can run DisplayPort to my PC and run USB-C to my MacBook Pro. I may just have to use an extra dongle for my wireless peripherals - meaning I’ll still have to switch between two sets, which is fine for now I suppose. I’ll just run the cables through a sleeve and give the illusion of one “single cable.” :,(

If this solution works for one monitor, the next test will be two monitors. I’ll have to run another set of DisplayPort and usb-C cables, but at least then I can switch between both devices without affecting graphical performance. I know the MacBook Pro can run with two USB-C ports plugged into and run on two monitors.

As for your wireless sound options, idk what you’re running or what you’re using it for, but I find Apple airpods to have excellent input and output quality when paired to MacBooks (not sure for PC). However, I have seen wireless mic + headphone setups that work rather well so I highly recommend that for out of box convenience.

Thank you again for your time and knowledge, kind stranger. Once I find and test the right monitors, I’ll be sure to let you know the results and send a post-cleanup picture of the wires. Cables man. They suck.

I'm planning to buy my gf a 4K monitor for her to do work (lots of reading and coding) and something for me to play PS5 games in HDR and movies on the side. Regarding gaming, I'm looking for something with the best display. I don't care a ton about input lag because I will only be playing ps5 exclusives so I want the best overall cinematic gaming and movie experience. I understand that as of now TVs are the best for 4k experience and I plan on buying the next generation of LG OLED once they come out next year, but for now I just want a 4k monitor that I can also play ps5 games on. I'm looking at these two right now:

LG 32UL500-W

LG 27UK850-W

my uniformed intuition tells me that the 27" will probably have a better display given that it's more expensive and smaller, but I'd like someone more experienced to inform me. My fear is that if I get something 27" the display will be too small to make a discernable difference, though I'd like to know what the overall picture quality between these two are just to learn more. I'm also open to getting a different monitor to and $450-500 would probably be my upper limit though I'd like to stay in the sub $400 range if possible. Thanks!

TVs are better than monitor for 4k60 gaming. TVs are brighter and have much better contrast ratio (better blacks, IPS have garbage blacks). Don’t worry too much about response time because no monitor will ever actually have 1ms response time. At most tv’s will be few ms slower than a monitor.

Tcl 6 series is pretty good.

Anyways here is some monitors:

I've been doing a lot of research for the past couple of months on this same question and ended up settling for this 4k LG Monitor w/ Freesync based on this review. The price has dropped since I got it so it is a really good buy. The LG monitor is great for creativity as well and connects to my MacBook Pro w/ ease with Type C.

Now, I am still not 100% happy because I still miss using 120hz coming from my Samsung Qled. I've been thinking about getting a second monitor w/ 120hz but that is another rabbit hole on which one to get.

I saw a reply saying 120hz is useless because frames are capped. While this is true, there still are some benefits to going 120hz. Check out this video for more on that.

Hey all, I have an LG 27UK850-W monitor coming today after doing (what I thought was enough) research into what would be best for my situation. I am going to be connecting a PS4 to game on it, and eventually a PS5. I may also use it occasionally with my Macbook Pro if I need a bigger display for my desk.

From my understanding, the PS4 will only go up to 1080, so connecting it to a 2160 monitor will scale it and it won't be true 4k. Okay, it'll be better than my old Samsung monitor anyways. I also assume the PS5 will have true 4k output so it'll look great on that.

After going through some threads and more recommendations I came across the extremely popular 27GL83A-B. I don't think this is good for a PS4 because it doesn't output to 1440, and even if the PS5 does, I'd be stuck with a weird scaling for months.

However, I found the 27GN750-B on the same listing. A similar monitor, 240hz if I ever were to need it (or if PS5 upped FPS to 120 on any games), and significantly cheaper than the one I have arriving today (the LG 27UK850-W)

Would it be better to get the 27GN750-B? I don't really mind the price difference, but if it makes sense, I am fine returning the 850 for the 750. Not a big gamer or PC builder so I would appreciate any input.

Thanks! I am also open to other monitor suggestions for my use case.

4K isn't really worth it for gaming but you will want it for photo editing. You will also want a 10 bit VA/IPS(VA for budget, IPS for better colors) but if you get the VA panel, you can still calibrate it. And on top of that, 144hz will be very expensive so I recommend you get an IPS panel for photo editing and other non-gaming work and a 144hz 1440p 27" VA panel for gaming. You don't really have a choice here if you are going to use two monitors that are the same model. I recommend going with 2 separate monitors in your case. If you still want to go with the same model then you will have to pour in some more money.

I recommend:

I've been looking at USB-C options for my MBP 16". A good consensus choice seems to be the LG27UK850-W for $450. I'd prefer higher power (85-100w), and this doesn't have speakers. You might be better off with bluetooth speakers anyway. I haven't found an LG that can be adjusted via the Mac's volume and brightness keys.

Oh nice, a recent post. I'm looking into buying this monitor as well. I believe it's 60W, btw. If you wanna branch from Lenovo, here are some good decently priced 4k 27" USB-C monitors I've found in the last day.

HP Envy 27

HP Elitedisplay S270n 27"

LG 27UK850-W 27"

LG 27BK67U-B - 27"

What's pulling you towards this monitor specifically if I may ask? Personally, I have a 2k Lenovo that's been great and looks very similar to the TP-whatever.

I am in a similar situation with a late 2009 iMac. I was able to update it to the newer operating systems using the information in this link:

Upadte iMAc OS

You can also update to Catalina on DosDude's website, he also has a good YouTube video showing the process. I had some issues with Mohave not running earlier editions of Word and Excel and a few other applications.

I'm going with a similar setup with a lower wattage Pico 150XT power supply and adapter as the power draw should be around 80W and perhaps reach 110W occasionally and I'm also using a Lone Industries L5 case.

The rest of my build will consist of:

AMD Ryzen 4700G

MSI B550I

Noctua-NH-L9A-AM

2x Noctua NF-A8 PWM

Ballistix Sport LT 32GB (**3200**) DDR4

(2) WD BLACK SN750 NVMe M.2 2280 1TB

PicoPSU-150-XT + 150W Adapter Power Kit
As far as monitors I am leaning towards this LG:

LG UK850 27"

I just picked up items as they go on sale and am still waiting for the MOB and APU. I do believe you might want to delay until the next series come out.

I also believe the cost and quality of components will beat out a NUC.

This is another great option the A300 Mini and it will likely be updated soon when the new APUs come out.
