What you have there is split headphone/mic audio connectors. To use them in a combo headphone/mic jack like the Xbox one controller has you'll need something to combine those cables like this The green plug goes into the headphone jack and the red one goes in the mic jack.

Your mac audio jack is a combo port, which means the mic and headphone jack is combined into one. You could buy something like this so your headphones work, or you can buy a gaming dac, which would let you connect your headphones to your mac via USB

Astro Mixamp with Audio-Technica ATH-AD700

Hi all looking for some help on setup for PC. I absolutely love the Mixamp Pro TR that came with my A40s. Being able to adjust volume from game/voice and master control on the fly is amazing.

However, I prefer my Audio-Technica ATH-AD700. I want to use both on PC, but I'm having issues.

Setup:

Headset - Audio-Technica ATH-AD700

Mic - Zalman Zm-Mic1

Adapter - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01I3A47I4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Mixamp to PC via USB. From Mixamp 3.5 mm audio jack TO y-splitter TO headset/mic

I can get sound, but for some reason the Mixamp won't pickup the mic. Mic test directly to PC works. Any reason this setup would fail?

I believe this is incorrect. You can use an independent mic and headset with an Xbox One controller. It's been a little while since I last used the setup (probably about a year or more), so I cannot guarantee its functionality with any updates that may have happened in between, but I used to play with Audio-Technica headphones and a cheap lavaliere mic plugged into a single 3.5mm audio/mic splitter plugged into the controller (something like this, though it's not the exact product I use) and it worked perfectly fine. That's definitely not to say it'll work with every headset/mic out there, but I see no reason why it wouldn't be able to work with most standard 3.5mm based gear. To answer the original question as well, the 3.5mm jack in the controller should work perfectly fine with the splitter, no headset adapter required.

2 things could be wrong. Incorrect tip ring sleeve connections, or the length of the plug is too short.

I bought some TRS 3.5 mm plugs a while back that where about 1/2 mm too short for my phone. Compare the length of the plug to the plug on some headphones that work with your phone.

Also the phone is setup to use a TRRS (tip ring ring sleeve) connection. The contacts in the phone might not be lining up right.

You might be able use a TRRS male to two TRS female adapter like this and get it working.

Is the connection on the end of your headphones a singular aux connection? As opposed to two separate plugs, one green for audio output and one pink for mic output. If it's just a singular aux connection, then you have to buy a headphone splitter like this one from amazon

First off, have you tried it?

Secondly, it will have to be a specific splitter due to the design of 3.5mm jacks and the difference between a headphone and microphone plug. And the port on your computer does both headphone/microphone. usually it'll have an icon near the port showing this.

You'll see the splitter has 3 rings around the metal tip to allow for 2 headphones and the microphone where a normal headphone splitter only has 2 rings for the 2 headphones.

You don’t need a mixamp. They are overpriced for what it does, and won’t improve your sound.

Atmos is good. I don’t own it, but people do say that it it pretty decent. Id maybe do some research first to decide if it’s worth it to you or not.

But I assume the tablet wire is one that has 2 female inputs (for headphone and mic) to 1 male (which is probably a 4 pole wire). That’s probably what your problem was. If that one ever breaks on you, this is one I personally use. But there are a bunch out there so you shouldn’t have a problem finding one if yours breaks

Why not take the replacement part for a discount? I guess you're looking for a headset splitter, that combines the two 3.5mm TRS plugs for headphones and microphone into a single 3.5mm TRRS plug, like this for example?

That detachable USB portion is most likely the dac that connects via 3.5mm from the headset, to that DAC->USB module there.

You can bypass the entire module altogether and use it as a standard 3.5mm headset, but lose USB and Microphone functionality.

Or you can bulk up and get:

  • a portable/desktop amp (depending on what you are using it for)

  • route that to a 3.5mm combo audio adapter, to retain microphone use via 3.5mm, assuming yours has TRRS (3 ring) connection to split. Like this one

Since its a cheap headset... I don't really recommend doing much more than fiddling with some gain settings, but you also risk blowing the driver and hurting your ears.

The 3.5mm jack on the bottom of the controller uses the "three ring" setup, where the connection is divided into two parts for stereo L/R output, and one for microphone audio input. Most headsets with integrated microphone will be compatible because they use the same set-up. A standalone microphone that uses 3.5mm may not connect properly - to ensure it works without any issues you would need a y adapter that splits out the microphone only connection like this one.

You'll need to use an adapter cable if you want to use your headset.

If you are willing to go wired you can get a 3.5mm jack headset.

They require no drivers unlike USB. If you get a headset with seperate 3.5mm for mic and sound and you don't have a desktop you will need one of these trs to trrs adapters.

They do make adapter cables for what you’re trying to do: https://www.amazon.com/Kingtop-Adapter-Tablet-Headsets-Version/dp/B01I3A47I4/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=audio+y+adapter+mic&qid=1608863486&sr=8-4

That being said, a much better option is to use the USB connection to pass midi to a software piano and record that. Do you happen to have a mac or an iphone/ipad? If so garageband is pretty fantastic and free.

Just a heads up on your Macbook headphone jack for future reference. Many laptops use TRRS for the headphone jack because it includes mic input as well, you can't just plugs a normal pair of headphones in. You need a splitter like this: https://www.amazon.com/Kingtop-Adapter-Tablet-Headsets-Version/dp/B01I3A47I4/

Actually, you could probably get an adapter that would help. Such as, one that allows you to strip the microphone input off from the headphones and then use a separate mic. Alternately, there’s adapters that would cause your headphones to register only as headphones and use the internal mic.

Edit: Something like this might work if you have an external mic you want to use instead: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I3A47I4

You can get any one of the Antlion Modmics and still plug it into the controller if you wanted to save a bit and get a wired one. You can get an audio splitter similar to this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I3A47I4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_sLOIEb7YGD6C5) which I had used to plug the mic and headphones into my Xbox controller and it worked well.

earphone to mic adapter

This what I’m talking about would this be able to work the quest since you plug into the earphone jack then on the other-side have mic and extra earphones.

Maybe this gives some clarity and if you done it before did it work, if not I may try it. Leave them in the comments below

What phone? You need a TRRS adapter like this one but I'd Google for your specific phone to be sure.

Android isn't the best for working with audio but there are recorder apps out there (do a quick Google). Does your Chromebook have a mic input? (Google the model to find the manual for it)

If your headset has two jacks there are adapters you can get on Amazon to convert to this connection. TRRS to TRS is what you are looking for.

Yes you can go directly to your phone if you have a smartphone that still uses a 3.5mm jack and it accepts TRRS plugs!

I use this cable and it works great with my phone galaxy S9. It tricks the phone into thinking you have earphones with an inline mic, when really you just are sending line signal into it.

This mic, and mac input is fine for speech and lo-fi music demos. A sm57 mic and an interface will greatly improve your demo sound. Your internal mac mic should also be fine for music demos.

Your mic should work with an interface. You will need a 1/8 to 1/4 jack mono adapter. Don’t use an xlr adapter for this. You don’t need phantom power, since it has a battery. The mic is stereo and and this will omit 1 channel. This is fine just set your daw for dual mono.

Your mic has pad switches, i.e. volume reduction presets to keep from overloading a preamp, in the battery box. Do try the switch variations In all configurations, as it shouldn’t hurt anything. Use your ears, if it’s not distorted set to the loudest switch. Your guitar pedal may have heard a low signal. Then the with the gain up to compensate, you got noise. Changing the pad may let you turn the gain down to where it’s not noisy. Or it just isn’t compatible.

For Mac, use an adapter like this. Plug some iPhone headphones in and see if mic shows up in mac prefs. If not, then your mac doesn’t support a mic. If you plug your mic into the mic jack on the adapter, then connect to your mac, with no signal, “microphone” should appear in your mac preferences. You don’t have to plug in headphones. You do not have a mac software problem. Plugging the mic in without an adapter connects to the headphone out, which cannot work.

Apparently the TRRS/4 pole 3.5mm connector works fine with headphones with only 3 pole connector. But I don't know if a microphone works corretly or is identified correctly. You could just try it?

If it doesn't work, you can just get a adapter that separates the 4 pole connector to separate 3 pole headphone and microphone connectors.

Option 3, they could be using a mixer, and outputting the audio to PC digitally, while also outputting to an integrator cable. Option 3 is far less likely though, unless you REALLY need to split the signal like that though.

it does. I've got one of the adapters so I can plug my guitar in and record it. It shows up as external microphone once you have it plugged in.

Edit: here's one that might be more appropriate. It splits the jack into separate headphone and mic. Just plug your mic into the one labeled as the mic input.

i don't think that will work. There used to be an option to use it as an input but they dropped it in one of the updates. I'm on catalina and I don't see the switch. It's in system preferences, sound, inputs. Though, you might be able to use it through a splitter, something like this. Though, can't guarantee that it'll be 100% clean. I reckon it'll have some sort of noise to it.

Your best bet might be to get an AI then connect the output of your pedal to the input of the AI.

I use my senn hd600 headphones and a modmic with Dolby Atmos for COD MW. I can hear in every corner and direction, even behind me. Beats sitting in front of my tv everytime.

I think the antlion modmic is really sensitive, like it picks up your breathe, but you would have to try it out for yourself. It does have an inline switch you can mute toggle. I only toggle it on when I speak, but as you know, you can also just raise the mic level threshold inside CoD. It also does add a bit of weight. You also have to attach a magnet to the outside of your ear cup, which makes the actual mic detachable from your headphones, which can be something to consider.

Don't forget to buy a Y splitter to connect the headphones and modmic to the controller at the same time.

I got this one, but any should work that look the same: https://www.amazon.com/Kingtop-Adapter-Tablet-Headsets-Version/dp/B01I3A47I4/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=audio+y+splitter&qid=1607073827&sr=8-11

You mean the adapter? When you break out the headset port it becomes two separate ports, a headphone port and a mic/line input port (something like this. You'd connect headphones to the TRSF port (it'd likely be labelled with an image of headphones) and the synth to the TSF port (likely labelled with an image of a mic). However you are recording, you'd tell it to monitor through the headphones.

I have a Logitech G230 headset with a Kingtop Y Splitter. I noticed that my XBOX One controller has a port that fits a headphone jack, and another port that I can't ID next to it. Would it be possible to just use voice chat with the headphone jack, or do I need to buy the Headphone adapter kit for me to be able to use my mic and headset via controller?

Side question does XBOX One support USB Headsets? I do have an adapter that changes 3.5 Headphone jacks that have split mic and audio into USB.

Thanks
